Hey that's interesting. I seem to recall many many pinball machines had these.
Btw, I'm from the netherlands, so who knows, maybe I was playing french pinball machines from the sixties (my memories of these tubes are from the seventies....)
Seeing these tubes brought back the memories of playing pinball in my local snackbar again.
Another post here mentions the really cool effect you get when te numbers change rapidly, as the filaments are placed at different depths you get this nice depth change effect....
Ah, you reminded me of that great song by Joe Jackson:
Everything
Everything gives you cancer
Everything
Everything gives you cancer
There's no cure, there's no answer
Everything gives you cancer
Don't touch that dial
Don't try to smile
Just take this pill
It's in your file
Don't work hard
Don't play hard
Don't plan for the graveyard
Remember -
Everything
Everything gives you cancer
Everything
Everything gives you cancer
There's no cure, there's no answer
Everything gives you cancer
Don't work by night
Don't play by day
You'll feel all right
But you will pay
No caffeine
No protein
No booze or
Nicotine
Remember -
From the album "Night and Day"
Out of curiosity I listened to some randomly chosen podcasts (chosen randomly from the lists in iPodder) the other day.
They were all the same: sad people talking into cheap microphones.
While I like the concept and the way iPodder works, the podcasts i listened to were very much like the early webpages people made when 'having a homepage' was very cool. Hey look at me, I have a Podcast too...pfff
...These systems require very large amounts of energy to operate. For this reason, smaller, diesel fueled submarines cannot use these systems and are required to resurface to re-supply their oxygen tanks every so often...
I doubt that you could generate oxygen burning diesel, run your diesel engine with this oxygen AND have some spare oxygen to breathe as well.
But the amount of energy required is irrelevant in this case. A diesel is a_combustion_engine, dûh....
I remember reading s Sci-Fi story where death sentences were carried out by standing the victim in the center of a footbal stadium and everyone in the crowd had a big mirror.
Don't remember who wrote it though....smoked too much back then...
I used Webstar under Os9.
Really slowed my 600 MHz iMac down to a crawl and I kept having to shut it down when I wanted to run Podracer.
It was very very easy to configure though, allthough I'm now sort of used to apache's httpd.conf, I sometimes long for a simple management interface like webstar had...
It ran a great e-mail server too....
Ha, your list is pretty good
(never heard of the bonephone, now I want one !)
The intimidating maglite flashlight is there though, on position 63.
Doei doei,
"Next, explain to us how packets from computer A with ISP X on one side of the world, can possibly attack computer B with ISP Y on the other side of the world without going through at least two routers."
I saw ROTK 2 disc DVD on sale for 5 in my local supermarket.
Still did not buy it because I want the super-duper extended version for Christmas:)
The point being that if you wait long enough the price of 'just the movie' will drop so much that that in itself is worth waiting for also.

I even got a recording off the radio once - complete with the DJ voice over at the end.
Ha, but i bet it was sampled at 320 kbps and the file was at least 40 mB.
Yeah, those Britney songs really sound better at higher bitrates......
Obi Wan Kenote ?

Britney Spears is very succesful too. Still, not for me....
Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a go...

Ha, I plain forgot about pointcast... In modem days it made some sense....until it got all bloated & topheavy.
Wow...that's it, I'm moving to California and be one of those people...

First thing that pops in my Mind...
World Domination
Or another cliche that is not necessarily true: German Engineering is the best in the world.
Can you actually fill it with stuff you actually paid for? :)

NOTE: The technology is not that clever that it will automatically change 2D images into 3D!!! That has to be done by appropriate software!
I will wait until the technology _is_ smart enough to do that...imagine all the old Ren and Stimpy shows in 3D !Ah, just a good old .htacces file does the job for me...I don't want the whole world reading my calendar without _some_ efffort anyway :)

Ha, that link predicts that my browser will crash when I visit it! And it does, every time... Safari 1.2.4 on OsX 10.3.7
Yes, but the packet _itself_ is unaware of this.... as far as _it_ knows its on a flat LAN....
"Next, explain to us how packets from computer A with ISP X on one side of the world, can possibly attack computer B with ISP Y on the other side of the world without going through at least two routers."

Easy: VPN
Are You sure the iPod came out before iTunes? I'm pretty sure it was the other way around.
You probably mean the 'iTunes Music Store' right?

Warm water squirts in the cold sea are always a warning sign :)
Because it's more work.
Time is critical.
One minute is OK, two minutes is too much
(it's very much like ' mission impossible' )
