I like how someone claims that ignorant people (esp. Americans) get their information from a board game, and then corroborates it by linking to Seinfeld.
many scientists believe federal funding will soon become available for embryonic stem cell research on new cell lines, resulting in additional similar studies.
If you aren't hearing about them, and the public controversies surrounding a few of the most significant ones in each Congress, its because you aren't paying attention.
I do know they propose them. I'm talking about the rate at which they actually pass or make a difference in society. There is nothing more a politician enjoys than make a meaningless gesture which they know will go nowhere. When I say "no one mentions them" I mean we saw more eyes on a parade yesterday than have considered amendments in the last decade.
I realize people have been ignoring it since day 1. It's just snowballed far out of control.
So let me get this straight. No one amends the Constitution, they simply ignore it, because it's too hard to change, which is by design? So it's designed to be hard so that it's ignored? Well, thank god it works at least.
This still doesn't explain why amendments aren't sought for extensions of Federal power that would not have initially been tolerated.
Would you prefer a completely unregulated economy? Let me tell you, that didn't work out so well last time we tried
When did we last try a completely unregulated economy? And the choice isn't either/or as you suggest either. The choice is maintaining freedom of choice (no monopolies or force) and letting cycles take their course.
This has two effect: that part of the document is neutered by the rerouting and the document becomes more distant to current realities instead of being amended in a sufficient manner - so that once it's proposed to follow it, the old interpretation seems "quaint" and out-of-touch.
Spot on. Have you noticed how no one even bothers mentioning Constitutional amendments anymore? They don't have to. No one cares on either side.
What enthusiast that spends big dollars on the latest cards uses their card for more than a year?
Paid $400 for an 8800 GTX well over a year ago, wish I would have caught the 8800 GTSs. But anyways, I plan to keep it for more at least another 12 months. We'll see what's out then.
It's not like DVDs killed cable or Tivo killed DVDs. One is good for one thing, which is satisfying an immediate demand to watch something, while the other is good for getting a higher-quality experience, with the potential for long term ownership.
I know the PS3 is expensive but, come on, a palace joke?
I think he is referring to the PS2 vs any next generation console. Compared to all the next generation consoles the PS2 is significantly cheaper in both hardware and games. While the PS3 has dropped 33% and the 360 has a stripped down $200 box and the Wii is still $250, the price is still way higher than the previous generation in TCO.
I never realised you could play games on it. Learn something new every day.
You should check out what you're missing. The library has matured and is, well, just there. I can't keep up with the new releases I'm interested in playing at the moment. If you're on a decent screen the experience should be amazing.
I'm curious if this includes time on the actual console or if backwards compatibility is counted? If I play PS2 on PS3 or Gamecube on Wii does that go to PS2 or Gamecube?
** Video Game Consoles - REALLY bad example here. XBOX may have done well this Christmas season compared to PS3, but what about the BILLION DOLLAR loss on the infamous quality control problems? They have lost a lot of credibility in the market. Kids don't care too much since they can just scream till the parents get one, but there are LEGIONS of PARENTS that are -* *- this close to raiding MS with pitch forks and torches. I know plenty of parents who asked me my opinion in the last 3 years and I flat out told them to buy any other console. It had a better chance of actually surviving six months. Don't get me wrong, I love the XBOX 360 and the games on it. I just know how likely it was that I would be using the phone to get an RMA. That's frustrating and bad for Microsoft.
It's also pretty clear that long term the XBOX isn't going anywhere. It had a game edge for awhile. That's gone. It still has manufacturing problems. It now has a price edge (important in this economy) but that won't last either. In the long run the PS3 is the much better value to own.
For that imminent future of everybody doing hi-def downloads...
Because George Bush managed to fuck up the great economy Clinton left him with
You do recall the dot-com crash in 2000, right? Bush wasn't in office until 2001.

Oh my sweet irony.
Write down the event now, while it's still fresh.
And make sure to not let anyone steal it!
We were never going to get a candidate elected who agreed with us on everything.
Especially if we didn't vote for one. Or, barring that, run yourself.
That may be true, but that's not what I was quoting.
many scientists believe federal funding will soon become available for embryonic stem cell research on new cell lines, resulting in additional similar studies.
Sounds great, but, ummm, aren't we already broke?

Yeah, go ahead and hold your breath on all those.
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
The tax structure could be as simple and fair as possible, corporations would still find ways not to pay it, just due to sheer greed.
Try consumption taxes rather than income taxes.
I was against the bailout to begin with, but this is silly.
We give them money, then they are supposed to give it back?
Is this so Hank Paulson and some IRS agent can siphon some off to keep their jobs?

Can we throw away the idea of a "throw away society"?
To stop hating Sony yet?
It didn't really seem that sensitive and the lag really bugged me.
Since my side is completely blameless and your side is the obvious aggressor.

They go hand in hand, not against each other.

From a coding/QA standpoint, one has to wonder how this bug was missed if the quality assurance team wasn't slacking off.
MSFT's QA team hasn't been slacking off. They haven't slacked on since about the mid 90s.
