At my home I don't have a stereo, I don't have a bad-ass sound system on my computer. I have a few mp3's and a few cd's I own and listen too rarely. In my car I have cd's I listen too rarely as well.

I think in a current week I hear about 6-8 songs and listen to 1-3 partial radio shows. I just can't be bothered with that media. I don't know if it's just because I am not fond of music as much as other people are or if it's really based on something more - like the lack of quality in the mainstreams current music. But then again everyone has their own opinion on what is good. Obviously Britney Spears wouldn't be making more money than I will ever see in my entire life if people didn't like her.

    I don't agree with #3
    - The idea of releasing the DVD some time after the movie dies out is because companies want to make the most money they can. This doesn't happen all at once. By staggering Movie--couple months---DVD---couple months---DVD w/ Extras you can make money for a year off of the 1 movie, where as if you released everything at once you would make a lot of money but not everyone would purchase your stuff and it would all be forgotten within a couple months later. Even if it's a good movie it'd be "out of site, out of mind" for the general public (die hard slashdotters and sci-fi fanboys are th eonly exceptions)

#4 this would suck right now. Even with my 1.5mbs DSL connection watching streaming music videos off of yahoo or news off of foxnews/cnn etc.. sucks. The quality is terrible, and the video usually choppy. We'd need a lot better streaming technology or at least a lot better bandwidth on both sides fo rthis to really be worthwhile.

#5 movie ticket prices have very little to do with the cost of the movie....There three theatres in my area, 1 is an AMC theatre that charges around $10 per person, another is a Century theatre that charges around $8 and one is a Camera theatre that charges around $6. It has more to do with the sound, screen size, and comfortability of the theatre than anything else. Also movies and video games ar etotally different markets (sometimes) and for the most part video games get used a lot more often and more frequently than movies. You buy a movie watch it with friends, then maybe a few months later will watch it again, a video game is bought you play it for 120 hours - since it lasts longer and is used more it...costs more - makes sense to me.

Both have 40gig HD's and both have applications installed/uninstalled quite often. My PC feels the worst of this as he gets games installed and uninstalled in addition to the apps.

For example the last time I reinstalled either of these machines was back in january(new year fresh install) and since then my pc has felt the install/uninstal of various games usually ranging from 2-5 gigs each. The Apple has been installed and with the exception of updates, plugins, video codecs and basic small apps that get added/upgraded often has done alright.

Right now Norton System Works on my PC is saying the drive is 4% fragmented. Disk Warrior on my Apple is saying the drive is 2% fragmented.

Conclusion: Fragmentation is no longer an issue for the HOME USER(note how i'm not saying your companies network doesn't need to be concerned), unless there still running a FAT32 partition >. which well they deserve to have there computer explode at that point anyway.

Theres no reason for a graphic designer to touch linux ever. Maybe a windows machine, always an apple, but never linux.

The makers of GIMP are open source programmers who know nothing about graphic design in the professional world. Look at the prettines of their site compared to adobe's. The GIMP could have millions of dollars of money put into it and never be as good as phhotoshop, because they don't know or understand that CODERS ARE NOT GRAPHIC DESIGNERS and vice versa.

For the record I hate most Apple Fans, the same way I hate Linux Fans, and WIndows Fans there usually onesided and think their favorite app is god's gift to the world.

However, this is a pretty lame ass article. I don't like the iPods (for various reasons) but they ARE a great little machine and very popular. Looking around the office I see 4 people atm who have one on there desk, I know 3 freinds that own one, and at school I see them all over the place. So even if Apple lost some money on these in the first year or two they now have there name ALL OVER THE PLACE. This is basically Marketing 101, you get your name out there at any cost, eventually it comes back to you, this is why companies will spend $1+ on superbowl commercials. It's also why in San Jose if you buy any new 04 VW you get an iPod for free.

Now iTunes. I don't know anyone who uses this, as most still use Kazaa for any thing they want. However if I recall correctly there was a /. article in the past talking about X amount of music downloaded in the first day or something, and from what I remember it was a fairly large number. The thing is this is a new service, and if it has lost money, well it's only been out for a year and most business as a rule of thumb don't see a profit for 3 years, it takes 1 the first year to work on doing whatever it takes to get the name out, the second year your more known and the name really starts to be branded at that point, then the third year is when you actually have enough of a customer base that you start breaking even and/or seeing a profit.

Anyway, all in all, Apple over the last 4 years has really gotten their name out, and made a huge difference. I think their really starting to gain a larger market share because of these endeavors, and in the next year or two I expect to see them raking in a lot of money.
