I can't explain it other than saying that there is a design quality and esthetic that is different in the Apple products. You won't believe it until you own one, but once you do, you understand the price difference, and realize it is negligible.
No, I think it's more like pretty much every apple user has rose colored glasses. Just look at the thread about the pops in the newest iPod.. all the responses are "oh, it's no big deal.. i can barely hear it"
If you swap out Apple iPod with Nomad Zen in that article, there would be tons of Apple fans would be berating the Zen for sucking.
I have an Apple Pro keyboard (black keys on a white/translucent base). It's a nice keyboard, except the craftmanship is crap. Keys have a tendency to repeat themselves, especially the C and the D keys (so instead of "cd.." i type "cdd..") I paid $70 for this keyboard, and it shouldn't have this problem. Apple won't replace it because it isn't broken it just sticks from time to time. (The keys don't physically stick, it's a known timing issue in the keyboard controller)
I'm not the only one with this problem, a bunch of my coworkers have it too.
Apple users tend to be just as blind to product problems as windows users are to the need to reboot.
Remember that Apple are rumoured to be working on a version of iTunes for Windows. Yes, it's only a rumour, but Apple is always concerned about the whole user experience
Yeah, that's why quicktime on windows is such a wonderful, well thought out application... oh wait, no it's not.. it's a steaming pile of shit.
You ever think that Apple might do the right thing, fess up to the problem and fix it for free to anyone who's effected?
Judging from past experiences, no.
They certainly didn't do that for the *thousands* of faulty Airports. They put underrated capacitors in the airports, causing them to stop working.. did apple fix everyone's airport? Or did we all have to read that tutorial on how to replace the capacitor (requiring soldering, and cutting out some space out of the airport to fit the larger, correct capacitor)
I almost deliberately turned into the back of this person coming out of their driveway because I was in an almost hypnotic state, thinking of the game.
It's a good thing I play games that require weapons I don't have access to. In Enemy Territory, if someone was being a dick or annoying, I would toss a grenade at them...
Far too often I'd have an annoying neighbor or something, and I'd be waiting for them all to stand close to each other so I could toss a grenade through their window and get all 3 of them.
A lot of places have been talking about how cool the game is but IMHO, based upon looking at the screenshots and the video clips on TechTV, the game looks like it was made about 2 years ago.
Well those shots are all from the PS2 version, which is by far the shittiest of the 3 versions. I'm more interested in screenshots from the GC or PC versions.
You can punch that in the about:config screen to test it out.
It'll cause their screen size calculator to fail, and the popup will fail as well. If you wish to turn it back on: set it to allAccess instead of noAccess (you can also set it to sameSite).
I haven't found a way to override screen.width to be a specific size (which would help a lot).. but maybe someone else knows.
Then that's the full package, sir. Going rate-$15.98
Wrong, the going rate is $12.75 That's the average CD price in the US.
So by getting rid of some audio quality, the jewel case, the media, the printed liner notes, the artwork, you've saved $2.75.. woo, revolutionary.. not.
The problem is that a lot of the whiners who say that they'd buy more CDs if they were priced better, or that they'd buy more music if they could buy per track are just lying about it.
Are our mods on crack? No the problem is that this ISN'T priced better.. a buck a song is NO BETTER than what we currently pay when we buy an album at the store. The average album costs $12.50 in the US, the average album has more than 12 songs on it.
Therefore, the average album costs less than a buck a song.
If Microsoft were offering this exact same deal, you'd be bitching too.
1. The file itself is not DRM-encumbered. iTunes places the restrictions on burning, streaming, etc. They are not built into the file in any way. There are plenty of other tools you can use to manipulate the files, because...
You're delusional. It is too built into the file. Purchase a song, then Get Info and it'll have *your* name in it. 'Purchased by So and So, Apple ID: blahblah@blahblah'
Your apple ID and name are buried in the m4p file itself. Try and play that song on a different computer and you get a window asking for your Apple ID password in order to "activate" this computer.
To say this isn't DRM is like saying XP doesn't have DRM.. because this is IDENTICAL to XP's Activation.
Big labels will no longer be able to charge $18 for a Britney Spears CD with, at most, one listenable song on it.
Of course they will.. Your post proves it. Best Buy sells many CDs (Britney included) for $10.. yet there are still plenty of places that charge $18 for the CD.
Why? Because people are stupid and will continue to purchase $18 cds, even though Best Buy has them for $10, and your local music store has them for $8.
The *average* new CD price in the US is $12.50 now... but the fact that everyone here keeps going on about "$15-$20 CDs" proves that you people need to stop shopping at the Mall.
HP gave me a $150 rebate on my PC, and a $50 one for my inkjet. Had to wait 8-10 weeks, but it did come. I've had good luck with rebates...I do remember to include everything that's asked for and not to scribble illegibly. I'm sure the companies that do them know they'll only pay a percentage of them since people forget to send them in, or don't send all the required stuff.
Not only that, but you just loaned HP $200 interest free for 3 months. And HP then somehow made it seem like their paying back that loan was a "generous gift" to you.
Re:rebates are NOT a total waste of time

