What's it like to work at the Umbrella Corporation, anyway?;-) (j/k)
We bust our hump trying to cure everything from osteoporosis to AIDS and you sit there smugly alleging that we're either holding back cures or not trying to make them? You're a fool. Everyone I work with spends every minute of the work day and most of our weekends trying to develop treatments AND CURES for ungrateful dickheads like you. And we don't do it for the money, which pays the bills but isn't that great, trust me.
So you are telling me that upper management would NEVER bury an R&D breakthrough that upper mangement thought would hurt their profits?
I bet that breakthrough would get "lost" really quick.
I'm not belittling you, or your coworkers, but when the people who only see numbers start making decisions the bottom line is everything.
I think you meant to say "That is assuming they release any"
I, for one, can see a drug company not releasing something that was "unprofitable", just as any other company would do. You don't stay in business releasing unprofitable products, do you?
Much to our disappointment, companies like Lindows and the other "easy to use" distros are trying to convert those windows users
If you think this through a bit farther, you won't be too disappointed at all.
Lindows still has a linux kernel, right? It's still linux? If we swell our numbers with enough of those windows users, Linux might actually get more native development for games/apps from manufacturers.
Since you'll still have versions of linux that are not dumbed down, I fail too see how having more native games/apps available is a "disappointment".
As Rick the Red said, the go button is off in 1.0 for Windows, as well as 1.1 and 1.2. I'm using Mozilla 1.2a
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.2a) Gecko/20020910
I want to add something to the effect that we'd rather look at 50 pairs of store bought boobs and only choose between 1 pair of corporate owned boobs. I just need to word it right...
You're already using the keyboard to copy (Ctrl-C) and paste (Ctrl-V)...why would you want to switch back to the mouse to click a stupid button when Enter is faster?
I surf over lunch. Left hand food, right hand mouse. I lean away from the keyboard so as not to get particles in it.:-)
So, generally, I use right click and copy or paste from that menu. If I type in a URL, I just hit enter, but with a mouse the go button is really handy.
IE's Go button is a misfeature thrown in to appease the AOLers who wouldn't know what to do without it
I've never used AOL, it started with the university access at school and moved to broadband at home. The Go button might not suit your needs, but there are other people who like it.
I'm a fan of open source, but if open source REALLY wants to gain dominance, the software is going to have to have features that the masses are used to: even if the hardcore geeks would never use them.
It's an HP Brio P2-333. We have quite a few of them here, and they all do this.
We have put active CPU coolers on many of them, and that has done the trick. We also addes 8cm fans to the case.
Mine is on an open desktop, getting plenty of air. I am not allowed to so much as crack the case without permission. I've got an active fan coming, but it's gotta go through "channels".:-/
As for your conspiracy theory, there is a thing called passive cooling. There is another fan in the box, and if there is enough airflow through the case, it should be fine.
Ya, the HP desktop I'm forced to use at work uses passive cooling on the CPU.
The P.O.S. locks up every day due to overheating. Some f%^&ing cooling system. Give me a noisy fan and the resulting stable hardware anyday, thanks.:-)
People expect consoles to be dependable, I don't think a crashing console will be tolerated as well as a crashing PC is. MS needs to rethink this one. Is a $0.50 USD fan per unit worth the PR hit from a console that locks up? Especially when MS is trying to establish themselves in the console market...
is the lack of the "go button" from IE. I use Mozilla, love the tabbed browsing, but when I cut and paste the URL I'd rather have a convenient button to click instead of having to hit enter.
I'm pretty new, though, so maybe there is a config I'm missing to shut off the search button and replace it with GO.
Some harley owners have more than one bike or car.
With the astounding dependability of Harleys, they NEED to.:-)
I think the real bike collectors are more centered on the true oddities: old Nortons, Triumphs, original Harley singles, Moto-Guzzis, classic BMW, etc... They guys that collect Harleys tend to fixate on Harleys, and they are Harley guys all the way.
A sportsbike will do 0-60 in under 3 seconds.This thing takes 6.
I know, this thing is slower than a Harley. And that is SLOW. It's light, and will corner well, but people don't like anything smaller than a 600 here (unfortunately).
The fact is, if they market it as a sportbike, it will fail miserably. If they market it as an efficient commuter vehicle, it just might do ok in some areas of the country. Noone up north will buy one, up here the season is so short bikes are just toys like jet-skis. However, in the south I can see the advantages to having one of these, especially if gas goes up in price again.
Well, I'll be the first to admit that the community was divided about this, but most of what I read was by people who cared. Then again, people who didn't care probably didn't care enough to post about it, either.
I do not know how many people ran the BNETD software, but if it was that few I don't think da BLiz would have bothered with it.:-)
I'm weak, I'll admit it, I bought WC3. Now I regret it, though, 'cause the game bites and I still need to contribute $50 to the FSGS/bnetd defense fund to even it out.
I understand your point, and appreciate your closing humor. I'd thought of doing that, myself. The thing is, for every one evolution that takes (such as dropping Shakespearean English), there are thousands (or more) that do not.
Language needs to evolve, there is no doubt about it. Every day we are adding new words in the technology areas alone. The only thing you can do is learn the most commonly used dialect of the language you have. After all, we are not all speaking hillbilly, are we?:-)
Therefore, the idea of 'proper" English is still the one I proposed: it is the one that the majority of society speaks. Yes, there is a southern drawl, and the Bronx accent, and whatever the heck they do in Alaska (I'm f-f-f-f-frrreeeezzinngg!!!) ???). But all these groups are still easily intelligible to each other, and that is the distinction. I think someone speaking ebonics or cajun has a communication gap as opposed to someone that just speaks a local dialect, since it is a much more radical departure fron the average. Nationwide TV ads want to reach as many people as possible. how many of those are aired in "ghettoese"?
I'm not too white, too insecure, or too narrowminded: I'm just being realistic, and speaking from experience and personal observations.
And while you may not like the DMCA, it is the law and must be obeyed.
Bnetd does NOT violate the DMCA since it's priamry purpose is not circumvention. In fact, Blizzard has dropped all mention of it from their suit, IIRC.
I have both TA and SC. I honestly like SC better, it feels more polished and balanced. The sequential commands/waypoints definitely worked better in TA though.
But I've never had any troubles with battle.net, whether I'm planning to play with a group of people, or just trolling for random matches.
I've had my share, but I know people in Australia, for example, who could barely play because Battle.net was so bad for them. And if I am playing with people from my hometown who have wives/kids and can't leave the house at a whim, it's better and faster to have a local server.
Is it that people have some problem with non-Windows platforms? The reason I ask is that I have used battle.net on and off for several years. I've never had any troubles except lag, which was fixed when I got cable. I've used it on a variety of computers with different processors.
I've only ever run it on windows, and I've never noticed a problem on AMD/Intel specifically. I know there are days when it is just plain slow...
So what's wrong with the good old B.n then?
No private ladders, no permanent private rooms, lots of smeghead kiddies who like to ruin the game for everyone else... I don't care how hard Blizzard tries, they will NEVER police it as well as a private server.
Not trying to flamebait, I meanthe question honestly
I know, or I wouldn't have taken the time to reply to you.:-) If you want to play SC sometime on a private server to find out what it's like, email me @ questingknightfig at hotmail dot com.

