Exactly. He's a burglar using wifi as an excuse. From Gizmodo, link below...
Police say a couple in their 60s woke up in their Palo Alto, California bedroom around midnight last Saturday to find someone looming above them wearing a mask, or possibly a black T-shirt covering their face. The intruder asked for their wifi password.
According to a city press release, one of the residents sprung to action, shoving the intruder down the hallway and out of the house. The couple then called the police, which found the suspect a block away from the house.
Police arrested the 17-year-old suspect for prowling, residential burglary, and providing false information about his identity. The police department did not reveal his name as he is a minor.
Police think the suspect entered the house from the side yard after cutting open a screen window-covering, but could not initially determine a motive. Officers say they did not find any weapons on the teen, but the resident told police that two kitchen knives had gone missing.
Officers believe this is not the only time the teen trespassed in an apparent search for wifi that evening. Someone else had called 911, reporting that around midnight last Saturday she saw a teenage male in the yard outside her bedroom window, trying to get her attention.
She and a male resident allegedly confronted the intruder, who told them he didn’t have any data left and wanted to use their wifi. They told him to leave. They didn’t call the police until the next day when the male resident noticed his bike was missing from the backyard. Security footage showed the teen had moved the bike to the front yard before going to the window to ask for wifi.
Police later found the bike near where they had arrested the suspect. Officers are recommending the District Attorney add a charge of petty theft.
My earliest memory at 3 years old is of my grandmother chopping the head off a chicken on a tree stump and watching it run around with blood spurting from its neck. I assume we ate chicken that night.
Yes, he is human, and the workload may be getting to him. He's put an awful lot on his plate, juggling many balls in the air. I hope he takes a vay-cay away from his stressors soon, or I'm afraid that he might break. He's a good man who's under a lot of pressure right now. I hope we don't lose him.
If I recall she was not texting but watching a live stream of a talent show on Hulu. (Video in link)
Elaine Herzberg, 49, was killed in Arizona in March after she was struck by an Uber vehicle operating in autonomous mode. The crash prompted investigations by both the National Transportation Safety Board and the National Highway Traffic Safety Association. (Herzberg is believed to be the first person killed by a vehicle operating without a driver.) According to a report from the Tempe Police Department, the driver, Rafaela Vasquez, could have avoided the crash if she had been paying more attention to her surroundings. (Cars operating autonomously have a safety rider in the driver’s seat, like Vasquez, who can throw the vehicle into manual and override the autopilot.) The report also found she had been streaming The Voice on her phone right up until the moment the accident occurred, Reuters reports.
The crash was “deemed entirely avoidable” by the police report. “Vasquez looked up just 0.5 seconds before the crash, after keeping her head down for 5.3 seconds, the Tempe Police report said. Uber’s self-driving Volvo SUV was traveling at just under 44 miles-per-hour,” Reuters also reports. Earlier reports in May attributed the crash to a software problem, citing programming designed to let self-driving vehicles “ignore ‘false positives,’” — like detritus in the road — which errantly registered Herzberg as such. Following the crash, Arizona suspended Uber from conducting any further autonomous tests.
Besides promoting your business and the details of your rather shallow life, what is the point of having it? Coming from a 57 year old guy who knew life before having an online presence was the way to be 'social' (we met with real life people back then), I don't get it. Real life keeps me busy enough. I've seen people get home and go straight to their FB, stare seemingly mindlessly for the next hour at their screens as if it were so damn important. I had FB for a year over 10 years ago and completely deleted my account, since I do enjoy my privacy. Admittedly I am grateful to be clueless as to the appeal of it.
There's been a spamming problem at Ars. On Chrome on windows10 I clicked on "best comments" and got a "Banned for spamming" message and a link to their techs. Told him that I have an Ars account that I haven't signed into in years. I was asked for my IP address which was promptly whitelisted.
Here's a recent column/rant from a long time columnist in the greater NY area. A few years ago he had written a column begging for Uber to be allowed in his area so that he could go out for dinner and get drunk. Well, be careful what you wish for applies here. Uber's been in the area since last June, promptly killing the cash cab business. https://indyeastend.com/news-o...

Negative guy strikes again. That kind of person, "Kill him with kindness." These types never expect it, and their reaction is always priceless.
People appreciate courtesy, who knew?
+1 Funny (if I only had mod points)

Thanks for this post, I posted asking why FB is such a phenomena. You explain it perfectly.

Step One: Profit. There is no Step Two.
So the mirrored Disco Ball is making a comeback!

It's those homogenerous people helping out that really grind my gears.
