You my good man are dead on. I have a PIIx300 system, and it is more responsive then my athlon 1700. not faster -- more responsive. Back in 1998 when that was a freaking awesome system, remember when burning a CD was a fidgety process and even having your screen saver come on would ruin your cd? Wiht this dual system you could burn a CD and play QuakeII At the same time, it was really great:)
Holy shit thats a comprehensive article, you weren't kidding. I'm tempted to buy one of the new koolance cases and try out your advice. Maybe if the new ones are designed to contain the water during the inevitable failure. I had the original koolance case (PC2-MID) and the problem with it, well there were lots of problems, but the biggest one was there was no way to service the system without completely tearing down the computer.
I used distilled water+the koolance brand anti-freeze, and I'm pretty sure I had biological growth still as opposed to mineral deposits because it was a pale white sludge that was slippery to the tough and vaguely resembeled phglem.
I had my Koolance system fail twice, the first time soaked the entire mb, took a week to clean up and killed a stick of ram... the second time it didn't spill but nearly fried the computer because even with antifeeze the pumps seized with some kind of growth...
Note, both times it took over a year for the system to fail. It is my belief that on a long enough time line, all water cooling systems will fail. How long have you been using yours for?

Hannity and Colmes is a *JOKE*. They have a strong overriding conservative, and a timid, meek, vacuous "liberal" who doesnm't challenge any of the outrageous bullshit Hannity says. Read the chapter on them in this book if you'd like some terrible details, and I mean terrible.

Don't blame bloggers, blame lazy journalists. The right wing media has been taking advantadge of lazy journalists for years. For those of you who don't know, the "right wing media" -- Rush Limbaugh, Fox News, 700 Club, Hanity & Colms, Ann Coulter etc -- What they do is come up with terribly biased or completely false stories supporting the conservative agenda (status quo) and of course everybody dismisses the stories because the source is biased media! But lazy copy writers for legit news orgs pick up the stories, don't research them, and run with them! Then they *BECOME* "true".
I'm an audio nut and am sitting next to about 20 grand worth of studio gear --
Higher sample rates and larger bit depths sound GOOD. No suprise eh? They really make CDs sound like crap. Even most amateur albums are recorded at a higher resolution then CD's and resampled.
However, as usual there's much more to the story. You *DON'T* need 5.1 or 8 channel audio cds, thats stupid. Your brain can process 2 channels of audio, thats why every modern recording format only has 2 channels. 5.1 is great for movies, but stupid for music. Its basically an attempt to sell really expensive stereos/amps.
And here's the conspiracy theory: As usual there is ALOT of money to be made off format changes. There will be licenscing fees, patents, royalties, and millions of new copies of the white album to sell so you can finally hear it the way it was meant to be (note: sarcasm). But whats really happening is -- the record labels want to reestablish control of the audio format, these formats will reset the arms race and send us digital audio enthusiasts on a 5 year quest to crack their format.
Sony has lost *EVERY* format battle they've started (Minidisc, beta, ATRAC, Memory Stick, and the upcoming Cell Processor), they will loose this battle to, so expect DVDA to overtake SACD. However, I am personally resigned to not buying any format until I can make an OGG or MP3 from it, and you should be to.
You're right but kind of wrong, everyone I know has made an album, I've played on a few and I'm working on my own. A few of them are even pretty good. The problem is, what to do with the album once you've made it? Its virtually impossible to get anyone to listen to it.
A set of CDs called "Symphonies of the Planets" which are recordings of magnetic flux in deep space as recorded by voyager probes. I had the fortune to pick up one of the cds on a whim at a Tower Records in about 1992. The one I have is *EXTREMELY* cool and my favorite thing to listen to if I am having trouble sleeping.
Having just spent a day trying to edit a Korg Wavestation SR from the front panel, your comment neatly extrapolates into an explanation for why there is no internationally successful Japanese software product outside of games.
Yes! I have the triton rack as well. Evil machine, but it sounds damn good:)
Complicated interfaces are a sure sign a German was inovled in the design process. Germans culturally have much higher expectations of their users. I have a Waldorf synthseizer (uQ for those interested) which has a CRAZY interface, it has a matrix of lights which have to be mainpulatd by knobs and buttons to edit paramaters of the synthesizer. Its crazy compared to a british synthesizer like the Supernova II which has neatly partitioned sections and buttons with well defined meanings.
Not true, mostly true, but not totally true. Two very good adventure games that have come out recently are The Longest Journey and Syberia. I haven't played either Syberia I or II (Syberia is even on the XBOX) all the way through, but the longest journey was great, it had problems, some cruddy writing in spots, but overall it was a very pleasuerable experience to turn the lights off and sit and just get lost in the game. It is interesting to note that the makers of The Longest Journey got a *GRANT* to make The Longest Journey II from the Norwegian Film Fund. I think thats really cool:)
Anyways, there are online adventure game magazines that cover new adventure games, but I seem to have lost my links to them (anyone out there know of any?). The thing is smaller studios are the only ones working in the adventure genre, and they aren't as sophisticated as Lucas Arts yet, but their time will come.
Seriously, the FPS craze started with Doom I (I know it wasn't the first, but it was the first HUGE FPS), and it pretty much ended other forms of gaming. Video game publishers are the same evil bastards as that we complain about at the RIAA or MPAA, and they don't like to take chances. Just look what they did to Sierra Online:-(
You my friend are wise beyond your years, and seem to have realized a little anoyance that any signal that can be added, can also be removed, and that in many cases you don't even need to know the form the signal takes.
Actually terrible movies are the *REASON* to pirate it. In southern california here movie tickets cost 9.50$, so to take your g/f to the movies costs 20$ and if you'd like some food, that will cost you 5- 10$ a person. FUCK THAT. For that money I'd better get to see a damn good movie. But of course they all SUCK. My father wanted to see Van Helsing, it was one of the worst pieces of trash I've ever seen in my life.
having to wait 2-3 seconds after double clicking a media file is not good enough
WMP 8 and 9 have an annoying habit of scanning EVERY file in a directory every time you open a video (I don't know why). So if WMP is slow for you, you should sort your porn into smaller directories.
I agree completly, and happen to use the rockbox rom, really great stuff. I think it also highlights the lethargy of the companies who make the hardware don't you? The archos GUI is a pain in the fucking ass and the rockbox is much better:)
The business terminology for this is "Functional Pricing".
It is an artifact of the need to standardize board layouts, processors, hardware and designs for mass production. Its also a direct tribute to the greed of companies who wouldn't offer their customers the best possible product possible.
Along those lines, I like mixing mint-chip ice cream and dr pepper. It makes this ugly brown sludge that tastes great.

That's the question nobody can answer. I have quite alot of experience with the author, Randall Hyde, and can tell you in no uncertain terms he beyond a brilliant programmer. He also suffers from some kind of pathology such as megalomania or manic depressive disorder.
Nobody can answer the question -- why do you need a language that has none of the advantadges of assembley, AND none of the advantadges of a higher level language?

Same reason as its going on in the US, hopeless corruption, selling now at the expense of later.

I use bsplayer. It's lightweight (compared to WMP anyways), and it does the only thing I need a freaking media player to do, play videos.
