I wish Americans were allowed to know when there was a breach of their privacy by the government for "terrorism" without having to be notified by reporters.
Maybe a note "Hey, we are wiretapping everyone and recording who you call for data mining"
Your right there is a problem, especially when you get to the bottom of the right sidebar the page does not render correctly (at least in firefox) It doesnt render correctly in IE either.
I had to check the document date to make sure this wasnt a joke. How do we expect that the patent office will be able to take these peer patent reviews seriously? How will this stand up in a court of law?
But you still dont answer the question. When you sell something to someone, what is the value of that transaction? How do you determine it if you say its worth something. I am still trying to dig down to the BASIS of the term value here, and how someone ELSE can determine the value objectively externally.
If I value something at 10 bucks, and I sell it to you for 10 bucks, how do I know that what you gave me was worth more than 10 bucks when it comes to intellectual property rights.
Is it what _I_ determined the value to be or what? see thats the problem, even though the IRS may value it, it may not have been WORTH that much to anyone. So is the IRS overvalueing the intellectual property? Is Norton undervalueing it because they wont sell it for more? Is Norton Lieing about the value of something it owns when it sells it?
How can you determine these things? How can you prove that it has a greater market value? What if Norton sells or licences it to everyone at that price?
If Bob sells me a peice of software for 100 dollars, and rights to sell it, is the software worth 100 bucks a pop, or is it worth 1 dollar a pop if I sell it to 100 people?
Were does value begin with intellectual property? At the time of creation of the property or at the time of purchase of the property?
Who determines that. And that all rolls back around. So I create the value for 1000 dollars and sell the product once to Bobs Software Buying Company for 1000 dollars, then after that all of my production costs are covered, after that all I have to do is sell it and do not support or marginally cheap support. Is the software still worth 1000 dollars, or is it now only worth what I want to sell it for. If I sell it for 50 dollars from then on, is it worth 50 bucks that I say it is, or am I undervalueing it by 950 dollars, since functionally its the same thing I made for the first client?
Could the IRS ding me for 950 dollars more in taxes because I undervalue my product? Or undervalue my licence? What if other companies are less efficient and actually do cost them 1000 dollars a pop, but since I did it right its only worth 50, should I be held to the similar product standard that they set?
This is what angers me about all these value things, it usually comes down to whatever the other guy will pay for it, so haveing the IRS say "this is what we value it at" is incredibly arbitrary, just as arbitrary as the valuation process itself in this case.
If you tie the value to the value of the company, then you MIGHT have some argument, but thats on a whole package of value and it STILL comes down to whatever the company or the market says the company is worth, not really what goes into creating the proces, its totally artificial.
You miss the point entirely, I am worth 100 an hour or 150 an hour, depending on what I am doing. Though I only get a small chunk of that.
BUT, what if I decided to sell the thing for 10 bucks, after I put 800 worth into it, is it worth 10 bucks or 800, am I selling it under market value or am I actually worth the 800 I WANT to be paid for it?
IF I make a Hello World Application, and my time is worth 100 an hour, does my hello world app cost 100 dollars because I bill a minimum of an hour?
Or is it worth essentially nothing?
Thats the question, who determines the price, if Symantic wanted to licence it for free, would it then not be worth "free"? Or is it worth what a competitor would have paid to bring it in house or an actual client.
In Pro gaming you are either the best, or you have a day job.:-)
unless you live in Korea of course...
But in the United States your not going to make a living coming in second on computer gaming. Though you can make a good living off of golden T if you are good at it, but thats mostly because you can bilk people at bars by betting money against them, and not so much about official competitive gaming.
In computer gaming you cant get 5 people in a bar and have them bet each other who will win. Especially after you see someone play you know were you are going to stand against them and wont pay for the priviledge of being beat by them.
I think he is talking about the poor not the homeless. The poor are even getting to the point were they are purchasing machines, even second hand ones that you or I wouldnt pay for, but they are willing to pay a 100 bucks for and they then have a computer.
A homeless man is another problem entirely. But for a poor person, all the sudden being able to use a cheap wifi connector and some knowhow to get internet for free instead of 45 a month will be a great boon.
I really love the idea of E-Ink, I liked it the first time Slashdot posted it a couple years ago, the many times they have covered in between, and the time it was covered in relation to the new Sony E-book reader coming out with it.
Plugins to help with downloading large sets of images from galleries. Take galleries involving home pictures of cats and dogs, with teh downthemall plugin you can easily download every picture on the page (the ones behind the link, and not just thumbnails) to the folder of your choice.
And if those pictures happen to have similar numbering schemes, suchas 01.jpg, 02.jpg etc.. down them all will rename them on the fly so that they dont have any image mix ups!
I also use FoxPose, which allows me to take many tabs and put them all visually on the same windows (ala expose for mac) and choose which one I want to use.
There are a few other things I like, but I am not sure that they arent already in Opera though.
Easy, if you are God and have a snapshot, then it could be our equivilant of sim city, you can just add or redact mass or objects at will, since the universe with which we live in is nothing more than a simulation.
HEll, in the time travel case, marty could just be sent back in time and exist back in time and force his parents never to meet. But since marty is back in time, he exists in the same "now" that his parents exist in, he never has to be born because he already exists

