Simple. M$ isn't going to concede that they can't keep up; not even to technologies they don't even have yet. They will buy technology, mimick it, or simply continue to bastardize. The thought, "You know, this software from Acme is filling the niche well. There's no reason for us to go into that segment" never occurs to them. Let alone, "You know, we've wrestled with standards and security and perhaps we should exit the browser market given the great alternatives out there." They want it all and they want it now.

I would agree that this is a stupid proposal. This has NOTHING to do with curbing child pornography. It's about money. A chance to tax and getting away with it under the guise of curbing child pornography. But your point of how this can harm children is way off. Kids who aren't developed sexually will begin to mimic what they see. Ever see a 9 year old girl acting coy and seductive? It's pretty sick shit. When they are molested, they very often have no sexual feelings at all. Yes they may feel pleasure but not orgasmic pleasure. They learn that to get what they want they can behave a certain way. They take this into their teens and often become prostitutes. There's a BIG difference between sneaking a peak at your Dad's Playboy collection and actively viewing or participating in sexual acts. Hollywood has been systematically sexing our kids younger and younger. It's all good to get kids having sex when they're not your kids. Have some of your own and the thought of some 50 year old man having "consentual" sex with your 15 year old daughter makes you want to grab a gun.

This is why we shouldn't do ANY business there. Free-thinking countries opened the door to this long ago. Now the market is too big to ignore. We've legitimized China on the world stage and have little choice but to do business with them. The question is, what are we going to do with the big snake we've raised from a tiny baby now that it's outgrown the small bits we'd been feeding it? We've been doing so much business with this machine that it's now huge. The same goes for Vietnam, though we can nip that in the bud at this point (and I'd interject it's a slap in the face to our Veterans that we'd do ANY business with them). The idea that if we do business with communist nations we can "turn them on" to capitalism and eventually democracy is a risky game. I know it's working to some extent in China but it's not at the point it can't go south. If the free countries of the world would have taken a stand against these nations to start with, they'd perhaps rethink their positions. We had the chance when the Soviet Union fell.

Right down from REI in Denver is a little two-room coffee shop. It's actually a decent design since you can go back into one quieter room and spread out. I don't think this was by design, but it probably works out well.
Again, in the long run, the more people that occupy space at a coffee shop the more coffee you'll sell. When others see this, they'll wonder what the fuss is about.
