  1. Integrating OO.o with KDE on KDE 3.2.0 Released · · Score: 1

Doesn't integrating KDR with OO.o really go against the Unix principal of having lots of smaller programs that do one thing very well?

I mean I've got to deal with enough "integrated programs" that crash my OS at work.

Well you know what, Sun's Java is just the Watcom C++ compiler renamed as Java, errr no wait it's really just renamed SmallTalk and Lisp spliced with a GC library, err no wait lemme take off my tin foil hat and get another transmission from Omicron Perseus V so I'll know what fact to make up next.

  10. I haven't really run into this problem on The Rise and Rise of IT Administrators · · Score: 1

So far, all of the system administrators I've had to deal with accept the fact that they aren't programmers and just concentrate on making the servers run correctly.

The few times I've had a run in with a SysAdmin, I've known FAR more than they have about the systems they are administering. It's hard for someone to argue confidently with you when you are right and can prove it.

To the poster who complained about the sysadmins, how would you like it if someone came over and told you how to write that function or that you needed to use an unchecked string buffer in that method?

Most of the people that I see having problems with SysAdmins are the ones that don't know what the hell they are doing and say things like "We need to open up port 1434/UDP on the firewall so that I can administer the SQL Server from my desk and from home." or "Just create a user with administrator priviliages on the server, we'll run the database and web app processes with that user. That way we don't have to spend a lot of time troubleshooting any permission issues"

I own 5 games for my Gamecube.

I RENT a lot of games for my gamecube.

I'm a casual gamer, working for a living and having a life tends to get in the way of my gaming habit. >:( I haven't bought a PS/2 because of the strength of the GC titles that are available. Hell, I bought Metroid Prime back in December and I'm about 20% of the way through the game. That's pretty casual.

The second reason I haven't purchased a PS/2 or an XBox is the LACK of a price drop in those two consoles. They ALMOST had me fooled when they dropped from $199 to $179, but then Sony bundled a NIC with their console and went back to charging $199 again.

I don't think the cost of the games is going to deter a casual gamer from buying a GC, a smaller library might. But if they look at spending $199 vs. $99 for something that they'll play once or twice a week I'm going to bet that the lower priced one will win out. What good is having hundreds of games if you can only play one at a time and it takes you months to finish one?
