i use the web interface extensively (had to add some fields to access the % skip for those pbs.m2t firewire recordings that just won't skip by seconds/minutes, but will skip a %...wtf?-)
i've never brought up 2 instances, but which 1 would the web interface control?
"they just weren't big enough to take on the whole rest of the world"
indeed;-) i've always thought the german & jap. population was lulled into thinking they could take on the u.s.: maps of each country filled entire textbook pages, & they never noticed the different scales;-)
just like that bit in hhgg where arthur's words are carried thru a freak wormhole in the space-time continuum: "due to a terrible miscalculation of scale, the entire battle fleet was accidentally swallowed by a small dog."
but we did embargo the sale of u.s. oil to japan in retaliation for their move into southern indochina, which left them no choice but to seize the oil fields of the dutch east indies. and the only obstacle to that was the u.s. fleet @ pearl, making ww2 the 1st oil war.
so now _we're_ in the same oil-supply position as japan was, which is why we've been in the middle east since ww2, desert storm being the 2nd oil war...
i worked on fortranIV code that had been migrated from fortranII that had been migrated from whatever language was used on an ibm drum-memory machine;-) there were variables named for drum memory locations, 4col...i wasn't about to change those;-)
and those codes were written by the resident gas properties genius, who was still on the job;-) it was then i realized that the clarity of code is inversely proportional to the brilliance of the coder;-)
while eyetv has issues (most annoying is watching the head of a currently-recording show: @ the end of the recording, your playback gets terminated)-: it works almost as well as tivo;-)
i also use vDVHS, from apple's f/w sdk, to rec/pb on a samsung hd tuner...the ffwd button jumps 30s:-) (or used to: recent recordings don't properly populate the neccessary.tsnavi sidecar files)-:
they abrogate the 1st & 2nd amendments: freedom of speech & the right to keep & bear servers... 'bout time the b-o-r is given a 21st century interpretation!-)
panasonic kx-tga9341t, 5 handsets + base for $100!-) shared phonebook/msgs/cid, plus talking cid:-) my only complaint is the tcid is often hard to understand (it speaks the name, not the number, can't be switched)-: and u can't screen the incoming msgs on a handset, only on the base.
my wife's b-i-l made the jump from mainframe wrangler (JCL, MVS, CICS) to management years ago. while he's happy overseeing a $10e6 budget, he still misses coding.
there's a similar trajectory in the building trades: a young guy starts out as a carpenter, then starts his own contracting business, working with a few others. if he doesn't go corporate (he's the exec, finding the jobs, then hiring foremen to run multiple crews, etc) he ends up >50yrs old still swinging a hammer, aching in every bone, 1 accident away from bankruptcy:-(
i just got laid off after 25yrs of successfully avoiding the peter principle;-) i always was assigned to interesting projects, but @ 60 i don't have the nrg of a kid to make 24/7 release deathmarches:-P
osama does have some valid criticisms of our popular culture:-{ a society that eroticizes the lack of a secondary sexual characteristic should not be surprised at an increase in pedophilia...
and it was clear to me in the bald mountain sequence in fantasia: the demon dips his hand into the volano's molten lava and scoops out shimmering female forms, which then dissolve into writhing grotesques:-(

iirc, the python guys have found a way around osx's single-instance restriction...

i thought it was perfectly clear: _things_ == devices, which fabric is not...
i read this as a request for info, but obviously the modders see it as an offensive declarative:-(
ltfu...
monsters of the id, running amok:-( but i sympathize w/ giorgio...easylist is censorship by default.
i'll have to fire up the ti99 to find the coords, but doing a CLUT sweep made the area look 3d, like roots descending into the earth;-)
i consider owning a compiler a right comparable to that guaranteed by the 2nd amendment;-)

there was concern over & opposition to radios when they were 1st put into cars in the '30s...
and u r ignoring the costs of retraining when m$ changes word's menus, 4 example...never underestimate the mindlessness of micro$erfs;-)
i'm sticking w/10.4 because i'm supporting some g3s (clamshells 4evah;-) & don't want to deal w/2 osXes (i already have 2: fedora & osX)
but more & more apps i'd like to use require leopard...gonna eventually have 2 bite the bullet:-}
but not mac users, then i want a fucking discount on my fios, since i'm not getting the all the services...

so now i'm ready 2 retire:-)
when we finally figure it all out, it will completely change...and some maintain it already has...
