Core2Duo here, 4Gig RAM.... Both cores are down-throttled at 800MHz, RAM used is 1GB.... I'm not using a fraction of the power I have at my disposal.... I think you're wrong. My experience tells me that a six year old computer, correctly configured is more than enough for the most things users throw at it.
It sucks.... Major balls... I have an Point Of View Atom 330 motherboard and it's barely usable for common task like surfing, email and word processing. I only tried it using Ubuntu, but I have an ION version so it should compensate for video display. Frankly.... No... It doesn't. Flash video is barely usable, Flash games like Farmville on Facebook are unusable.
I know, I know... the focus is low power, but my Asus EEE 701 4G does better with it's Celeron 900MHz. So saying that it's barely better than an Atom 330 is saying that a Lada is barely better than a Trabant.
I now installed WinXP SP3 on it.... Perhaps it's only a driver issue... Haven't had the time to play around with it.... Perhaps it will be better, perhaps not.
A AMD XP 2400+ with a bit of ram fares much better than any of these motherboards...Yes, except for power management.
We all know that.com,.org,.net domains not only are not restricted to sales to people/companies/organizations in the US, they aren't even restricted to being sold by companies in the US.
I know I might be nitpicky here, but why do you feel that.com,.org,.net (and.biz,.name,.info and a plethora others) should only be restricted to the US? So Medecin Sans Frontières has no right to a.org in your world because it's French? Heck SAP couldn't get a.com because it's German! I'm just wondering. The ones you cited are international. You might have a point regarding.us domains. I know that in my country you only get a.lu when you live there and/or have a company there. Might have changed by now...
I think that was my whole point, still you called me a Troll. (Yes, I know my nick says so... I know, I know) I'm right now installing WinXP Pro on it and will evaluate if it runs better. I doubt it... After that it will be relegated to server duty. For that's it's good enough (in a home environment)
I have an Atom 330 desktop board with that famous ION chipset. First is sucks (because it's slow - despite the NV9400M, but it also might be due to me running Linux on it), but that's not my main point. By default, the NV9400M uses 256Meg RAM. If you have 1G, you still have 786Meg free, which is still a lot for common tasks.
I rarely have seen integrated graphic solutions that worked better by giving them more RAM. Usually it means limping along even worse because the machine has less.)
Yes, actually.... I still use 512Meg machines today and it works just fine. Besides, we're talking netbooks here. I don't think anyone has the expectation of them to last more than three years. Normal laptops usually don't even last that long (due to the way they are handled, the electronics are just fine)
The 2GB ram limitation is also a problem, though...For long term use, you really want at least 4-8 GB....
WTF? One of the dumbest upgrades I ever did was to upgrade my Asus EEE PC 701 4G from 512Meg to 2Gig.... It had no sense. Debian never used more than 300Meg for common tasks.
Even on my work laptop which is a really nice machine: current usage 547Meg RAM and it's been running all day doing my work.
We're not talking about an uber-laptop for gaming, photoshop or climate simulations. We're talking abour surfing, typing a document, listening to some music and watch a movie or so....
I have one counterexample for you: there are 12MegaPixel compact cameras on the market with the same optical capacities as their 3MegaPixel predecessors. Never mind that for normal printouts (at your local Photoshop) doesn't need more than 3MegaPixel. This also creates secondary problems: I met a kindergarden teacher who couldn't understand why she couldn't burn the pics made of the kids during the year to a CD-Rom (to be given to the parents). Reason? New camera: 12MP.... She needed 3 friggin DVDs to bun that! (Per kid evidently) So, I fixed it with a small script, reducing the pics to an acceptable size.....
Now, that I'm at it: don't forget the AMD days where CPUs needed to be advertised at rated... Yes, this Athlon XP is a 2400+ (Actual clockrate 2GHz) because they couldn't keep up with the GHz-Battle and their chips looked "weak" compared to Intels offerings. (I know GHz doesn't mean anything, it's an example of higher number = better)
