What about those of us that have HD-DVD drives in our home theater? The cost of a processor that would do this in a timely fashion, is no laughing matter. Plus an HD-DVD drive, plus a Blu-Ray burner? You're kidding right. If you had all that equipment to begin with, I'm pretty sure you already knew what to do in order to convert your discs. Sheesh! You can do it with one unit. There is a combo HD-DVD/BDR drive available for PCs.

While I really believe the beam was distracting and the flash from the beam could diorient/startle a pilot, I think the article's description is mostly just a bunch of embellishments from an understandably pissed-off pilot and a prosecutor who wants to make an example out of someone.

The reason for this is that the beam must be held pretty steady at the cockpit window at a helicopter travelling pretty quickly and low off the ground. The farther away the helicopter, the harder it is to hit the cockpit. There's no targeting device here except someone's hand and eye coordination.

Most likely what happened is some idiots were shining it at the helicopter and the pilot saw some bright green flashes from when the beam momentarily hit the cockpit window.

Since the beam is visible, it was not too much of a problem determining the location of the idiots doing it.

Sony admitted themselves they were not being prejudicial on the content providers. HD-DVD was just the easiest format to initially come to - and right now, it probably still is the easiest format for the adult market to distribute.

Racism is another matter. The people going after your father hated him for a reason. If you father has more tact than you do, I would assume by your argument that race was the reason:

"those men are a threat to you simply because of the color of your skin"

Hating someone just because of the color of their skin is a way of expressing racism.

"Mexicans carry knives" is a stereotype
"Watch that Mexican, I bet he's carrying a knife" is a prejudicial statement
"Mexicans are dumber than whites" is a racist statement
