I doubt microsoft loses money on the xbox anymore. The parts inside the xbox and the cost of manufacturing are most likely even, or lower than the MSRP of the xbox.
Sony will not lose $494 on every PS3 sold forever. Eventually the prices for the parts that go into the PS3 will go downand before the end of PS3 production they will be able to make a profit.

wasn't the Commodore VIC-20 available for $300 when brand new? You could buy it off the shelf at May D&F. I still have mine. Hooked it up a few months ago, dialed into a shell account with victerm using my 300 baud vicmodem with manual dial and looked at slashdot on lynx:)

ever heard of VPN for the intranet? with so many companies jumping on the web application bandwagon many applications require connectivity to the web server.

I can't see many people forking over that much for a memory stick when the legit copies of the games are that much cheaper.
I can buy every game currently available and all games that will ever come out for the PSP for a total price of $200?
$200 for every game currently released and every game to be released in the future is quite a bargain. sure you can only have 1 game on the memory stick at once, but you can have an entire library of games on your hard drive that you can copy onto the memory stick one at a time.
not that i would pirate software... no way... not me...
the government mandate is for DIGITAL broadcast. it has nothing to do with HDTV. there are digital over the air broadcasts of SD content as well, and the government mandate says that all TVs made after January 2006 must be capable of recieving Digital ATSC over air signals, and that all over the air broadcast networks start broadcasting digital ATSC signals.
