It has been reported that Amazon was giving a 70/30 for exclusive e-publishing rights, and 50/50 if other e-publishers are allow to publish the books. If you switch from 70/30 to 50/50, your price goes from $10 to $15...
It has also been reported that Apple is giving 70/30 no matter what... My guess, the publisher wants their $7... And amazon is switching from $10 to $15 because they aren't exclusive anymore.

And what happens if the EU ignores it's own fair-competition rules and tries to block the sale for political purposes?
Mod parent up.. The earth's climate is a control system. As it becomes unstable, you will start seeing more records: cold, hot, rain, drought, record single day temperature differentials, etc.
It's not going to just get warmer over short time periods.. It always amazes me that folks don't realize that.
The best long term option is to teer electricity pricing so that high users will be encouraged to be more power efficient. i.e. long term, we should be encouraging people to use less electricity, not keep building more.
From there, distribute electrical generation to supplement the current supply. How many houses in AZ could you put high quality solar panels on for the cost to build 1 nuclear reactor.
Yes, they aren't usable all the time. Yes, we don't have a great way to store excess energy *yet*. But it's time to start moving in that direction. It's not a short term solution, but it is part of the long term solution.
Utilities need to move to peer-to-peer. Power to the people!:-)
yes, and the study also says it's the actual conversation. Doesn't matter if you are talking to a passenger or on a cell phone.
It's pretty common sense. Having two hands available is better than having one. Paying attention while your driving is better than not paying attention.
You would think folks would be smart enough to cut through all the BS and bogus headlines meant to grab eyes, not convey factual informaton.
> Imagine what will happen once all phone conversations could be preserved.
If it is not already being done, it's only a matter of time until all phone conversations are recorded and kept for as long as they can until they need to re-use the storage. They can get a court order and be able to go through your phone conversations. If they tape, but do not listen, is it illegal (I have no idea)?
I would imagine in the farther future voice to text functionality with some google like search interface.
No matter if you on a phone, cell phone, IM or e-mail, you should always treat the conversation like someone is listening. It's a good habit to get into.
Does the phone still ring if it's sleeping? If not, it's not intuitive that it would be checking e-mail. I would expect that if sleep shuts off the phone, it shuts off the phone from accessing the internet too.
You forget, Apple is leveraging decades of ideas in cell phone technology for their product that they never thought of. Sure they have a lot of great new ideas, but I don't see other folks using their ideas as stealing. No more than I see Apple building a cell phone as stealing.
hmmm, Looks good, BUT.. I could care less about the 3G data side. If I can get basic phone service, and check my e-mail, browse the web, and use ichat (including jabber) using the built in wi-fi, i'll but one.
Global warming is over simplfying the problem. The Earth's environment is a control system. I think it is more acurate to say we are seeing more climate instability. Hopefully it won't get to the point were it becomes unstable.
OpenOffice is GPL. Different licenses for different products. There isn't one license to rule them all. I don't see why JRuby wouldn't be GPL given Sun's (my employer) past history.
Having Office available didn't help Apple make it in the corporate world. I expect you would see the same bug ridden, slightly behind version that you see on Mac OS.
> but representative of a greater movement and can't be argued > away simply by madness.
Hmm, maybe you've forgotten about the Nazi thing..
Of course, the real rub is that we (the US) are responsible for giving these folks any power... It's kind of ironic.. Sad, but ironic..
For references, look at how/why the Iranian fundamentalist movement came into power, how we backed and trained these same terrorists against the Russians during the cold war, and how the first war in Iraq trigger our current events..
I would say more, but I don't want it to go on my permanent file:-)
Dump the OS, dump the display, give me 1-2 wired NICs, and a serial port, TV out, and I've got a nice little box to replace my mini-itx box... Lets hope a bunch of folks buy these to drive down the price of the H/W for the rest of us. Then you'll what this H/W can really be useful for..
If they did, it would be to enter the cell phone H/W market. That's where the iPod Nano is heading in the future IMO. It has nothing to do with palmOS since that's a different company these days...

DISCLAIMER: I work for sun.. Know nothing about the cat fight though
No mail, maps, etc? All that S/W already exists,
Why wouldn't they include them? I was hoping for those
plus iChat.
I wondering if they are going to make you buy those
after the fact?

Nothing to see here, please move along to the next topic..
Sarbanes-Oxley is the "Weapons of Mass Destruction" phrase for IT. If they were serious about securing their network, they would have windows clients.

Because once it becomes easy to distribute movies, why do you need
the Studio's again?

I bet you a pair of $50K-a-pop Meyer studio mains that I can't :-)

This is correct.
immature commercial software is doomed in an enterprise environment
This is also correct... So what we have here, is FUD
What??? Brad is mad at Angelina? When did that happen??
If they did, it would be to enter the cell phone H/W market. That's where the iPod Nano is heading in the future IMO. It has nothing to do with palmOS since that's a different company these days...
