    OEMs can and do sell directly to the consumer. However, most consumers are unwilling to pay the price of a phone without a carrier brand/lock. 849$ for an unlocked iPhone 4S with maximum storage direct from Apples store. Same kind of "deals" can be had for many Android phones, but most makers dont have an online store. Bottom line, without the carrier subsidy most people just dont want the things.

    Vulgar insults that make you look like a child aside. My first generation Motorola Drioid has also gotten updated frequently, its all in what you buy. Oh, and hows Siri running on your 3GS? Don't pretend that Apple doesn't try to get people to upgrade perfectly usable phones.

    So having a phone that is so tightly integrated into the service holds no interest for me. Same reason I wont get another Motorola Android phone.

    When a new string of lights costs two dollars, its kind of hard to justify buying replacement bulbs or repair tools. But then I use LED christmas lights and have yet to have one of them go bad.

    They would not be the first Android phone to not use Googles services, hell Motorola replaced the Google services with Yahoo on some of their phones. That does not mean that it is a code fork. So what specifically is different about the OS, other then the non-Google bundled apps?

    I just soldered a bunch of three color blinking LEDs to some watch batteries and threw them at my tree. Actually turned out rather nice.