I wanted to buy a second wall charger for my laptop, but they were charging $75 for it.
I damaged the adapter of my Asus EEE. I really had a hard time finding somewhere to get a new one. I didn't trust anything that was on eBay. Most seem to be powersellers from China, and I've already been bitten once by those.
After searching, really, really, long I found Duracell Direct and found the prices acceptable (even though higher than the eBay ones). The adapter works fine, and if I ever need a replacement battery for laptops and/or cameras, I know where to go.
Ehm, that's exacly what I mean: an insane amount for a cellphone. My current cellphone was 35€ upfront, got credited 15€ because it came with a 15€ "call free voucher". I only pay what I call, which never exceeds 10€/month with both my cellphone and my wifes cellphone on that contract. (That's TWO cellphones, no kidding!)
Sure, I have no iPhone, but I can surf, email, send SMSes, call (Wow!) and do anything need...
You pay 562€ over two years, I pay 260€ over two year. If you don't see the difference, you need a Math 101.
I just hope they'll be selling them in Europe too.... If so, I'll be first in line. (If the price is reasonable, which the iPhone wasn't at launch time and still isn't if you look at the plans the cellphone companies offer)
Why don't just just uncheck the "Automatically check for updates to: Firefox" checkbox in the preferences? It really is that easy to stop it nagging to you.
no nude programming in your cube, nobody wants to see that
Why not? If it's that what makes you productive it's only benefit to the company... That's real Free Market.
If you're the best, you can get away with many things. Back a few years, I witnessed a (female) customer kneeling down to my supervisor and begging him to fix a bug. I turned around and said: "David, this is your chance to get a blowjob". Oh, sure she became a red like a tomato... Nothing ever happened to me. Seriously.... Falling on your knees before a coworker isn't professional either. But from the talks I heard, what really happened is that she raised some shit and she went nowhere because I was too good to be fired.
Rememeber: if you're good at what you do, you can get away with anything on the workplace.... You just need to know first you're good, that's the tricky part.
I read you and I can't keep to think: Why didn't you calculate this shit? I was room strapped in 2001 (I still am)... I bough a 1024x786 LCD screen for over 2000€ back then. My main concern was space... Just think of the power I saved over those years. To this day, that screen works and is just fine and functional.
I have a Point of view Atom 330 motherboard with 4Gig RAM (back then they claimed 4Gig supported since it's a 64-bit CPU, but nooooooo!). The graphic chip is a NVidia 9400M as I've been told (and so this is ontopic!) It has been heralded as the saviour for the dog-slow Atom Chip. Well, it is not... The thing is dog-slow running Ubuntu 9.10 with the NVidia proprietary drivers. I didn't do anything scientific, but the i386 Ubuntu version seems to run faster than the x86_64 code.
I have it now replaced with a AMD Athlon 2600+ with 1GB RAM..... Way faster. The money I put in that Atom was a pure waste, if a 6++ year old computer beats it.

You are not married, I see...
Mainly because she gives great head.

I think that was my point :-) I have a vanity .com, .net and .org.... Hosted from my ADSL line.
I know I might be nitpicky here, but why do you feel that .com, .org, .net (and .biz, .name, .info and a plethora others) should only be restricted to the US? Real users need real laptops, not netbooks that were build for surfing and email.
That's strange... I have this phenomenon while it was in standby, not when it was truly off (as in shutdown).

As an Asus EEE 701 owner (the "original" netbook), I can tell you one does not fit in the list....
I have one counterexample for you: there are 12MegaPixel compact cameras on the market with the same optical capacities as their 3MegaPixel predecessors. Never mind that for normal printouts (at your local Photoshop) doesn't need more than 3MegaPixel. (Not affiliated to them, just a happy customer)

I have been spending too much time on facebook. I looked for the "like" button. :-/
That would be way more time-intensive and way harder....
DRM in this context means Direct Rendering Manager and not Digital Rights Management