Are Rebates Scandalous?

I've gone out now 3 years now, and spent over 1500 and gotten 1200 of it back. (and I DO track my rebates).
So what you're telling us is that over the past 3 years you have *loaned* several companies $1200, interest free.. and don't have a problem with that?
AR sued AC for including a MIDI adaptor (i think) with the apple II (i think). AC settled for a large sum and bought out the previous agreement.
Um, no. Apple Records sued Apple Computers because of the Apple][gs. The ][gs contained an Ensoniq synthesizer, making it the most powerful music composer on the market. Part of the agreement was that Apple Computers couldn't ever have a hardware synth solution. This is still true today. Apple Computers didn't buy any rights, and they are still not allowed to enter the record business.
Search the web for "Ensoniq Apple lawsuit" for more information.
I guess this is sort of like the New York branch post offices not delivering mail from Florida, because that's where a lot of junk mail originates from.
Bullshit.
It's more like your city not accepting mail placed in your personal mailbox and forcing you to use the city-provided community mailboxes.
Which most cities are doing these days. Your mail will be delivered to your house, but the mailman won't accept letters from places other than the community's outgoing mail box.
Understand how sugars and starches cause your insulin to surge, and you'll understand why you may have the shakes if you don't get a meal on time.
Oh jesus. I've been hypoglycemic all my life, the shakes you get are because you have low blood sugar! Probably because you stopped eating sugars and starches. Get a glucometer and check your blood sugar.. I'll bet you anything it's below 70 (which is very unhealthy)
Eventually you'll kill yourself.. but hey, then you'll *really* start to lose weight.
I turns out that Dr. Dre isn't even a real doctor!
With a little bit more effort, here's the same links as hyperlinks (no nasty spaces, no cut-and-paste).
That's amazing! Someone should patent this technology. Imagine, just being able to click on a word and have it take you to a different page!
Man am I sad. When I saw the headline I wasn't thinking about folding paper, and I couldn't figure out what it had to do with math.
I dunno, maybe graph the projectile of a fluid?

Thank god for dubiously legal abandonware.

I tried this with Phoenix, and even with all of the Javascript disabled, it STILL opens a big ol' fat window on my screen, full page size.

Here's why, they're using javascript to calculate your screen.width and screen.height and then opening a new window at that size.
Mozilla and Phoenix only allow you to "Prevent scripts from resizing *open* windows".. not prevent them from opening a new window at an annoying size.
Here's how to fix it:

user_pref("capability.policy.defaul

Gulf War 1 & 2
Remember Falcon 3.0? Arguably the best jet combat game ever created.. based on the Gulf War.
TiVo does not do this.
Yes it does.. perhaps you should reword that to "TiVo does not do this, by default"
1. Bring up any recorded program.
2. Punch in SELECT PLAY SELECT 30 SELECT
Boom, now your TiVo will automatically skip ahead 30 seconds (the length of a commercial) whenver you hit the ENTER key.
The only draw back is the ENTER key is the "Last Channel" key normally, so you'll lose that feature. Re enter the code to turn the feature off again.
Neither the article nor any comments mention Activation.
Does Win2k3 have activation? If so, why would anyone downgrade from Win2k?

So let me get this straight,
because your ISP is stupid, you want the rest of the world to suffer along with you.
Sorry.
This will prevent legitimate businesses from conducting business.
Please tell me how a legitimate business conducts business with a mail server assigned to a *dynamic* IP?
You trying to tell me a mail server uses dynip.org for a critical server?
This is an excellent idea, and I think that every ISP should do it. Mailservers on dynamic IPs do not serve a legitimate purpose.
