Yup... you can use the.m3u format. Basically, it streams the mp3s over http. It requires no special server or client. Most mp3 players can access the streams (iTunes on Mac, WinAmp on Windows). You can set up playlists too.
There's even a linux-compatible program, NetJuke, that creates custom playlists for streaming.
This seems ridiculous. I help my friends with programming all the time, never outright code sharing though. Another person can often see little errors that are causing bugs more easily than the coder. Helping my friends likes this has made me want to TA an intro-CS class next semester.
They are making bucket-loads of money with the iPod. And it's selling well enough that they introduced a a new, larger (as in capacity) model for $499 and kept the original model at the original price of $399.
Hurray for Lemepel-Ziz! The decompression is simply beautiful, especially compared to the hell that is compression. I stared at my decompress for well over six hours, and I never got it quite right working with a trie. When I switched to an array of Strings, it took five minutes. Like I said, beautiful. =)
Double-sided tape is good too. I also put them on the front of my loft/bed. Heh, I also have old floppies there. A couple had Mac OS 6.0.7 in Japanese. =)
Sure DVD-Video burning isn't real-time yet, but burning data DVDs from the Finder would be much, much faster. Apple quotes it as 2x. Not that fast, but faster than tape.

No, it probably wouldn't cost that much. But the keyboard and mouse need to be powered by something and plugging in your perpipherals every week to recharge them isn't the "Apple Way." Now, if it had wireless power....
The number of people familiar with GNOME and/or KDE is probably larger? I admit I don't have any numbers to back this up except for the fact that there are more machines out there running GNU/Linux rather than Macintosh, add to this that MacOS X was released not so long ago and I may just be right.
My favorite mac movie moment was office space. When the actor shuts down his computer (that has a Mac-like interface), it goes to a DOS prompt!
I hear ya... at CMU we don't even have CAT5 in the walls. Really quite depressing.
But it's funny... when our main gateway goes down, we can often only get to the web sites of other Interent2 schools.
"They have the Internet on computers now?"
I haven't played too much with m3u's over slow connections, but it does buffer before the stream is started.
It doesn't do chaning bitrates, since it's just streaming the mp3 information.

Office XP and WinXP are both $10 at CMU =) 'Course I don't use 'em, but if you do its not a bad deal.
You need 64k to cyber?
But does it sync with my Palm?

Spymac sucks... they're as bad as MacOS Rumors.
Think Secret and As the Apple Turns are the only reliable (heh) sources for good rumors.
MacMinute usually gets it right the day of the keynote.
Please stay with the DAM tour. Mmmm National Lampoon.
So is mine. =D
I also got titanium glasses to match my TiBook.
I'll never find my laptop with a hole in it, unlike my girlfriend. Her plastic Compaq just acquired a hole on the side of the lid.
But the XBox is a hardware product, one that took years of design and testing.

What's the point then?

You break them? I hang them from my ceiling.

Maybe LucasFilm ran jar on Jar-Jar?

ISP going under? Go back to college! Sure it might cost a few more dollars a month, but you also get more bandwidth. =D
that just opens the doors for future violations to online freedom
I think you just are scared of your pr0n getting taken away.
This has nothing to do with online freedom. They are trying to stop 12 year olds from looking at goatse.cx.
They've been having trouble with their server lately.

Actually, because of OS X, BSD now has triple the desktop market share of Linux.