Amen,
His argument is like saying the latest spam mail that got pasted my filter and my spot subject line check had to be designed that way so that it could get to the user.
It takes the position that the user WANTS to be marketed too, and that ANY method at all to have them be markted to by you is legitimate.
Well, if the user wouldnt want to be markted to you under "honest" conditions, then you shouldnt essentially attempt to get around those conditions.
This is the same with google, google is in the business of providing ME and other users like me with the BEST search results. If that means that under regular best practices you wouldnt even get in the top level, it isnt UP TO YOU AS A COMPANY to "help" the user find you by getting past the methods the user has in place to protect themselves. google is my tool of choice to protect myself from bad search results, and I want it to stay a usefull tool for that.
I dont want to go back to the old days were you could type "cartoon" and get search sites in the first 100 results all saying "cant find entry for cartoon, but you can try to buy cartoon at ebay using our referrer id" bullcrap.
What I enjoy is people that take experiments that dont prove anything from 50 years ago to show that because they couldnt produce a certain result in a very specific set of circumstances means that science is wrong in 100s of other cirumstances.
What they should do is put a policy that if a site does not like their content to be indexed, then google will remove it. If they want their content re-indexed at a later date, it will cost them a 10000 dollar maintanence fee.
When you describe to someone your expectations of yourself, you come off sounding like a dick.
Especially if you win a crapload of money at a video game.
What do you say "Yea, im the guy that won 18000 thousand playing mech3" when chatting with people?
There is no good way, at least I never found any, and I was in an incredibly niche game, give the guy some credit. Hell, he is from Kansas City MO, Im from the area, and you arent trained to handle people thinking your so good at something by the culture in the area.
When you go to an event somewhere else, for you its not a big thing, and your just trying to get in and get out and there is no reason to be self deprecating because you know just how good you are, but you feel bad about necessarrily expressing it.
Oh well, my own little bit of hell of having dealt with those that just thought _I_ was arrogant, and I didnt ever intend to be when I was in a similar position when playing mech3.
Its a reference to the Anime last exile, in the last episodes a main character, dio, is set in a melee with other dio looking persons, and whoever lives gets to be the leader of the group he is a part of.
IF some Chinese dude was willing to give a certain amount of gold to the group... He is in! Unless, of course being chinese, he decided to play on the chinese language servers so that he wouldnt be confused and feel rejected by the language differences.
Of course I know plenty of english speaking people, myself included, who sometimes cant type or write correctly.
Nobody currently cares about US wiretapps of... foreigners, only Americans not involved in a warranted criminal investigation.
The problem is the option "Do not scan for subversive language and then notify NSA" was not an option. ;-(
I wish Americans were allowed to know when there was a breach of their privacy by the government for "terrorism" without having to be notified by reporters.

I hope I am not obsfucating this more lol.
How do you VALUE intellectual property? Is it what someone ELSE might pay for it, or what you say it is worth?
If you go off of what someone ELSE might pay for it, then songs should be nearly free or much discounted vs what they are currently.
If you go by what you value it to be, then you can make the value arbitrary since you are the one who applies value to it right?
WTF? How do they make these determinations.
It would take a catastrophe in their Office division to take MS down.
They make so much profit on MS office, that they use it to pay off other parts of the business that arent turning a profit.

Well, that was an interesting product demo, I got the "server busy" message. At least it wasnt blue.
you like hockey dont you? Isnt that the game were the guys play on ice with sticks and stuff?
would anyone have noticed if it had been electronic voting? I think your making the case for pen and paper.

Wierd, animes are very alike then. In The Last exile Dio has to face a hundred of young men that look exactly like him. VERY wierd.
