The difference is, you can choose not to install the additional apps if you dont want to, I think it would be much better to make all the nonessential parts of an OS optional anyway. I personally, am not against the inclusion of IE with windows, but i think it should definately be an optional component, espescially with all the security holes, and vulnerabilities it contains.
You can get just as detailed in a linux distribution as you want, just as you can get as detailed in a windows distribution as you want, you can leave the defaults in linux, just as easy as you can in windows, and linux doesnt require the user to reboot an infinite number of times, and then a few more reboots just for drivers. btw, I have installed every version of MS windows since 3.1
To me, all the popular linux distributions have been easier to install than windows, espesciallly Mandrake, but unfortunately they tend to be harder to configure afterwards, due to the shear volume of options and utilities available. Linux's biggest strength for power users, is also its biggest weakspot for normal folks

Yes its much more than a 'decent os' its also a mediocre web browser, horrible email client, freaking huge media player, adware messaging client, crap card game suite, and collection of strange teletubbies photographs all rolled into one.

Yes, if your gonna run a bloated MS OS on your handheld, why not run the most bloated of them all.
Like I always say, if your gonna do something wrong, make sure to do it right.

That thing would make a very interesting PDA, looks like its running WinXP, wonder how hard it would be to put a decent os on it. And use it as a fold up PDA with thumb keyboard
'hot' or science fiction for general audiences sounds like an excelent idea. We can have new successes in the field of science fiction just as the music industry has had such great artists as Nsync and Backstreet Boys
People shouldent base what they buy on what everyone else buys anyway, wether it be music or books. The only purpose lists like this serve, is inform publishing companies of what types of books/music are selling well, and to make the artists feel good.
I never really got into doom, sure the graphics were pretty good at the time, but I always thought wolfenstein was the better game, dont really know why though, just had an air about it
Unfortunately most of the restrictive contracts the artists are forced to sign prohibit them from selling their content by other means other than the record company.
Yes, file sharing is an excelent way for little known band's to gain exposure, i had never heard of apocolyptica until i saw it on napster while searching for metallica 'Metallica On Cellos' sounded extremely interesting, so i downloaded it and have been hooked on apocolyptica ever since, and to have bought all 4 albumns.
btw, 'Apocolyptica - One' is freaking awesome
Now they even have faster than dial up connections at 40,000 feet on jets, and I STILL cant get any service faster than 36kbps in NC on the outskirts of nowhere.
Looks like my AP calculus grade will be driven even further into the ground next grading period than it was this time.
Thank god there is no Palm port yet, id *never* get any work done.
Thanks Nethack
On a side note, Pure water doesnt actually conduct electricity, ive seen a Television running in a glass case full of Purified water before, but after a while the water will start disolving the bits of circuitry and become conductive.
Maybe i should become a lawyer, This type of question was the first thing i asked myself when the whole napster thing came out.
Here are a few of the similaries i came up with....
Copiers - Can be used to copy content on mass scales, but arent outlawed
VCRs- Also can be used to copy stuff, and are for the most part used for 'techincally illegal' purposed, but also arent outlawed
Video Cameras - Possible to copy content, but again not outlawed
Still cameras - Not very conventient, but also a means of copying intelectual material
Tape Recorders - Also can be used to copy content, but again no regulations
Pen and paper - Very inconvenient but still possible to copy with, but of course, not outlawed
And some other examples....
You can traffic trugs on the highway, should they be outlawed as well?
Gloves can be used to assist in stealing things without being caught. Should they be outlawed?
Knives can kill someone almost as easily as guns can. Should they to be forbidden?
You can never outlaw everything capable of commiting crimes. And i dont see how the courts have ANY legal backing at all to shut down services such as Napster and Kazaa etc.... They dont force people to commit crimes, they dont assist people in commiting crimes, they make a service available that is very open and leave it up to the users to use it responsibaly. Maybe the RIAA should sue wal mart for displaying their music in a way that makes it *possible* to steal.

I have a Tandy 1800HD laptop (bit newer 286) that was passed on to me a short 3 years ago, in that short ammount of time I have spilled pepsi IN the floppy drive while the computer was in operation, it has survived a housefire, lent to my 6&10 year old cousins for a couple of months, had the battery terminals forcefully ripped out, and dropped more times than i can count, BUT IT STILL RUNS. Unfortunately i think it may be on its last leg, every now and then it is unable to boot with a "HDD Error" message, which can be fixed by (beleive it or not) hitting the back right corner as hard as possible with your fist, which somehow brings it back to life.

yes, then they charge you out your arse for all the additional software that normally comes included with a linux distro

Give me a cd player and a dual male audio connector and we'll see how well this 'Copy Protection' works.
If AOL didnt advertise enough, id sure hate to see who did.

Alot of banks seem to run OS/2 and even Lotus software. Too bad they wouldent have all that much need for software like this though.
Mod down, EXTREMELY disturbing picture, not Quake on PalmOS
