Actually the PIM software on the 6000 isnt bad at all, but its still not as good as my old Handspring (PalmOS 3)

But considering the other benefits of the Sl-6000 over other pda's I think its well worth the tradeoff.

  4. Re:I don't know about all that... on HP iPAQ hx4705 Reviewed · · Score: 4, Interesting

I'll stick to my Zaurus SL-6000 its only got a 400mhz processor, and no bluetooth. But I dont use bluetooth and its already running linux.

Not to mention its ruggedized (Desigined to withstand 1 meter fall to concrete) also features the best looking pda display ive ever seen, and has the trademark sliding keyboard.

Unfortunately rumour has it that Sharp is wanting to pull out of the US PDA market entirely :( the SL-6000 is not marketed towards consumers at all. But you can still pick em up at amazon.

Nope not really, stopped listening to the radio about 5 years ago when i realized nearly all of it was shit.

Unfortunately there are still a few artists who's music I enjoy but who's politics (and their label's) I dont. Such as metallica (their older stuff).

  6. Re:Than go to iTunes. on The Perfect Online Music Store? · · Score: 1

After seeing this thread I decided to try out magnatunes and see how good their music/policies were. They seem to be everything I was looking for in a music store, they could stand to have a slightly bigger selection though.

And yes, they do support linux very nicely, since their store is completely web based, they offer: wav, flac, mp3, ogg, aac all without any drm restrictions. And you can even download in multiple formats if you like. Though i think I will download the flacs and encode them to ogg for portable use myself to help save them some bandwidth costs.

Also you get to choose what you pay for an album (anywhere from 4 - 20$ USD I think) and they are upfront about how much money the involved parties get (the artist gets half). They also let you listen to 128kbit mp3 streams of all of their albumns/tracks before buying.

    I'm sold.

Correct, someone will They are not free, they are infested with DRM, and therefore worthless to me. I do not own an ipod, nor do I run windows, a 'free song' that does not play on anything I own is not free.

  8. Re:This is what id like.. on The Perfect Online Music Store? · · Score: 3, Insightful

Thats why you would have the additional charge for more exotic codecs. 99.999% of people will be going after the mp3's if given the option. But a few people would rather grab oggs or flacs.

And, the topic did not say your ideal music store had to be feasable with current technology.

This is just what I think would be best format wise, but until the entire recording industry gets its head out of its ass and starts: distributing good music, at a decent price, with a decent chunk going to the artist. I won't be buying shit from them.

  9. This is what id like.. on The Perfect Online Music Store? · · Score: 4, Interesting

Personally I think it would be great if a music store kept the files in wav format and encoded them on the fly so you could choose any format you like (caching the popular options). Sure they would probably have to charge more, but I think it would be worth it.

Oh and no DRM please, I like my music without bullshit.

  10. This just sounds a bit excessive on 2.2 inch LCD Display featuring VGA Resolution · · Score: 4, Insightful

I just got one of the new zaurus Sl-6000 pda's that does 640x480 on a quite large (for a pda) screen and the pixels are already small enough to be indistinguisable from eachother. Putting that res in a screen that small seems pretty pointless.

Yes, I understand that it would suck, I depsise windows worms as much as the next guy (They clog up our logs, networks and phone lines). But I think that if directly after SP2 another code red esque worm hit big it would be a very lage wake-up call for the general public. Yes it would be a pain in the ass in the short term though Im not advocating the creation of such a worm, or trying to create one myself. Im just saying I wouldent shed any tears. Alternatively I would love for microsoft to actually patch XP to be a decent product worth the money they charge for it. Because that would solve half of my beefs with them. I just dont think thats gonna be possible with just a service pack. And with longhorn moving the way of DRM I dont think any windows based system will ever become a decent product. I know im gonna lose some karma on this post and the last one, but this is just how I feel, it may be wrong and slightly OT. Mod me down if you must.

  13. I hope it sucks horribly on Windows XP SP2 Still Rough Around the Edges · · Score: 1, Troll

I for one hope SP2 is the second to last nail in the coffin for microsoft. We cant count on our government to break up the convicted monopoly, im hoping they will run themselves into the ground.

I think the best case scenario for EVERYONE involved but microsoft is for SP2 to have even more severe security vulnerabilities and instabilities than the current incarnation.

I generally can't stand script kiddies, and crackers, but I for one hope groups already have prototype exploits for SP2 waiting for release. Nobody should trust a windows system for anything remotely important, and I hope SOMETHING will open the non-slashdot communitys's eyes.
