    While this is extremely cool, I still prefer to just wait till stuff comes out on DVD.

    I'm an avid watcher of:

    Stargate SG1
    Alias
    24
    Sopranos

    But I just wait for em on DVD. Plus, it's a lot tougher to swap shows with your buddies when they're on a non-removable device.

    My bro-in-law and I are always loaning eachother the above shows back and forth. He buys some of em, I buy the others..

    I've had my Verizon DSL now for about 2 months 1.5down 128k up and I've been very pleased. . no complaints from them regarding my use.

    I'm a HEAVY gamer and I dl quite a lot.

    has anyone who's had them longer comment?

    it's like the malloc (sp?) thing all over again. two airlines needing a piece of software to do the SAME THING. How many correct ways are there to do it?

    From an outsider's point of view, a stranger to word processing, one would draw EXTREME similarities to MS Word vs. a Corel alternative.

    Is it copyright infringement? They both allow you to do the same thing in almost exactly the same way. .

    seems crazy right?

    Aside from my day job as a sysadmin, I also do freelance admin for 5 small-businesses that are large enuf to have their own in-house email servers. Not that's it's impossible, but it makes it "harder" to automate it. .especially when they're running different distros and configuration. -rich

    I do, see my own reply to my original msg. For the record, I've worked as a sysadmin of linux machines (three flavors) since 1994 for a fairly large web-hosting company I won't mention here. I think I know the difference as well.

    ya know. .originally I authored the post with just the word "daemon" and I thought. .gee. . .the morons out there won't get it. .

    so I added "web". .

    now, granted, a better choice would have been "internet". .

    but, the IDIOTS out there were probably able to figure out the word "daemon" with "web" in front of it, and the "smart people" knew what I meant

    but. . . instead of moving on, no less than 3 of em felt the need to "say I'm wrong"

    Is this the most exciting thing to do on slashdot. .prove others wrong even when you know quite well what they mean?

    I guess it's better than "flaming newsgroups".

    Ever wonder if microsoft has teams of people getting paid that do nothing but search for and anonymously submit bugs and proof of exploits in competing OS's. I mean hey. .in a way it's good this stuff gets discovered and patched. .but it's still bad press for linux when there is a new bug out every day. . Let's look at their code and start doing the same. . ohh wait. . we can't. . They don't let us see it. .We're just supposed to trust them it's all good. .

    Another thing to think about is this: Notice MS hasn't been soo forthcoming lately about linux as a competitor. I think maybe their "near silence" means they are actually getting worried.

    In adding this to office, they are really going to separate the market. I bet they figure, if they do this, whoever jumps on board will likely STAY on board due to the fact that switchig to open-source in the future after you've already got a bulk of documents done in this "new office" will be MUCH harder.

    I think they just drew a line in the sand. . and they figure they are KEEPING whoever doesn't cross now

    With this coming at the same time that linux seems to really be taking a foothold. .at least in the corporate desktop I think people fed up with MS BS may finally start to do something about it.
