That's not nearly the same thing. By "exact same place", I don't mean "exact same area". I mean exact same place.

Here's how to get to Preferences in Mac OS:

    1. In Mac OS 9: Click about a horizontal inch from the upper-left corner of the screen, and after the menu opens, click on the bottom item in that menu.
    2. In Mac OS X: Click about a horizontal inch from the upper left corner of the screen, and after the menu opens, click about 1/2 to 3/4 an inch from the top of that menu.
On KDE, "Settings" is one of the last menus in the menu bar, and depending on the number of menus at the top of the window, it may be close to the middle of the window or near the edge. By default, since the menus are inside the window, moving a window down on the screen means menus move down with it. Depending on the current location of your window, "Options" could be located just about anywhere in relation to the edges of your screen, from the upper right corner to the lower middle to halfway up the left side.

In KDE, "Options" definitely does not always appear in the exact same place.

I agree completely. Apple's interface guidelines made it much simpler to edit an application's preferences. The edit menu always appeared in the same place on the screen (upper left). Regardless of which application you were using, you could find the preferences; you never had to even look at the menus over on the right.

In OS X, as well, you go to the exact same place to edit any application's preferences, right under the application menu in the upper left. This makes sense if you plan on using several applications or if you get any new applications. It is also much easier to handle, especially for anyone who is new to computers.

I would think if they were experiencing a shortage of units, that they wouldn't be trying to make that known by trying to sell more of them right now?

I don't know where you got your information, but I don't believe it. I've never had a problem finding a DirecTiVo for purchase, and from what I've read, DirecTV is actually getting very close to releasing a high-definition DirecTiVo unit.

While terrorism definitely should not be ignored, terrorism is not the most dangerous thing in my life. I only have one life, and I don't plan to spend it in fear.

Many browsers have built in Google search, but Firebird goes a step further, doing "I'm feeling lucky" search on anything you type in the address bar that isn't in the form "something.extension". If Microsoft takes control of Google, this could really screw up Firebird users' browsing experience.

An extreme example would be if you typed "apple" to go to apple.com, Google could redirect you to a Microsoft page that said bad things about apple. Is there any plan to modify Firebird to allow users to switch this behavior?

I think IE's dominance is overstated, and that the number of internet users who don't use IE is probably larger than 5%.

Most estimates I've heard put Linux at around 5% marketshare and Apple's sales at around 5% of the computers sold per year. Linux doesn't run IE, and with MS stopping development or IE for the Mac, that's almost 10% that won't use IE. There are also other operating systems, which, while their marketshare may be small, still don't run IE.

Plus, while most people who use Windows do use IE, some portion of them don't. Mozillazine.org lists almost 367,000 downloads of Mozilla for Windows in just the past three weeks.

A response of "Thomaston" would pretty much always get a response from the walker of some sarcastic remark like "Aww, crap...'Howda ah turn on mah compooter?'" and then the walker would go help somebody else.

I had callers trying to put compact disks into floppy drives, people who would type the entire phone number under area code, people who didn't know if they needed to dial the area code to make local calls, people who called from work to get help with their computer at home, some people trying to control the mouse with their foot, et cetera. And they all seemed to have cell phones for some reason!
