So a slow web service that charges full price for low bit rate Mp3 files of artists I've never heard of? I tried searching for a few songs and groups and got nothing. I'm all for alternitive groups getting a place to sell music, but I dont think they should be charging as much.
"Why isn't there a standard format that can be adhered to so that a DVD RW here is a DVD RW there?"
Who gets to set the standards? There are several groups, each of which think that their system is the best. Why should all but one group be excluded? Why not just let the market decide what the 'standard' is?
"an ipod killer would have to be cheaper than an ipod."
No, it just has to offer better value. For me my USB pen MP3 player is an iPod killer since it offers more of what I want for a better price. I dont WANT to carry around more music then I can listen to. I also dont want a player with moving parts.
"...but the dialog was, for the most part, dopey."
What are you talking about, "this is UNIX, I know this" was one of the best comedic lines ever written. I laughed so hard I was thrown out of the theater.
In other news, engineers are working on wrapping Orson Welles body in copper wire as a means to harness the energy generated by him spinning in his grave.
What we'd end up with would be about ten diferent projects, each of which does about one tenth what DirectX does. Then the project members would fight over which of the ten is the best and which one the other nine should be rolled into.
Life after the video game crash was hard at first, there where many times I felt like giving into the despair and reading a book. Then I found the reset switch, and all was well again.
I use mp3search.ru. They have a deal with the Russian equivalent of the RIAA, so these downloads SHOULD be legal where ever you are. They tend to have the CDs we in the US pay more for because there "imports". Lots of B side selections and remixes. Downloads are around 10 cents a song.

Apple sets the selling price. Thats why every place that sells apples stuff does so at the same price. They can give you bonus deals, but the base price is fixed or you lose your apple reseller license. This is also what put all the third party apple stores out of business since they where forbiden from selling for less then the apple owned stores. Because of this, most apple products are purchased direct from apple and those that are not have their prices set by apple.
There are some strange and restive laws out there. You should never just release a product and hope for the best. Especially something that makes money of off copywriten material. While you and I may disagree with the law, its still the law in france and Apple needed to have abided by it.
I just dont want to pay .99 for a group I've never heard. Seems like I could end up with a lot of banjo-punk-rock that way.

So answer the question. Why gets to decide what the standard is and why should one group get total control over the market?

I have a RF transmitter hooked up to my nuts. I've not had one server outage since the first one two years ago.

Tired arms I can deal with, its the crotch splinters which are the real problem.
At last, a hard drive thats also a suppository. Just what we need after a few too many rounds of Guinness.
I'm still beta testing them.
I can see GM doing a robotic nose flute or kazoo.
Wouldn't that fall under standard copyright law? If you are using an image I made without my consent thats illegal.
Or you could just go out of business right away and save time.
Can't it be both?

Bah, they should have used the nipple scene from Spider Man. The rest of the movie was a total wash.
Unless the foreign country shares IP laws with where you are there is nothing you can do.
