    Meanwhile in Brazil, Aedes aegypti reproduces exponentially,
    spreading Dengue (hemorragic fever), Yellow Fever (Killing 9 out of 10 infected) and Zika Virus (Inducing Birth Defect).
    Only the fittest survives. The insects will outlive brazilians at least.

    Brazilian here, have lived in Rio, in Boston, and now in Belo Horizonte:
    - You CAN drink tap water in Rio, that wont kill you.
    - Stray bullets or carjacking are a more likely cause of trouble.
    - No, Zika wouldnt be a concern durign winter.

    And the beach...
    I wouldnt go to Rio. You shouldnt.

    Brazilians still enjoy the availability of telegrams through ECT - Empresa de Correios e Telegrafos ECT - National and International Telegrams.
    There is a LARGE list of countries that would receive telegrams. It may be posted the old fashined way, at the post office, or by modern tools like internet or phone.
    Brazilian state controlled ECT (T stands for Telegraphs) sends and receives telegrams nationally and internationally (to and from India?).
    Some places in Brazil do not have electricity, and telegram is also considered a legal correspondence. Probably the only possible one.
    In rural areas you myst stop by the post office once every few days to collect your mail, and telegrams.

    While Brazil is smaller than Australia,more then (Australian population?) 23 million people live in rural areas without a phone line, or any mesure of decent public services (like water).
    20 billion does not come close to solving anything, our problem is much larger.

    The machine DOES print a "receipt". It is not "readable" but it can be verified if necessary - receipt and paper trail kept in the machine must match for starters.
    Simple math tells me each machine holds little over 300 votes on average - and chances of fraud detection rise as more machines are tampered with.
    So, changing the outcome fo any major elction by altering softare running on these machines doesn't seam feasible.

    In Brasil we have mandatory voting, so one MUST register and vote. This process does not force people to get informed about the
    candidates, even with the very massive TV time candidates get.
    The uninformed actually re-elect the worst kind of scum over and over, and since they are often the ones with close to
    no formal education, they are easily manipulated.
    I am sure the uninformed vote is the single most damaging factor in our democracy.

    In Brazil ethanol is made from the sugar, and the dry cane is burnt to produce
    electricity and heat.
    The dry cane provides more than enoughenergy for distillation and power generation.
    So much that ethanol producers SELL the surplus electricity/energy they generate.
    I cannot imagine corn going all that distance. Never.

    I have a CD from a Brazilian artist who produced his own CD and shipped it inside a music related magazine.
    You would find it on Mag stands and supermarket checkouts.
    The MP3's of his songs were everywhere - he made them and posted on Napster.
    He is not Elthon John, but considering how most musicians survive, he is doing all right.

    He made a lot more money than a record label would pay him. Does any artist get a clean U$1,00 from a CD?

    It costed a lot less than any CD on the nearest Bestbuy, and you got a magazine ( may be good or not )

    Your target audience goes to the supermarket, right? Some live on donuts and Burgers, i know...

    Record labels are not the only way to hit the market.

    I think USA is going for the oil. Saddam does not have the capacity to cause any big damage to USA, but the other way around.
    If USA had an alternative (alcohol), maybe there would be no war.
    USA has weapons of mass destruction, and chemical and biological weapons as well.
    USA did not sign the Kyoto agreement or any other UN resolutions towards banning such weapons. Should the world enforce USA compliance?

    USA IS willing (EAGER!!!) to use WMD's against Iraq.
    Does Iraq have the right to preemptively attack you first? (Suicidal of course)
    Do both have the same reasons to attack?
    Can oil reserves control be a good reason to attack?
    Nobody depends/relys more on oil then USA, while nobody has more oil than Iraq.
    Does it make you think?

    You could buy sugar/alcohol from your neighbors... But then your neighbor could decide not to sell to USA. Just reciprocity.

    In Brazil there are millions of cars running on Alcoohol (ethilic, yes). Don't drink and drive! Tell that to my engine!!! The early alcoohol models had serious corrosion problems, but manufacturers learned how to overcome it. They polute a lot less, you get a better power/engine volume ratio. Usually around 10% if compared with the same engine running on regular gas, but must be worse than the over 100 octane airplane gasoline.

    There is proof of vote. You get a receipt for your vote (we keep it, it is important), and a copy of it goes to a bag under the voting machine. These printed ballots are sampled for auditing purposes, mainly when the result from that voting machine deviate too much.