In 1972, he invited Long Island mother Ronnie Lamb to bring her message to his show and launch her campaign to ban video games.
WTF was the violent video game in 1972? Death pong?
Did her Little Tommy kill somebody with a ping pong paddle? This is just silly.
Resume Tips For Jobs
Here I was, thinking Steve had quit and needed help on his resume!
I had so many good suggestions, too!
I'll stick to cords for now, thank you.
Interesting program. Got a linkie?
If you think this through a bit farther, you won't be too disappointed at all.

No trolls here. Move along.

(I hate to be mean, but did you actually look for that at all? I mean it's in the first pane that's selected in the Preferences dialog...)
I looked, but I looked right through it I guess. Never really caught that's what it was for.
I'm a recovering IE user, I'm just not used to having the option to configure stuff like that. Now I know...
I'll try it at home, though. Thanks!
Thanks, I didn't even see that.
Like I said, I'm a n00b. But at least I'm trying! :-)
Thinking about it, it seems to me that the go button being on by default would make it easier for the n00bs like me who are fresh from IE.
Ya, the HP desktop I'm forced to use at work uses passive cooling on the CPU.

Not 100%, but I'd say it is the trend.

I'd say you are correct, I still like Starcraft better than WC3 by a long shot. WC3 is pretty, but SC is actually a good game.
Still, if that is the reason, I'd rather have 2D graphics and good gameplay than pretty graphics with crappy gameplay.
Am I alone in this?
I do not know how many people ran the BNETD software, but if it was that few I don't think da BLiz would have bothered with it. :-)
