That the PSP hasn't nearly caught up to the DS in Japan. Remember when looking at those figures that the DS sold 1.5 million in 2004 compared to the PSP's 0.5 million. Ths DS isn't doubling up the PSP anymore, but it still holds more than a 800,000 unit lead on the PSP.

Nintendo hardware is just so freaking reliable. The GameCube is cheaper, more durable, and arguably more powerful than the other two consoles. Their warranty people are great if you get unlucky, but otherwise Nintendo stuff is built to last.
Most companies (...) don't care about this anymore. I laughed in the face of the man at EB who asked me about an extended warranty for my DS.
But really, Nintendo has ensured a strrong position with their DS sales to date. There shouldn't be much to worry about. The market should continue to support Nintendo for a long time.
Yes, but people have a higher tolerance for pain when the box says Sony. All those people buying new PS2s to replace their old ones that couldn't play GT4. It really is a sad commentary on our society.
I don't remember no Kiddie-tendo or S(hit)EGA console with analogue joysticks before Sony came along.
You are obviously going through the first stages of Alzheimer's. I suggest you see a doctor, because with early treatment, Alzheimer's development can be significantly slowed.
I agree too, even as a Nintendo fan. I just worry that Nintendo will get swept away in a tsunami of hype and haters, and we will be left without them.

There have been GBA commercials for 3 games since the DS has been out. FF1 and 2: Dawn of souls, Zelda: Minish Cap, and Kingdom Hearts.
People seem to neglect the games the DS has in development. Sure the PSP has more games now, but Sony went out of their way to make the system easy to port to, thus most of the launch games are just that, ports. Those that aren't were probably on their way to the PS2, but were changed mid-course to the PSP. The DS has a lot of good games lined up.
Virtual Boy my ass. The touch screen isn't a gimick. It's coming whether you like it or not, and if Nintendo doesn't succeed with it, someone else will. Of course the fact that Nintendo has already sold over 4 million DSs world wide tends to lend itself to future success. Consider Japan. The DS is leading nearly 2:1 over the PSP in total sales. It ain't going away, and it will not be a faiure for Nintendo.
Nintendo HAS NOT announced the next Game Boy yet. I have the document this rumor is based on. It was an stock market analyst's prediction and had zero concrete evidence.
Yeah, but since the media is committed to reporting every Nintendo rumor as absolute truth. I have to say:
What the hell is Microsoft thinking. They just admitted Halo 2 was an awful game. Though this is an unsubstantiated rumor, it proves to me how awful a company Microsoft is. No one should buy a DS... I mean Halo 2 if Microsoft is going to release a new one in less than a year. What an idiotic company!
However, Sony has quashed such rumors, stating that region-coding is available for games, but up until now no Japanese game has used it and U.S. games probably won't use it either.
Sony has gone out of their way to not quite promise that all games will be region free. The PSP certainly has the ability to region lock games, and a simple policy change by Sony could make it happen.
But, no, now it isn't, but the fact that the hardware gives the option at all for games is worrysome for the future.
I can point to quite a few beautiful games that didn't need great graphics.
You talk about "Lord of the Rings" as some sort of perfect ideal. I contend that most if not all of Stanley Kubrick's films were better. 2001 is a bad example, because it is a movie that could have benefitted from today's graphics, but the next time you watch it, remember that Star Wars was made ten years later. Then there are movies like Dr. Strangelove wich didn't even need COLOR to be great.
On the flip side, what about the amazing production values of Battlefield Earth and WaterWorld. Would you prefer these movies over a Dr. Strangelove?
How exactly is the gamecube geared towards their games? It's a general purpose computing platform, unlike say the PS2 which has a bunch of custom hardware.
I challenge you to buy a video card based on the "Flipper" chipset. Just because Nintendo decided not to reinvent the wheel with the gamecube's componants doesn't mean they are off-the-shelf and not optimized.
I've been to about ten of these industry events over the years and the pattern is always the same, but in the end it means nothing in the marketplace.
I disagree slightly. Last year's E3 did a lot to fuel the DS's current success. I had been waiting for Nintendo to bring their cards to the table for a few years. They kept promising something truely new, and it never really panned out until E3 2004.
Since then, it seems like Nintendo's attitude has changed. I don't remember speeches like this keynote or Reggie's E3 presentation happening before.
Maybe it will all end up the same in the end, but I hope it won't.
Developers cannot rely on the latest graphics and more powerful machines?
If you read or listened to the speech, you would know that this is over simplified. The point Iwata makes is that developers cannot only rely on the latest graphics and more powerful machines.
He went out of his way to say that he wants and likes better graphics, but that the days where increased graphics makes a fundamental gameplay difference is over. There was a time when simply making a game 3D made a fresh game experience, and those days are over.
Less polygons and less enemies on screen at the same time. The fact is that the GameCube is a better graphical system than the PS2. The game will not be as polished on the PS2, but how much this will matter remains to be seen. If it is true that fewer enemies will be able to be on screen at the same time, there will be a significant advantage to the GC version.

Fortunately the DS comes with a stylus.

Long live the DS.
Uh... and? The PSP has a USB port. As much as I joke about plugging in a Logitech wheel for GT4, I'm sure a headset would actually make sense.
You inferred that the DS could not have a headset with this comment, Trolly. And I just wanted to call you on it.
Total worldwide GBA sales rival total worldwide PS2 sales. I would call that sucessful, Trolly McTrollington.
DS has a headset port, Trolly McTrollington. Rectangular port in combination with adjacent headphone port.
The Xbox and the GameCube can push more polygons than the PS2, which shows exactly how mech you know about video game systems.
Obviously NAMCO thinks the DS can handle it, and they have more experience with programming the DS than you or I.
Now we have leet-speak grammar nazis? Only on Slashdot!

AAAAAAUUUUUUGGGHHHHHH!

Don't forget Advance Wars and maybe Odama.
I wish they'd made a sequel to WW with the same style and engine.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who feels that way.

as good as on the PS2.
That should read as good on the PS2. Should have previewed.
Here is what most people cite as the reason for the argument that RE4 will not be as good as on the PS2.
