/. for posting this story? Will they issue subpeonas to find out all the users who posted info on disabling autorun or mentioned MacOS or Linux?
While I'm on this, I wonder exactly how many sites have instructions on disabling autorun? Google reports "disable autorun" as having 15,000 hits on the web, 5,000 on usenet groups. Also, how about all the pc magazines and books that have this info? What about all the tv networks that carried this story?
That's just considering the disabling of autorun. Think about how many more sites will have info on linux or MacOS. They can't possibly stop this information, so why they hell did they come up with a system this damn easy to defeat?
What exactly is supposed to be done about this? True, the current methods of censorship are not perfect and can't stop word getting passed around in some form, but will our governments and corporations find better ways to hide information and ideas they don't like?
The FBI operatives operated the tanks. Clark was the division commander, right? Or was he the post commander at the time? Either way, you miss something that many civilians don't know about. An officer in the military CANNOT criticize the President, Secretaries, Governors, or legislators. If one of those people tell him to do something he doesn't like, he has no say whatsoever and must obey.
It's up to the STATES to make the system secure, no matter whos tools they use to cast the votes
True, that's the way it should go according to the Constitution. We've all seen how well the Constitution is followed over the course of history though.
The use of an open source system will never be approved, as the people in government are controlled by corporate ties (this includes both major parties, mind you). Diebold will eventually be allowed to setup their systems in every precient across the nation, and this crackable system will be cracked, and the wrong person(s) (ie, the one the people did not vote for) will be "elected". The only thing that could possibly stop this is something that could get you thrown into a camp in Cuba... I think that thing is "revolution"...
Capture the output (digital preferablly) from the soundcard and encode it to whatever format that is desired. This should be workable with digital outs on current soundcards, right? If not, then it has to be sent out in analog (sound) form eventually to get to the ears, so record it that way.
when they discovered she thought 'Kazaa' was a magician playing at local kids' birthday parties.
Exactly where does that appear in the article? Come on folks, it's not that hard to write a good story without bashing clueless users.
Then a user VPNs in with an infected machine against policy, or brings a laptop in and plugs it in.
Don't allow VPN access. As for the infected laptop, read some of the other comments on this thread.
Define "often", please. It could be once a month, once a quarter.
Checking windowsupdate.microsoft.com every day sounds like the best option.
No, it's just that it's easier to assume that you are smarter than them and assume you know their network and systems.
Any admin that is worthy of keeping his/her job should know that there are minimum security standards that must be enforced when using Windows (or any other system). Then again, I forgot, this is the government we are talking about, right? They hire just about anybody, right?
1.) Use a firewall to block unnecessary access from the external network
2.) Patch Windows often
3.) Use anti-virus software and update the definitions often
I would have thought that the State Department would at least do these minimums (to keep its
systems "safe from evil-doers"), but I guess you can't even expect that much from government work.
Oh yeah, and didn't the US train Osama bin Laden and all the other foreign nationals fighting the Soviet Army?
The official word from the CIA denies this ever happened. Obviously, most people have heard otherwise. If you have some sources this can be based on, please reply.
I predict Bush/Cheney, and other republicans by a landslide.
Seriously though, from what I saw in an election on September 9 here, we have an even bigger problem that doesn't involve connectivity. Anybody could just go in and punch their votes as many times as they want, as long as the total number of votes doesn't exceed the number of registered voters in that district. This would have to be done by a voting official though, which could easily be arranged. This could also be done by anybody who just wants to screw around as long as they aren't being watched by the monitoring officials.
Things like this, along with the issues with Diebold, are putting the rights of the people to vote at stake, and something (what I don't know) needs to be done.
The article mentions safety features to protect not only the driver of the SUV, but other drivers as well (lower bumpers). It does not minimize the threat of a moron behind the wheel on their cell phone, which often happens in smaller vehicles as well. Today, had I assumed that a young female yapping on her cell phone and reaching for something across the car was going to stop and let me walk across the street (as required by drivers on campus), I would have been run down and unable to post this.
Now someone just has to take the plans and use them, not just have them in concept design only. Would the oil and gas industries try to fight something like this? You betcha. If we ever got to a point where reducing gas/oil consumption here was a priority, we could not only save people financially, but reduce our need for foreign resources. But, we have corporate fiends who want to exploit people for profit, so I don't see these designs being put into use for a while.
Just wait until the RIAA defeats the evil doing filesharers in the US first. Then, they will send the armies of lawyers to Canada and anywhere else music is shared freely.
How can it be a news source when it doesn't have anyone out writing articles or doing research? They only get what people submit from 3rd parties. You are right in everything you say, just that the method of obtaining articles would have to change for the credibility level to increase.
when can i download it on kazaa

As for the submitter, perhaps they needed some karma and hurriedly sent some anti-RIAA story they haven't bothered to read completely.

You should have typed "Washington, DC" for your location.

You're about to be out of job yourself and need to know about a new line of work.

I typed in my zip code, found all the operators and their data within my zip.

Also e-mailed him about this, not corrected.
What is the point of subscribers pointing out problems if they aren't corrected?
