I consider you lucky. The PSU I originally put in my computer was apparently really horrible. Every time I turned on my computer, the system would crash within a few minutes and I'd have to restart, after which it would be fine until I turned it off next. This went poorly diagnosed for over a year. Eventually it started getting so bad that you could occasionally, and then frequently, hear a click that I eventually figured out was the HDD turning on or off.

When it got so bad that I could rarely boot my machine, I replaced the HDD with a much bigger one. In keeping that spinning, the PSU luckily burned itself out. I bought a new one off newegg and since then there have been no problems at all! Never underestimate the lameness of a bad but working PSU.

However, if light used to be slower, then matter could still not travel faster than the slower speed, following all the current known laws. As far as I can tell, if the universe's expansion were to accelerate past the speed of light, then the force of gravity would be unable to slow it back down. Sadly, with regards to the initial question of how we can see light from the beginning of the universe, I unfortunately have no idea.

If this is the case why are there not more Congressmen, Reps, etc from the Libertarian, or Reform parties? Or Independant?

The reason that neither a Libertarian nor a Reform president will exist for a long time, if ever, is that members of these parties have very strong convictions toward their beliefs. Since most Americans don't have nearly as strong beliefs, they are somewhat put off by such convictions. It's much easier to vote for a Democrat or a Republican since you can be pretty sure they won't do anything very extreme.

I don't have any numbers on this, but I'm pretty sure I can safely say that most registered Democrats vote almost entirely Democrat and Republicans vote almost entirely Republican. Except for usually president and governer, most people don't have the time or effort to look into a candidate's platform. It's easier to stick with what has already worked. For this reason, it will take something major to fit a member of a different party into the White House.
