It seems like a lot of trouble to go through just to hope that the computer user is dumb enough to click on your adobe update link. They would probably have better luck if they just joined an advertising network and delivered their malware through an ad.... or sent an email with a spearfishing attack. Heck, if you have a warrant for this through a FISA court, why not then just sneak into the target's house and plant the malware directly?

There is a TOS episode where the computer voice was upgraded to a sexy sounding female. Kirk reprimands the computer, and it sounds noticeably sad. I don't think you can do that with the existing recordings of Majel Barrett.

  4. Bury the Lede on Ask Slashdot: What Are Anonymous Ways To Pay For Goods and Services? · · Score: 1

Because humans have this ability to look at the big picture. AI's only look at what they are supposed to look at.

For example, the first 5 minutes of the movie "WarGames", an airman in a missile silo refuses to turn his key to launch. Why? Because he knows that action will lead to the deaths of thousands of people.

  7. Re:Another Google Project Not Worth The Hype on Netflix Finds x265 20% More Efficient Than VP9 (streamingmedia.com) · · Score: 2

You realize we're comparing a FREE option vs a PAID option. As a business trying to save money here/there, I'd rather go with the free one to be honest.

That's pretty shortsighted, even for a business. If you factor in the bandwidth costs of delivering 20% more data, using the paid CODEC might actually make better financial sense.

  8. Re:Well Good. on ITT Tech Is Officially Closing (gizmodo.com) · · Score: 1

I have seen commercials for ITT Tech over the past 40+ years, but I have never worked with anyone who attended there. Conversely, I attended a Technical Institute that didn't broadcast commercials all the time.

The moral of the story is: Let your curriculum and graduates speak for the school's quality, not a TV commercial.

Their "bladeless" fans are a curiosity, but upon close inspection, there is a fan in the base of it that has, well, blades! I would have been more impressed if it was more like the ionic breeze air filter that uses electricity only to move the air.

Maybe he will succeed at making a breakthrough in battery technology, but if it's like his other products, it will be too expensive. What good is a cell phone battery that lasts all week when it costs $400?
