You're high. Dan Rather? Jason Blair? Big Media is essentially a spin factory these days. We have troops coming back from Iraq and hardly recognizing what they're seeing on the news passing for "war coverage." Yet, we're formulating our opinions on the war based on that coverage. Hmmm...
As for Chavez, I could care less what becomes of it. He's a piece of shit.

I wonder how much of this is sour grapes. People always poo-poo ideas so what's new? When drag racers were struggling to break the 170mph barrier in the 60's doctors told them the human body could never survive the g-forces necessary to hit that speed in 1/4mi. Now they do 300mph. I'm sure when Ma Bell built all those old desk phones they never dreamed they a) last this long and b) withstand the incredible power surges they have over the years. Yet, these phones can handle a ton more than new sets can handle.

Sometimes the 'security mindest' gets silly. I often find our security team thinks they're being paranoid for the good of the company when the truth is they're being a roadblock for the sake of being a roadblock. Or more frightening, to cover up their ignorance or to short-cut understanding the application they're trying to secure.

In this regard, they likely are miserable people but frankly, you should have people in your security department that are jazzed about IT and security. Not someone who flipped a quarter between CPA and IT professional.

I realize this kind of rhetoric makes us feel better when we chide intelligent designers or want to alleviate our guilt but the fact is we are special. Not to overplay the "Republicans are a bunch of old humorless farts" stereotype, but let's face it, Republicans aren't exactly Comedy Central's chief demographic in general (and they sure aren't the primary audience of "The Daily Show" or "The Colbert Report"). Even when conservatives do come on Stewart or Colbert, it's generally a very uncomfortable interview (polite applause from the audience, host trying desperately to think of something good to say).

Yeah, I wonder how many legmen got nervous when Al Capone wanted a sit-down? Stewart is a pretentious ass who looks down and mocks conservatives. Colbert does the same, just in character. Conservatives aren't invited to share views, they're invited as fodder for ridicule. Whether your a Dem or Repub, if you can't see that you're blind.
