"We don't put HTTP servers in the kernel." Umm, khttpd is pretty much an http server in the kernel. But more on topic, what a pain in the ass it would be to have to install and maintain yet another network server. I'd rather just have it in the kernel personally. If I really had a problem with it, I'd take it out. That's the beauty of Linux.

When I'm in San Francisco I never take advantage of the wireless access from my ISP, or a pay service. All I have to do is run kismet, and pick an AP with a default SSID. It's usually an SBC DSL line or Comcast cable. Plenty fast, and probably illegal. I just SSH to my house where I'm running tor or a SOCKS proxy and just forward the port. Encrypted web browsing with decent speed pretty much anywhere. I've been successful in this endeavour in pretty much every San Francisco Bay Area city I've tried this is too. At this point, there's no point in paying for WiFi.

Link level security is fairly useless. It's fine for the average user, but the average user doesn't know how to turn it on. It would be great if there was some kind of auto-negotiated application layer security. Like IPSeC that has the user transport a USB dongle with the keys or something. This is just frivilous.

Also, one time I realeased the smoke from a Pentum once. Too bad it didn't work. But it did lead me to one conclusion. Everything electrical runs on smoke. Pretty damn simple, it works with the smoke in, but when you release it, it breaks. So, I and some others conject that everything electrical runs on smoke.

  11. 47 GHz EME on Operation Moon Bounce · · Score: 5, Interesting

At my local ham radio club, a guy just gave a talk about how he is attempting to implement a 47 GHz EME system. Is is interesting because of the technical challenges. Only a few other people actually operate 47 GHz stations. The travelling wave tube that most use was originally used for military work, for a project called Milstar. Interesting that at the time none of the traffic was coded to their satellites because it was considered intristically safe because it would be very hard to build a station for it.

Some operators do use voice, but have to use big time QRO (high power) stations because the path losses are so huge. Then with new DSP methods, voice communications can definetly work.
