Most banks won't let you cash a check unless you have an ammount equal to the cashed check in your account. That way if it's a fraudulent check, the money is deducted from your account (or never added in the first place) and treated like a cash withdrawl. It doesn't provide any protection at all.
Not sure if this applies to certified checks though.
I code an e-book decryptor. I decrypt my e-books and read them on my ipod (or something). That isn't illegal. If i go out and sell that decryptor, or even give it away for free, i'm violating the law.
At least that's how i think it's supposed to be. Either way, you have a point, and it shows how vague the DMCA is.
I've found that most women have some inate ability to completely rock at fighting games. It's gotta be genetic. I've been at parties where a guy with 100 hours of street fighter under his belt loses to someone's girlfriend who has never played.
I got a Clie (the color one without the mp3 player, before they had the fancy flipping ones) last December, and still use it all the time throughout the day.
I have a killer homework application that makes it super easy for me to keep track of all my assignments, my address book has the phone numbers of all of my relatives and friends, i keep track of my checking account with it, and i write down general notes with it (i'm almost as fast with graffiti as i am with a pen and paper) constantly. Oh, and let's not forget that the games make for good entertainment during down times in class.
If for some reason i leave it at home before school, i feel naked the rest of the day. I don't know how i got along without it.:)
Uncapping is a little more complicated than just running an application and having it magically do everything for you.
First off, not all modems are vulnerable - i believe that only ones using the docsys setup from CISCO are.
If the modem is vulnerable, you need to retrieve its configuration file, decrypt, modify, encrypt, and then (here's the hardest part from a coding perspective) fake like you're the modem's tftp server it gets its config files from. This involves unplugging the modem from the coax, and cycling its power. Last i checked you can't do that with code.
They may be within the rights outlined in their TOS to ban you (if modding your box is even in there - anyone got a link?) but that doesn't change the fact that the decision is one that hurts legitimate modders - who pay for their X Box and games - and pirates all the same.
There's a big difference between saying "We won't help you if it breaks" and "You can no longer use what you paid for because we said so." MS is guilty of the latter.
Those seem like config modifications, no hardcore haxx0ring. I was all set to be impressed by either iD "officially" patching it (i know, stupid me) or at least some cool binary hacking to get us some extra features or fps boosts.
There are anti-anti-ship missle guns (meaning guns meant to kill anti-ship missles) that are in full use on today's warships. They automatically identify, track, and blow the shit out of incoming missles. They have to account for delay in the bullets getting to that missles - lasers are essentially instant hits. I'd wager we can do the same with lasers.
Yes, they would be a godsend, until an unsuspecting GI steps in front of the machine right as it locks onto and fires at an incoming RPG. Mmm, extra crispy...
I disagree. The new "features" that appeared in the XP GUI just add to the visual bloat, and don't look that great. This new version just flattens out the screen-hogging menus.
If you look at the screenshot of the pictures folder (at least the one in one of the mirrors posted), there's a GIANT logo at the top proclaiming the directory to be the "my pictures" folder. Sure you can turn it off, but it's still an annoyance. I'd take OS X over any MS GUI any day of the week.
Taken from HTGK, no word on it's validity, but still interesting:

Great point. There are tons of great games out there that never really recieve the attention they deserve. Deus Ex comes to mind. Yes, i know that it was PC Gamer's GOTY in 2000(?), but among the masses nobody has ever played it. It's a nearly perfect game, but takes a little more brain power than GTA3 (not that GTA3 is bad) and doesn't have that "taboo" aspect to it.
Myth 1 and 2 are two of the best strategy games ever, and most gamers have never heard of them, and the majority of those that have didn't like the gameplay.
It seems that to have a really successful game you either need to lace it with crack cocaine for nerds(Everquest is an example), or pander to the lowest common denominator. Sure there are exceptions, but i'm pretty sure that BMXXX and Bikini Karate Babes will outsell quality games that aren't so well known.
As far as RC cars go, the two "main" frequencies are 22 and 75 (i think, not positive though). Each of those frequencies is divided up into many sub frequencies, like 22.1, 22.3, 22.5 etc.
However, you're right about the interference - if two radios had the same frequency crystals in, many funny things were bound to happen.
Interesting. Too bad that the mega-monopolies created by the broadband providers here make US residents pay out the nose for anything above 1.5mbit down.
I think i'll learn japanese and move across the pacific just for the bandwidth.
Ok, so it was a brash generalization. But still: oxford is blocking it because they used it. Same effect. Heck, the students might be even more anti-RIAA because they associate the block with them.
I'd also say that this was a stacked audience. Let's see, you have a bunch of college students that use p2p on a regular basis, many of whom were spreading anti-RIAA propaganda (not that that is bad). And you have the head of the RIAA that is trying to keep them from doing the things they want... come on. The proposition has NO CHANCE when polling an audience like that. I'm actually surprised Rosen asked that question.

Wow, the Malda family is like 15 minutes from me. How special do i feel? Congrats Rob and Kathleen.
Think about it this way - how can we get computers, and everything they do, with just two "elements" - one and zero?
I've found that most women have some inate ability to completely rock at fighting games. It's gotta be genetic. I've been at parties where a guy with 100 hours of street fighter under his belt loses to someone's girlfriend who has never played.
Wow. And i thought MPCON (shameless plug), with 150+ people, was big.
Excellent point. CG should be used to enhance the story, it shouldn't be there just to make us go "pretty!"

the compiling the compiler problem and solution?

is that Fat Wallet is complying with the demands.

Since when? I see new ones going up every few months where i live. Have any links with info on this?

Yeah, you don't need to split points between crafting and fighting. You get better at crafting by... well, crafting.
