  1. Asheron's Call 2 on MMORPG Economies Explored in Depth · · Score: 3, Interesting

I'm in on the AC2 beta test (it's a free, open download at fileplanet), and they've taken the player economy to the next level - there are NO NPCs involved. You either get items from monsters you kill, or from ones you craft. And crafting is open to everyone - it doesn't require you to use skill points that could otherwise be spent in combat skills. This could be very interesting; it's a much more hands-off economic structure as far as the developers go.

Hello, the production will proceed and we will update our website and customers once we have more news on the ship date. Thanks.

If this means that there will be plenty to go around, i do not know - but i hope so, seeing as i didn't get a pre-order in on time. I'm betting that major resalers ordered quite a few, though.

The companies have realized that they can sell many more games if they just focus on the "average joes" who buy a game because it looks cool. Games with great gameplay are few and far between, IMHO, and with an increased focus on graphics-this and lighting-that, the gameplay department of newer titles is sure to suffer.

Not that i dislike high-end graphics- they can REALLY add to a game- but they shouldn't be the main focus of game development. Unfortunately, until Joe Average wises up and decides not to buy a game based on just some screenshots on the back of the box, things own't get any better.

I think it's less about making tons of money from Rare's games than just having the games on their console. Example:

    1) Rare makes another Goldeneye.
    2) Rare's new game makes MS $5 million
    3) 10,000 people buy X-Boxes just to play this game. Conversely, these people DON'T buy PS2s and Gamecubes because those systems don't have this cool new game.
    4) MS increases user base.

All of you points on low-carb diets are correct. I myself follow one, and it has worked wonders (20lbs in a month and a half). While i didn't bother to RTFA (stupid NYTimes reg), i know people who have encountered problems on the diet - both during and after the super-low-carb part.

You need a card, finger print, and key-code to even get into the building (yes, the janitor's entrance is like this too). You need those to get into the elevator, and to go into any of the areas with actual machines. I was only allowed to see their huge terabyte server cluster through very dark tinted glass: nobody but the head IT people are allowed in there.

I guess that if someone decided to walk into the place with guns a blazing he could, but that's not exactly the most subtle way to steal credit card and bank account information.
