Terrible how these big evil greedy companies are just screwing us in yet another way.

An alternative way of looking at this is that SOMEBODY needs to provide this service and I dont think mom n' pop ISP has the capacity to handle this. I don't think anyone is planning on providing the service for free as most slashdotters think it should be. Its not a 'right' if other people have to pay for it.
Also, I think the term monopoly is bandied about far to much these days: Now, eight cable companies will decide what the public will be offered Doesnt sound like a monopoly to me!

Most people would think that the terrorist attacks were in fact evil and the media is reflecting that. My girlfriend uses this stupid freemail at www.iwon.com. One day, she was unable to log into it as it said her session was expired (this is with IE). So then I install netscape and she is able to get into her mail with that. This would tell me that opera and IE have to be sharing some code somewhere.... any ideas?

I can certainly make the argument that spammers waste people's time in a BIG way, I don't know if spam can damage equipment but all the extra traffic isn't helping anything. According to you, this pretty much constitutes a violation of rights (I dont know how you came up with that one), so I think spammers need to pay the price
Even if you are an evil spammer, I don't think its ethically wrong (if you can make a legal buck, more power to you), but you can't expect the world to sit back and take it either. Becaust they (we) wont.
