That may be a bit of a troll statement there, but honestly, I aksed my cousin (18) who just bought a Britney Spears Album what she thought - and she shrugged and said she didn't care. I asked my coworker who just bought an OutKast album (33) and she replied that she buys CD's all the time and thinks downloading music should be citationable. I asked my friend (24) who just downloaded Modest Mouse's album and he said "yeah that's fucked up shit man - want a hit?"

I'm not against subscriptions in general, I just think that news should be "free" and save the subscription section for the editorials, exclusive interviews, and humor type pieces.

If I remember correctly the cost of an ad in the NYT for say any "consumer product" starts at around $930 per INCH of space - For full size pages it's discounted but still VERY costly.

Also the cost of printing news papers is dirt cheap, yet they sell them for the price of $5.75/wk if you get a full 7 day a week subscription - but oh guess what that goes up to $11.50/wk after the first 2-3 months. Or $1.65ish a paper. If the paper never made money this traditional way they wouldn't still be around.

Now the website is an "extra" for their paper. They should see it as a way of getting more people to subscribe to their services or advertise on their website (which I dont know their web advert pricing) BUT instead they try to milk people and therefore have a low amount of subscribers and viewers on their site (comparatively).

yes the website costs money to run, but imo I think they could make more by openign up their archives and news articles - save the subscription stuff for things like Editorials, exclusive interviews, and Humor pieces, not news articles.

I'm of the opinion that every newspaper and website news seems to copy and paste the same articles with the exception of a few choice words put in that I just choose to ignore - for example:

    Reuters
    "Man commits suicide"

    BBC
"Man commits suicide after learning his wife was having an affair"

    CNN
"An average Joe Worker committed suicide today after having his broken when he found out about his wife having an affair with another man"

    FOX
"It was a tragic day for the family of Joe Worker who committed suicide shortly after learning that his wife was having an affiar with another man."

    NYT
"It was a day like any other, except this time Joe Worker came home early from work to surprise his wife. Unfortunately he surprised not only her, but his wife's lover as well. After becoming enraged (wouldn't we all?) he proceeded to the basement where Joe Worker took his fathers P-Shooter and blew his head off. His wife later called authorities."

Now why do I need to PAY to be able to read a NEWS story that reads like an editorial on some guys pathetic life when all I really care about is "Just the facts" and getting to the Dilbert Comics?

At first I thought he was going to talk abotu how a lot of the more mainstream distributions (by default) will boot into KDE/Gnome directly after install - both of which look a lot like windows - as in they have a start - oh I mean "begin" button that opens up a series of program shortcuts/links. Yeah i'm sure someone somewhere has made one that mimics OS X's toolbar, btu im talking about defaults here, whcih is what someone who is a windows user going to linux for the first time would probably be using.

In addition to that i've noticed linux getting way bloated (it might have even been mentione don slashdot before) Widnows with all it's included MS ware's fits on 1 cd, with Office Pro Fitting on one as well - so 2 cd's at minimum to install windows/office and be running. The reason is the Xbox is great, but it's so freeking easy to pirate the games on it, and I understand if they want to make it more secure/proprietary. As it is now, you put your mod chip in and a larger drive, flash the bios and install the new dashboard and from then on any game you rent you simply hit "copy to hard drive" and its yours. You NEVER buy games...EVER...

With the PS2 yeah you can mod it to play burned copies, but then you got to fuck with your burner software and be picky about your cd media. Also the mod chip for the PS2 is a solder only and not a "stick and screw" chip like some of the the xbox ones.

Star Trek Deep Space Nine seemed like the UPN-Space-Ghetto show and not so much of a Star Trek...Star Trek Voyager had an interesting premise, but the characters seemed to fall apart with me giving barely a rats ass if anything bad would have happened to them. Star Trek Enterprise is again a remake, but done in an original way much like Generations, but prequils don't hold my interest nearly enough as (good) sequels.

I think we've done enough with Star Trek and i'd rather see the creativeness go somewhere else. I liked a lot of the ideas behind shows like Babylon5, Farscape and (very very little) of Lexx. But the calibur of acting and dialogue wasn't always there. Stargate seems to be the only sci-fi show of this era that really impresses and I think has the ability to continue for a while, but we'll see, they have a new spin off coming along and it could totally suck without Macgyver.

If you take a look at say Gamespot.com and compare the top rated games on the PS2 compared to the top rated games on the Xbox you can see quite a good comparison. Granted this is mostly due to the PS2 being around longer, but the point is many games have yet to come out for the xbox...

Second MS by bringing out a new version of there console next year with stilla huge amoutn of games being developed for their first console should prove to everyone just how much MS DOES NOT GIVE A RATS ASS ABOUT making a great console. And instead want to simply saturate the market with their product and get everyone using it. Then they can make the Xbox 3 which everyone will have to have and no one will complain about it.

Third MS has shown their recrds indicating they have more money than god or rather something to the affect of 84 Billion in the bank with more money rolling in. They lost shitloads (millions) of dollars on the xbox 1 they may lose a few more million on the xbox 2 but you know what? 84 Billion minus 100 Million is still more money than god...
