  1. The issue still hasn't been fixed, and Apple seems to be pointing the finger at the car companies to update the vehicle firmware. As if that is a viable solution.

So now the car is holding the phone wrong?

Many times there are laws or contracts preventing this. For example, I know in CT it is illegal for a bar to buy beer at a supermarket and then sell it, even if it is cheaper than buying from a distributor (which it is). I imagine in the Art business, if they guy is caught buying at walmart and reselling, the distributor may refuse to sell him other things not available anywhere else.

Ok, the "app bundle" is gone, but the "application framework" is there? Microsoft was forced to remove the entire "application framework" from windows. Maybe my analogy was off. Perhaps it is more like "dragging iexplore.exe" to the trash but leaving all the dlls behind. Not that i am much of a MS apologist, but this seems like using different names for similar things and acting like its totally different because its Apple to me.

Why does linux need this foothold? So we can have nonfree, proprietary software released for it? Linux is for the do-it-yourselfer. These are the people who got Linux where it is, and these are the people who would be able to contribute and help it improve. This is software of the people, by the people, for the people. Linux, at its roots, is a hobbyist project. Making it esier to use is always a goal, but I cannot agree with you that what linux needs "more than anything else" is 20% of those bellyaching, finger pointing "I can't be bothered to do it in two steps, I need it done in one" users. Freedom (speech) isn't for everyone. It is quite obvious that many, many people are willing to give up freedom for so-called security (someone to point a finger at), and MS Windows seems perfect for them. Linux did not get to where it is today through the efforts of this 20% of desktop users. Also, lets not forget, these companies are "stealing" "IP" from linux contributers, as much as kazaa users are "stealing" from the RIAA.
