    in fact I run the first Baldur's Gate on my iBook.

    System requirements for Baldur's Gate:
    Pentium 166
    16 Megs of ram
    DirectX 3.0

    Recommended:
    Pentium 200
    32 Megs of ram
    DirectX 5.0

    Not exactly a glowing portrayal of VPC.

    Is there a revolutionary idea that will justify the two screens? I don't think having the game's score/stats in a different screen or having two cameras available is revolutionary enough.

    In one of their tech demos, they had a game of airhockey going. You used the stylus to play and the puck would go between screens.

    Don't know if anyone considers this "revolutionary" but I consider it "badass".

    I really am sick of sites that require flash to get actual information. It should be part of the usability guidelines of the web that information be required to be in at least format.

    I'm really sick of people bitching about other people's websites.

    I wish Solaris was LSB compliant even though it's not Linux. Here's a good reason for standards:

    There is a killall program on Linux, it kills all processes that have a processname that matches the argument you pass to it.

    There is a killall program on Solaris, it doesn't take any arguments and will kill every process running.

    Apple provides some pretty versatile generic drivers with the OS. If your hardware is somewhat standards based, there's a pretty decent chance it will just work weather it's officially supported or not.

    I don't think you can get more standard than prism2-based 802.11b cards, but no prism2-based pcmcia card I've tried "just works" in OSX. You need to go purchase (that's right, purchase) the Aerocard drivers.

    Aqua is appearance and behavior. To say that it's "pixel based" is meaningless.

    What I mean is that controls are absolutely positioned. Avalon and Gtk and Qt are container based, controls are positioned based on the containers they are in.

    However this often results in a shortage of jurors, so some states (like Washington) pull jurors from the DMV records as well, so unless you don't drive, there's no advantage to not voting.

    I got a speeding ticket once and they misspelled my name on the ticket. Then I got jury duty and my name was misspelled the exact same way. So obviously they used my speeding ticket (because the DMV doesn't misspell my name).

    So I suspect that here in Arizona, Juries are made up of habitual law breakers.

    Gouging? Where? Show me another pre-assembled, pre-configured 1.8ghz 64-bit machine with a similar form factor, 17" widescreen LCD, running at 20-30db - all for $1299.

    Here's one

    Well, the screen is smaller, but it's also thinner and lighter than the iMac G5, has twice the ram, faster video, and integrated wifi.

    Plus the cpu is faster. All for $1149.

    Oh sure, it's a laptop, but I won't hold that against it.

    Actually, I thought I read someplace that the G5 processors don't generate quite as much heat as some of the latest AMD and Intel offerings.

    You read wrong. The AMD 64 chips are the coolest running chips around. Stock CPU heat sink and fan and 0 case fans and my cpu runs at 50 deg C.

    There are those of us who say that Dell's are too expensive as well.

    When Dell starts shipping AMD based machines, then it'd be a valid comparison.

    The last time I installed XP or 2k to a RAID controller, it wouldn't let me tell it about a driver CD.

    This will allow you to make an XP Install CD with drivers (and service packs) already on it.

    That way down the road, when you inevitably need to reinstall XP, you won't need to track down any driver disks.

    Then, it asks me if I need to load drivers from an external source. Having a SATA device, I say "yes".

    This lets you customize your XP CD so that all your drivers are on it already. You can also add SP1 and SP2 and any hotfixes you want.

    I always make an XP cd with all my drivers on it, that way if I need to reinstall 6 months down the road, I don't need to track down driver cds.

    Install Windows XP to a non-southbridge SATA or IDE RAID controller without giving it the driver floppy, I'll believe that they're dead.

    What driver floppy? I haven't seen a motherboard that came with a floppy in like 6 years. My most recent motherboard (SATA/Promise RAID) came with a CD.

    Driver floppy.. hah.

    1. It drives all hardware development. There is no hardware built for SDL or OpenGL or what have you.

    Right... that's why NVidia has said time and time again that they design cards specifically for John Carmack's needs.. and John only uses OpenGL.

    The concept is you're a James Bond Villain and you build your underground lair and defeat all the Secret Agents who try to infiltrate your base.

    Ironic, that Microsoft asks that Apple customers complain of the lack of open standards for the iPod. The same company that will not share it WMA standard

    What are you talking about? WMA is licensable to anyone.. it's even cheaper than licensing AAC from Dolby.

    Look at dialogues such as this and tell me it doesn't look as if they went out of their way to make it look like the Explorer copy/download one.

    Looks exactly like the OSX copy/move dialog box. No reason to be different just for the sake of being different.
