I'm using a nexSan storage array to do D2D backups. It's one of the smaller models (only One Terrabyte)
There's another company that makes these too. They use ATA/RAID and are very cheap.
The NexSan 1TB cost approx $7000 6 months ago.
win4lin vs. Vmware? I've tried vmware and had to dump it cause it was too slow. Not only that, but it was freakin expensive!! Is win4lin faster? Never really messed with wine much either just cause it's such a pain to setup correctly. (either that or none of the progs I wanted to run were supported).
Quit using OSS and keep paying up the ass for Photoshop. Never wanted you to use it anyway, and DEFINATELY didn't wanna see you bitching about it on slashdot. In the time it took to write your piss-poor 'article', you prolly coulda learnt the GIMp GUI, AND downloaded new fonts.
yeah, thats fine, but what about the people who 'paid' for it with their free-time. RedHat got away with 'selling' free shit for a while. Now they are flipping the bird to the peeps who made them so great. The community is where it's at, not the freaking software, people!!! Dammit, doesn't anyone understand that? I hardly think that RedHat tech support can replace the community forums and google searches for 'RedHat apache errors'. Instead, they will force us to choose a different home and community. Free software doesn't exactly support itself now does it?
Did you take into account the number of people who are *not* using RedHat (free versions 7-9) for a workstation? My primary use of Redhat (again, the free versions) was to install it as a *reliable* server platform for a multitude of different tasks required by my clients (not including Enterprise Apps, which I also install, which require using Enterprise Linux). I require, at the least, mediocre stability!!! Not bleeding edge X11 drivers for my laptop!!! Not kernels that require security upgrades every 3 weeks!!!
Have you considered the effects this will have on your market share? Have you considered that this might cause people to think twice about leaving Microsoft? Your distros are too expensive! They provide no added value for my existing customers running Apache and Zope! You should have waited longer to spring this bag of tricks...
You had a good thing going, the train was rolling, people were converting their entire operations to linux because it was *low cost, *reliable, *stable, *not a security/update nightmare. They were *not* doing this using Enterprise Linux. They were doing it using *****FREE***** linux operating systems. Now, I am forced to change my distro of choice for all of my clients that are currently using Redhat. They will not buy RedHat Enterprise! I support them, and you would not be able to provide for their needs with your 'technical support' while at the same time charging them a minimum of $350/year (per server).
Are you not in the least bit worried by what will happen when everyone in this niche moves to Debian? Or Mandrake? You are alienating a major share of linux sysadmins who have been extremely loyal. I've even gone on to promote you to the enterprise, and am responsible for those sales as well.
We made you, you slapped us in the face. We will move on, hurt, disgruntled, and considering using BSD instead. Thanks a freakin lot, you big jerks. This post would not have been so long, if i didn't care so much.
if you tell them, they will lash out at you in ways you can't imagine. They will fuck you over. You are better off staying quiet, and laughing at their incompetance.
haha, forgot the client was web browser:) nice.
To answer your question: mobile users, that's why. There's an increasing amount of them, and I happen to be one. I have to drag my laptop to work everyday, and then drag it back home at night. While I'm at work, I get to take advantage of a very fast connection, at home I only have a cable modem uplink. In either case, my laptop is hardly on 24x7 even though it is a killer multimedia machine (P4-mobile 1.8ghz, with 512MB ram, 60gig HD, and g-force4 mobile gfx).
Does freenet support resuming downloads? Downloading from multiple sources? Node address caching for quick-re-connect? These are all features that I need, and last I checked, freenet doesn't got 'em. HTTP for downloads? what a bunch of crapola.
~
yes, privacy is *very* good. Don't get me wrong. It just seems like this type of network is only for people who can run the client 24x7 (the more you run it the faster it goes). There must be some way to speed up the connection process so that mobile users can have quicker access to freenet content. It would be nice if mobile users could have a "buddy node" that would always be 24x7 that they could connect to in order to get online with more nodes faster. Perhaps 2 types of clients are needed?
ahhh, nevermind. this project is slated for the far-reaching future when no one can do anything anymore. Maybe then, everyone will run their nodes 24x7 "for the cause". For now, I'll just stick with bit-torrent.

I don't care about some damn obscure e-book formats. I want to pay and download an e-book from Amazon, and be able to read it. As for the palm emulation thing, I don't think I have to tell you that reading a book in an palm emulator that runs at 160x160 is like playing an EGA game in the year 2020. Not fun!
Zaurus reps need to get off their ass and secure an e-book reader contract. At least make it PDF compat.
~
Yeah, ok, having heavily researched all my PDA options I've finally given up on Zarus as not quite ready for me. The one *major* downside is lack of proper e-book support. This is a big deal for me, as I love to read e-books on my IPAQ. So far, I'm super happy with Pocket-PC 2003. Transcriber kicks ass, and the new Ipaq 2215 absolutely rules. Sorry Zaurus, get with it! And for the love of god, please get your damn wireless services website up and running. Can't I get a straight answer whether or not I can wirelessly use GSM/GPRS or Sprint?!!?
are you actually running an enterprise server? Didn't think so. Notice that enterprise software such as DB2 client/DB2 and Oracle have to run for the enterprise. RH 7.3 going away? well good luck trying any of the above on RH8 OR 9.
yes, they made a huge deal this year about the laying off of a bunch of police officers. While I for one am happy about this, it could be seen by someone who cares as a bad thing. The funny part is, almost all of those officers got re-hired at different stations!!! what a freakin scam! Fu$k the Police! Fire 'em all.
~
yes, I'm jaded, the one time I actually need the police, they fuck up. Not to mention all the revenue they've collected from me by labling me as a criminal, when I'm really not one.
Well, I'm a completely devoted linux desktop user (on my Dell Inspiron 8200). It works great! The only complaint I have is the fact that there are not a single *good* word processor available. All the one's I've tried (OpenOffice, StarOffice, abiword etc) completely and utterly blow chunks when trying to view any kind of complex business document (including tables and charts/weird formatting). This is a necessity @ work, as I have to be able to read these things, and print them nicely. I had to use VMware, install Windows 2000 and Microsoft Word just for this purpose. Everything else works great in linux.

I agree, all this FUD almost f*ck$d up the purchase of Linux @ my company (a big corporation). These claims very easily could have caused us to go with an alternative like Solaris instead of RedHat Adv. Server. As it is now, I'm gonna try like hell to get Linux back into the scheme. Yes, exactly what I was thinking. Also, what would be nice is to have the ability to chat with the other users that are recieving the broadcast. (This would be nice feature for bit torrent too). Somthing like SILC for a back-end, transfer the channel key as the first part of the torrent, and you have complete and total security for your channel.
