if you pause it it starts recording what you were watching. you stated yourself that it will not record the promo if you are already recording something...
it DOES use the internal hard drive. it DOES NOT use space on that internal hard drive that is reserved for personal recordings. it uses a part of that internal hard drive that they have reserved specifically for this purpose
you could simply make sure your kids don't watch it. i mean, if it is on BBC, i don't imagine that you have your parental controls blocking that channel to begin with, and they could just sit down and watch it when it was live. how is that different? simply monitor what your children are watching... jeez. people make me sick. wanting the government or electronic boxes to parent thier children for them.
tivo already has the market share. you do know that non-geeks don't refer to these devices as PVRs right? they call them Tivos, even if they are not tivo boxes.

ummm, it's called FTP. set up an ftp server, give the address out to your friends, and have them set up ftps and give the address to you. simple. if you want to chat, fire up an icq/irc...
when kazaa users switch to gnutella after the kazaa network dies (eventually those login servers will go bye bye) they will bring thier files with them. In turn, gnutella will have the same file selection as kazaa. and many gnutella clients allow you to download from multiple sources.
i'm not so sure. intelinux has a ring to it.
We run into another issue because the intel compiler only outputs binaries that run on intel compatible CPUs. no sparc, alpha, mips, powerpc, 68k, etc...
just wondering. how many games on the xbox are actually ported from the pc? i would have to call the dreamcast a PC port machine before the xbox. what is the xbox's PC port/native ratio anyway. it may have a lot of sucky games and not be worth the buy, but get your facts straight.
well, my site is a site dedicated to a game that only runs on windows, so i don't see alot of linux based browsers, and i would imagine most people visiting my site have never even heard of mozilla outside of myself mentioning it. when i posted an article about how i got max payne working on linux, everyone simply laughed and told me to get a "real" computer. i get similar responses when talking about opera or mozilla. "get a real browser".
but the linux version is only up to 6.0. i wonder if the vulnerability even works on linux or if it is windows specific, since they released 6.0 today for linux, and 6.02 for windows.
in a world where 90% of page designers design for IE, opera sure has a hard time, but it seems to be getting better. in the logs for my web site i am noticing that 94% of my users are using ie, 2% netscape, 2% opera, and 2% others. i would guess that the others would be spiders, mozilla, (unless this also is logged as netscape)kmeleon or konqueror. With opera gaining the same usership as netscape, even though it is only 2 % looks like the mark of success for me. although I am pretty much forced to use ie if i want to see pages the way they are meant to be seen, i have toyed around a bit with opera and love the mouse gestures.
exactly how are you supposed to record a movie with a laptop? oh maybe it has a camera. with that logic you should not be allowed to wear clothes to the theatre because you can conceal a camera inside them. actually that is not a bad policy. i think i am going to head down to the local theatre now and convince them to institute this rule for those rampantly pirated teen/college films.:P
the people that buy macs when there may be a cheaper solution out there have always opted to spend extra on macs. why not now? many mac shops just want to run all macs. When OSX developer releases first showed up i got myself a mac so i could get used to it. i already had a unix background so melding those 2 talents together got me an easy job as a sysadmin in the print industry.
Lots of places would choose mac servers over x86 simply because they are made by appls, and over the years when macs were not so great at cross platform networking they were using mac fileservers. now with the advent of tcp/ip everywhere, oprettym uch any OS could do it, but they are so used to using macs that they just eat the expense so they can "stay with what they know"
the guys that sign the checks are more comfortable buying products from microsoft or apple than using free products developed by a bunch of hackers on the net. of course that is exactly what darwin is, but they don't know that. they see a major corporation selling these machines with osx.
the ratings are used to determine advertising rates. if ratings are high but no one looks at the lads, then they can not accurately determine what the blocks of advertising are worth.
Said shorter, the ratings don't matter if no one watches the ads to begin with.
hmm, a worldwide computer network that allows business, academic, and home users communicate and transfer data. WOW, where do I sign up to the amazingly new service?
I do not see the relation to Lain. Lain is possibly the best anime ever made, and it covers a large worldwide network that allows for communication, but Lain is a science fiction story about moving your conciousness into that network, and having the network hardwired into your conciousness by transitting it as waves that are compatible with the human brain.
I am not in support of these pseudo-cds at all, however no damage occurs at all. Sure the computer acts funny while the disc is in the drive and may noy start if the disc is in the drive, but it starts working normally again after it has been ejected.
They do not claim to be a compact disc either. Look closely at the disc, do you see the "Compact Disc" logo on it? It is compatible with some compact disc plyers but does not claim to be a compact disc in any way.
that is a limitation of the games, not the server themselves. most games hardcode a limit of 32 players
however tivo will only record the promos when in "doing nothing" mode. when you are pausing live tv, tivo is no longer in "doing nothing mode"
if you pause it it starts recording what you were watching. you stated yourself that it will not record the promo if you are already recording something...

it would be unfortunate that if i were to make some copyrighted material in the US and then be forced to move to taiwan.

Could this be the end for the upstart MP3 indexing service that changed everything?
I thought it ended a long time ago. we already knew it wasn't going to come back in any way shape or form like the good ol' napster.

12 years and still kicking for a video game console is not long term? the only other machine to do it was the gameboy.

I suppose I could have posted the larger screenshot instead. Here.
Look closely at the lower right corner of this screenshot. This is the one without the 16xFAA too. Pretty disappointing really.
Here is the screenshot from 3DMark 2001.
For those too lazy to look it shows a paltry 3 FPS.
