Hell, *I* use Linux and dislike SCO, but this is just a tad unprofessional. OK, I'm kinda disgusted by this behavior - it destroys a moral "high ground" that might be useful to have shortly.
That's probably exactly why SCO is faking this DDoS attack.
No project manager = no enforced schedule + no well defined scope + no detailed development guides + no moderator of disputes.
I think the point is that anyone can be a project manager. Or do you believe that unless programmers were baby-sat they'd just wander off to the cafeteria?
Our project manager has so little to do, she actually has a second title and a second set of duties that take up most of her day.
So it's no wonder that most of the replies indicate that writing a few lines of Perl (or C++ for the really advanced) is "higher level work" than managing all of the business/marketing/technical aspects of a project and/or product.
90% of all projects consist solely of a few lines of Perl.
The only jobs threatened with outsourcing are the exact same jobs that are "threatened" with opensourcing.
Most programming jobs are a combination of project management and programming. It consists of dozens of small week-long projects that can be handled by no more than 3 people.
Ever hear of a SQL programmer job moving to india? Nope, because it'd be impossible to manage.
I thought the subliminal message being projected by that ad was funny
Actually, my favorite subliminal messages are the TV spots run by MS with everyone dancing and celebrating because they just consolidated a bunch of servers and it's going to "save them millions each year".
The only way they're saving money each year is because their new setup doesn't require as many admins as their previous set up. So those people are dancing because they're all fired.
Also, not everyone has tons of family to fill up all that time. So tell me, when is it acceptable to go play some games? December 27th? Jan 2nd?
My family was always in the kitchen making dinner etc, so there was definately time for the kids to go play games etc.
Although now it's even better. My wife and I go to one set of parents on the 24th, open presents, then go home, open presents, then on the 25th drive up to the other set of parents and open even more presents.
90% of my presents are still video games after all these years. I'm banned from buying any games for myself starting november... which sucks because I really want to play Prince of Persia.
well, considering my past experience with cd burners, spending $100 on a dvd burner that's going to die in 3 years is better than spending $400 on a dvd burner that's going to die in the same amount of time.
Pro-MACs on my left, pro-PCs on my right.
I'm Stuck in the Middle with you.
Yes I'm stuck in the middle with Linux.
If the media check gives ANY result, you're running it from a burner and therefore it fails the protection.
That's not a very good idea. Most new computers *only* have a cdburner.
So no matter what, you aren't going to buy a game? I have a feeling you never did.
I own Splinter Cell. I will NOT be owning Splinter Cell 2.

Please let it be Jar Jar, and as revenge for inflicting him on us in the first movie, let it be by explosive decompression.
Or explosive diarrhea
Sure, MD5 strings are a little longer, but still (I'm pretty sure) less than 80 characters.
md5 strings are 32 characters. And most linux distros use md5 for their shadow files already.
I'm just waiting for the Spam Control Transmission Protocol.
3y3 c4n und3rs74nd d3m.
The Basement/garage Electronics inventor Also has the abilities/tools available..
Yup, and it has always been this way. Gateway, Dell, and HP all got their start as a couple of guys building computers in barns/garages/sheds.
Big companies like Oracle. Not like Microsoft.
Yeah, like that Fulltext search feature which allows you to quickly search a database and get relevancy ratings.
Oh wait, that was Mysql.

And *managing* projects (comprised of skilled - intelligent - IT folk) ..is very difficult?
Have you ever used MS Project? hehe

if I was an employer, the fact that someone had actually completed something like this would be a big point towards me hiring them
Only if you were going to hire them to build shit with lego.
An obsession like that has got to distract them from working.

Goes to show that united geeks carry weight.
Are you saying I'm fat?!

I still have my 3c59x from 1995 when I had my broadband .edu access... poor little half-duplex piece of crap.
Anyone remember that site that listed all 200 websites in existance?
Just don't allow cookies. (Yes, it seems too simple)
If by "fix" you mean "break a lot of functionality on sites" then yes, that certainly is an option.
I'm sure there's something similar a little closer.. they were just two examples of 5cent arcades.
If anyone knows where a working Mr. Do! is within 100 miles of Dallas
There's a coffee house in Tucson with a tabletop Mr Do.. so whenever you're driving by on your way to california or something you can stop by.. hehe
Many good arcades (the ones that are left) have entire rows for $0.25 a play.
Find the closest Wunderland or Nickel City. It costs $2 to get in, and 1/4th the games are 5 cents, 1/4th are 10 cents, and the rest are free!
that said tho, the new galaga versions kick ass, faster play, faster shooting, tasty graphics while maintaining the flat-down perspective.
It's also available on the Namco Museum for $15.. great buy.
