My first thought when I saw the breakdown in the summary is that she just heard a dirty joke. The angry kind of goes with that, but I don't know about the fearful part.
Let me get this straight. Tim Burton is taking credit for the toys connected with a comic book movie? I guess I need to file him in the B section of the complete nutball drawer.
Peter: Hey, what are you doing here? Superman: I killed a hooker. She made a crack about me being faster than a speeding bullet so I ripped her in half like a phonebook.
Does this provide strong evidence as the summary states? I don't know what kind of correlation there is for looking at ice cores (I'm assuming I haven't RTFA) and world events. What kind of correlation can we expect from these observations? I like science and all, but blaming it all on humanity is a little too sensational for my critical thinking processes.
Looks like the guy that put this together doesn't remember how to play. What's up with every army in the territory moving to the one just conquered? Another good one was when I was trying to reposition troops, I clicked on where I wanted them to go rather than where they are moving from. I ended up having a territory without an army. WTF?
If you think about the economics of it, it's a no-brainer. NASA as we know it is bloated like Windows. There are over-priced projects that are sucking it dry with little to know return in knowledge and/or experience. On the other hand some of the recent successes are garage projects, by comparison. Think of Pathfinder. It was pretty much a small project that reaped big rewards. We have probes that are going into extended service (that were not necessarily launched from the shuttle). And how many times do we see stories here on Slashdot about people from University 'X' making a satelite that runs on Linux for chump change? Incidentally, I think all the analogies of moving into an apartment that isn't finished kind of misses the point of the ISS. It is more like moving into a time share that isn't finished.
The space program also gave us Gore-Tex. I likes the Gore-Tex. Then there's also the probes that have been sent out into space and the space telescopes. I'm pretty sure our knowledge of Physics has been advanced by the space program, but yeah other than that it's Teflon.
Then there are the smart ones that are being proactive in reducing energy consumption. I don't have the resources to be as smart as possible here, but I think I'm off to a good start with CFL bulbs and I turn them off as much as possible. I'm replacing older appliances with more energy efficient ones (get a front load washer when you're in the market, fellow Americans). I have been able to put off getting an AC unit for the last seven years and counting. We put on clothes during the winter. We walk or ride bikes for short trips. Our car isn't the most efficient, but not as bad as an SUV, and I carpool.
If I had the money, I'd be going for the solar roof tiles and a possibly a wind turbine, solar water heating, geothermal climate control, and an efficient sub-compact car for the shorter trips. I wouldn't say I'm radical environmentalist by any means. I sure like spending less money. Hey, do you think overclocking my computer would be a good supplement to my heater during the winter?
Didn't somebody once say that a gravitational singularity satisfies all the technical requirements for the location of Hell? Very suitable.
Two observations: First, they should have used Singularity instead of windows all along. Second, if you take market share and apply it to life, Most of the planet is going to/already in hell.
If you reread my original post, you will see that I am not saying piracy is improbable, only piracy from stolen shipments. The main thing I am saying is that if not mail theft, then Disney is pointing the finger at the people they are compelled to send them to and are in the process not making a good move.
I guess the cliff notes version of my post would read:
Disney is essentially saying either people are stealing discs that are intended for review (unlikely), or reviewers are the culprit (likely, but not intelligent to point out).
Yeah it happens, but my point there was that it is unlikely that someone stealing discs in the mail at some point along the delivery system before it gets to the recipient. Their effort is supposed to be eliminating the entry of the disc into the market. Once it happens it is as you say trivial.
The crux of my going out on a limb is that Disney has labelled the reviewers as the problem. If they are the problem, they don't like getting tagged, and income eliminated. If they aren't the problem, they don't like getting tagged with the ones that are. It is akin to career suicide to say a reviewer is a problem and put tech into play that attempts to eliminate that problem. If reviewers aren't going to like being labelled, justly or unjustly, there will be bias. If a biased reviewer looks at 5 movies up for best something or other, do you go with the one made by Disney? Considering how they've been branded, I don't think so.
This is really funny. Disney is basically saying that the academy is the biggest problem in the whole movie copying/pirating thing. Can this be seen as anything but a cheap shot at the Academy? Sure they're thwarting piracy. How easy is it to get your hands on one of these bad boys to begin with? If I put my mind to it I think I could figure out who one person is who would actually get one of these DVDs and that's because my brother taught the guy golf lessons a few years back. (I got to see Titanic on VHS when it was still in the theaters and I'm glad I didn't have to pay to see that steaming pile.) The odds of actually knowing who would have one of these and actually be able to get your hands on it is just about impossible. All I can figure is that there is either A. an extremely unlikely chance of stealing a delivery of a DVD and pirating it, or B. the people that are intended to receive them are considered by Disney to be entirely untrustworthy. Disney has to send them or risk not getting any awards, so instead they blow a load of money to make themselves look like a bunch of paranoid idiots. I think I'll go out on a limb and say that Disney isn't going to earn any more awards for future movies. I guess on the bright side Disney isn't really trying to win any awards for the movies they put out lately.
A modern Moon shot is to prepare for a Mars shot. Then there is the other more obvious reason. To rape the pristine (never mind all the unsightly craters) moonscape for all the natural resources that abound there. I hear there's a HUGE oil reserve under the Sea of Tranquility.
Personally I'm in favor of 50 G acceleration, a la Dragonball Z. That way we get Super Sayan astronauts out of the deal. Explore space and protect Earth all from one project.

Ironically the comment mostly stands in the uncorrected post. I can't remember the show (it got cancelled part way through the first season) but there was an Arab character that the Arab community got irate about. The portrayal wasn't demeaning or insulting in any way, but there was a backlash. But yes, the intended point made in the corrected post is very true.

The problem is the statistics can only say Japan has a low rate and the US has a high rate. There is no correlation to only media content and sexual habits of teenagers. There is also the whole sense of honor in Japan, that AFAIK is reinforced in much of anime. The US doesn't have this ingrained sense of honor. How many teenagers will think of the implications to their family's honor?
So does that mean I either need to shave or wax everything below the scalp in the name of science and interstellar diplomacy? I'll pretend you didn't say nude for now.
If anyone else (besides the mod in question) thinks that the parent was showing insight (no offense Big Ad; I know it's a joke) please step forward. I guess I could give the benefit of the doubt and say the mod could have accidentally modded as insightful, but meant funny, but the more I read comments the more I find instances like this. Either it was a mistake, or a bad mod. Whichever one it was I say to everyone: META MODERATE! Please? Since I have set my preferences to send messages about how my moderations have been meta modded I have received ZERO messages about the meta moderating results. I have had mod points at least three or four times since then.

I can only hope that when he said violated he didn't mean sodomy with Kryptonite. Superman would be screwed, no pun intended (or is it?).
Transformers is going to give him tractor trailer loads of credibility.
Correlation.

I would love to see this done with Supremacy. That game is the bomb (pun intended).
