I can't speak to their management practices. But certainly the quality of their consumer-facing software has gone to shit. Search, Gmail, Maps - all of them worked better a few years ago than today.

President Trump SAYS he wants to improve the immigration and trade policies that have wrecked our economy. Now sure, maybe he is lying, or maybe he won't be able to get the changes through Congress, or maybe the changes will be ineffective. Sure.
But the alternative is the Democrat and Republican Establishment. Who SAY they want MORE OF THE SAME policies that have been an absolute disaster for American workers.
It's not a language problem - it's an economic problem. There's no money in being an open source developer. I suspect more than 50% of packages on NPM are de facto abandoned.
The old model for FOSS development went like this: write some Free Software that many people use. Build up you cred as a developer. Land sweet consulting gigs and collect big bucks.
But that model has failed. Companies (for the most part) don't care what software you wrote. All they care about is price. So now a developer can waste a bunch of time writing a cool, widely used package - but the high dollar consulting gigs just don't materialize.
Instead companies will hire cheap code monkeys to glue together open source components. And the dev who actually wrote the FOSS gets zero dollars for his efforts. So he stops working on it.
That's where we are now. The FOSS model has produced massive gains in productivity. But all that value has accrued to leeches. While the FOSS developers got nothing; and by raising the productivity of lower skilled devs, in fact helped drive down their own pay.
Unless we can figure out a viable economic model for Free-like-speech software, I see an implosion coming. As more and more projects are abandoned, the whole edifice built atop them becomes shaky and eventually collapses.
Get real. The question is trade agreements. Absolutely agreed, the world keeps changing. However I find that a poor justification for economically suicidal trade policy.
I'm very happy other countries are growing prosperous. However that doesn't mean it's a good idea for the American government to accept trade agreements that are detrimental to the great mass of American people.
Wrong. Not "is losing" - rather, "has already lost, badly".
Many parts of America are in a 40+ year economic depression. Entire industrial sectors have totally collapsed and disappeared. We LOST the trade war. In no small part because our rulers sold out their own countrymen for private gain.
America has NOTHING to fear from ANY trade war. There is literally no way it could make the American economy worse.
So we say to China, to India, to Europe - BRING IT! You have everything to lose and we have nothing to lose. We are sick of one-sided trade that hugely enriches your bourgeoisie while driving American workers to destitution.
The trade war is on, and we're gonna win like you wouldn't believe.
