Geez, I must really sound like a troll in that case.
I've seen lots of screenshots and it did look just like linux...a typical redhat desktop or something like that. It certainly didn't look like Swing widgets. What a stupid name and a BAD marketing idea. They should have called it "Sun Linux". (Even though Linux is really just the kernel of course, but still this would SELL).
I can just see there being problems with Java Desktop and people will be totally turned away from the whole idea, including the software which may have nothing to do with Java Desktop, like Evolution. Mark this is flame bait, see if I care.
I haven't been to any meetings yet. All I know is that they want to takeoff before the Jan. 1 2004 deadline and they think they can be the first ones.
They have some new factory space where they plan to assemble the final rocket. The software and electrical aspects are in the planning stages. They are very serious and and after taking some time off at the end of August for holidays they're going to be working hard this Fall and into next year.

Thought I would give you a quick update on the status of works
on the engineering and other related aspects of the project and on
our immediate plans into the Fall of 2003.
First, please notice that X-Prize as we know it right now will
seize to exist on Jan 1st, 2005. So it is essentially "do-or-die"
situation for ALL X-Prize competitors.
Launch date announcement in late 2003? Don't they have to announce the launch 5 months before they launch? So the latest launch announcement date could be in summer 2003 for lunch by the end of the year, when the X-prize expires.
I'm getting 110 kBytes/s now. It took a few minutes. I think more slashdotters are starting to download it as well. At least the file is available. Normally it would be so slashdotted it wouldn't be available at all for at least a few hours. Those I2O videos from a few weeks ago still aren't available, as the company took them offline!
Geez, buddy, calm down. Just leave your window open and calm down. BT relies on everyone doing it at the same time. It's people like you who prevent you from getting good download speeds. Be a good netizen, run BT and leave the window open, and tell others to do the same.
I'm getting just 14 kBytes/s download and 30 kBytes/s upload. Come on people, make sure to leave your bittorrent dialog open after you download it. Share the love!
What quirkiness are you talking about? I've used Word since like Word 1 and I never considered it "quirky". I could understand bloated and feature-crept but not "quirky".
You are right, "quirky" is not the right word. "Flaky" is more appropriate.
You can certainly become popular around the office should you become a whiz at dealing with Word's quirks. I have had many "discreet" encounters with Word-inept, yet beautiful co-workers through these means. After showing them the ins and outs of image placement in Word: anchors, and the magic of paste special... and how to stop images from jumping to the top of the page, they are usually ready to hop on the desk when the office clears. I can say this has truly been a character-building experience for me. Thanks ladies.
I understand your point of view, but from my side of the fence (never touched a gun, don't want to, and would prefer that guns were never invented) it is hard to comprehend.
I guess many people like yourself have become very attached to guns, which is a lot like getting attached to smoking, drugs, fast food, etc.. It's tough pull it away from you.
I don't think Canada would be as gun free as it is if it weren't for the US setting such a bad example. We have such a great "bad" example to the south to not follow. You keep us on the straight and narrow, gun-free path.
Let me ask you this. You think you need a gun for defense, do you think Canada should allow all citizens to carry a firearm for defense? Let's assume that the citizens have no aggressors with which to defend ourselves against (for sake of argument).
Still...my point is the same.
When was the last time the brits posed any risk? The USA is at this very point in time the most behind country in the world, when it comes to government policy. Everyone always jokes that the Brits are backwards because they still use the Imperial system...but the States is a joke; No research on stem cells from embryos, limited abortion, no gay marriage, guns can be bought anywhere, burning oil is at the forefront of energy technology, and finally the Imperial system.
Best of all we don't have one of those stupid "you have the right to protect yourself clauses" which came about when farmers had to keep guns around to keep their black slaves in line.
US Constitution = Long live the 18th century!
Yes, motorcycles are so much better on gas. Especially scooters. If you don't need to go faster than 50 km/h (ie. are making short trips), they are great. You can go a long way on just $2.
His email is howard@princeton.edu if you want to flame him.
I think the developers of the software for that TV show just wanted to appear on slashdot.

What an excellent use of research dollars.
It will still come out faster than any other distro. It will also need to be tested, so unless you have ~x86 flag on you won't be able to get it.
Mod the post I'm replying to UP! This bittorrent link works.

It didn't mention any suggestions on how to remove spam. It didn't mention anything about software like Mozilla or SpamBayes. What a waste of a read.

As far as I know, the contest ends January 2004. So if no one does it before then, the contest is over. Although it could be extended.

By the time I finished that post above, I was getting 150 kBytes/s

I'm getting a much higher download rate now: 110 kBytes/s, it's been building up as soon as I opened up the BT ports on my router.
Thanks for the port forwarding tip... I'm behind a router, and I totally forgot that this might be necessary.

I doubt it. Well, maybe but if you're like me, you have about 100 transactions per month. After a while it gets a bit boring.
