i just found out what i sometimes suffer from is sleep paralysis as well....difference is i get mine just before i'm about to fall asleep. i usually get it when i'm very tired or stressed though. i'll be about 70% conscious, with everything feeling a bit dream-like, but i'll be unable to move any part of my body except maybe my eyeballs. about half the time i can move my head a bit, so what i'll do is jerk my head from left to right, and i'll snap out of it. i kinda theorized that this happens when my body falls asleep faster than my mind can, so jerking my head around "arouses" my brain and makes me wake up.
the most scary incident i had with sleep paralysis was when i once slept on the couch in the living room similar to you. the television was right in front of the couch, and whilst i was waiting for the episode to pass i became increasingly paranoid about sadako crawling out of the tv. my imagination ended up creating a semi-hallucination, where i was imagining sadako actually crawling out of the tv, but i wasn't actually seeing it. and the dream-like state of my consciousness made the terror very intense, but slow-motion and dreary at the same time. i estimated it lasted almost ten minutes, i didn't like that one at all either:p
one other time it was just plain irritating though...i was falling asleep just as sleep paralysis set in, and whilst i was waiting to snap out of it i started needing to piss really badly, but my body refused to snap out of it. so i was stuck on the bed with my bladder about to burst, but unable to do anything about it for about 5-10 minutes. annoying as hell i tell you:)
i occassionally get sleep paralysis, and it usually sets in just as i'm about to fall asleep. i'll be semi-conscious, but unable to move my body except for my eyes and sometimes my head (but barely). it usually lasts about 5-10 minutes, and i've also noticed this always happens when i'm very tired and sleeping on my back. do you know sleeping on one's back causes this?
"But at least he's giving us the satisfaction of knowing all us draft age people aren't going to bleed to death on the battlefield.:("
more like draft age males. the feminist still insist on having the same rights but not sharing the same responsibilities as men. men will go off to die in a war whilst the women toady around safe and sound at home. off-topic i know, but i had to say it. down with radical feminism!
actually i live in singapore...sorry if i gave you the wrong impression. currently, the water purified through some method called "reverse-osmosis" or something similar, has been tested in a laboratory to be cleaner than the water we currently consume, and as it is the water here is already clean enough to be consumed straight from the tap. i drink water straight from the tap all the time without any ill effects so much so that i've gotten used to it to the point, that when i went to china a few years ago my local host looked appalled when i proceeded to do the same there. apparently the water has to be boiled at least once before it is safe for consumption.
anyway i didn't mean to imply that the ski resort would purify water to the same standards that singapore does. i agree that they probably wouldn't, since it wouldn't be cost-effective. i was just attempting to dismiss the eek factor a lot of people have with reclaimed water, despite the fact that it can be cleaner than most forms of potable water today.
by the way, singapore's utilities services are strictly government monitored, and even small screw-ups are widely publicised. a few years ago a sewage pipe in an apartment buildling leaked raw sewage into the water pipes due to lack of maintenance, resulting in some people being hospitalized. the case was plastered all over the newspapers and i'm sure some heads were rolling after that, as they rightfully should;)
i agree...the concept i'm referring to though, is the concept of water purified through man-made means, as opposed to nature which most people are more used to. in singapore's case, they're currently pumping the purified water into reservoirs, just to let it sit in the open so the birds and fish can crap into it and let nature do a bit of its thing, before purifying it again to pump into the water supply. all this, just to satisfy the odd inhibitions that a lot of people have to consuming purified sewage. weak-minded people really do bother me sometimes.
water purified from human waste can actually be cleaner than water purified through normal means. its just the idea that irks most people. singapore has started introducing water that is "reclaimed" from sewage for consumption. the purity of the water exceeded the standard set by the world health organization by quite a far margin. if i'm not wrong some places in america already use water reclaimed from sewage for consumption, so its not as if this is a completely new concept.
maybe the leading cause of/.ers having trouble getting female company is due to the blood clots causing erectile dysfunction after getting stuck in the penis. damn, that would hurt.
not only that....given the military's track record of online security, the wireless network might not be properly secured, and enemy personnel could easily eavesdrop or worse, take complete control of the ship. i hope the military brass knows what they're doing.
i am a guitar player...and this introduces nothing new.
it might be able to process individual strings, but are the pickups able to pick up individual strings? if you mean making the guitar wireless, its already being done by connecting the guitar to a wireless microphone trasmitter. if you mean effects, i think pedals are good enough, since fiddling with buttons or knobs on your guitar to turn effects on or off would not be possible or convenient to do so whilst you're playing.
anyway unless the pickups become digital as well, the digital interface in between the analog pickups and analog speakers isn't going to do much. you might as well save the money you would spend on this gibson and buy some quality cables and pickups.
i think this is more of a gimmick than anything else. there's no actual need for a digital electric guitar. its just digital for the sake of being so....its kinda reminiscent of all those "can i install linux on my toaster" jokes. you might be able to, but what's the point??
i agree...xvid is pretty redundant. it just adds to the mess of various video codecs out there. its not as if it has double the quality and half the filesize of divx.
i agree. the author of the post you replied to probably hasn't seen a proffesionally encoded divx file. a properly encoded divx, is almost indistinguishable from the original DVD it was encoded from.
no, it makes my mouth tired and people sometimes use it to jam up train doors. if you did any research on the reasons behind the banning of chewing gum, you'd understand that most of singapore's population relies heavily on public transport, which includes buses and the mass-rapid transit (singapore's metro). jamming up the doors of trains would cause massive and very expensive delays and this cannot be allowed to happen. trains generally arrive at stations every 5 minutes during peak hours and about 10 minutes during off-peak hours and to have it any longer would be unthinkable.
if you have ever lived in singapore you'd know how densely populated it is and more importantly, you'd understand a lot of the rules and regulations that may seem silly and laughable to an uninformed outsider like yourself.
the import of chewing gum is illegal, because when it was legal, people would intentionally stick chewing gum wads on train doors, which would jam them up and cause expensive and unnecessary delays. singapore is a very populous place, and the large majority of the public depend on public transport as the cost of ownership of cars has been made high to prevent traffic congestion like in thailand.
its important to understand the rationale and background information behind things rather than just criticize the end result. its both immature and idiotic.
and if one knew just a bit about governing a country, most laws are drafted and enacted as a deterrant. sure, as the parent poster mentioned, people here still jaywalk, spit and eat chewing gum bought from malaysia but the number of people who do so would be much less than if those laws were not in place. the moment 80% of the population starts spitting, jaywalking and sticking chewing gum all over the place, the police would start to clamp down on offenders.
this applies to singapore's anti-free-speech thing. you can rant on online forums and to your friends at work or school about your grievances regarding the government (which still does a fine job for the most part) and no one cares. the moment you try to organize a riot or a rebellion they'll clamp down on you ruthlessly. in my opinion, if you abuse your right to free speech and infringe on me, my loved ones and my friends' right to life and safety (singapore has some of the safest streets in the world), then you deserve to have that right forcefully revoked from you.
ditto for china. they may have harsh penalties for seemingly trivial offences, but such laws are there as a deterrant, and to make an example out of some unlucky individual every once in a while.
if i'm not wrong modern light bulbs are simply filled with some sort of inert gas, which is why they don't make a popping sound when you break them anymore.
of course the college you go to doesn't matter. you don't even have to go to one to be successful. bill gates dropped out of the school and now he's one of the richest and most successful men in the world, in charge of the company leading today's information technology industry into the future, microsoft. truly a role model for us all.
