He should have simply posted that these packages could be exploited and not posted the actual exploit. If the company ever tried to sue him, then he could publish the exploit.
I think the act of publishing the exploit would certainly be his undoing in this case.
Microsoft was build on the idea of cheap hardware. IBM's blunder was in assuming software would be virtually free.
However, IBM's blunder is becoming more a fact today as software becomes less and less expensive. Bill G is probably just feeling the effects of this. Also, we know he knows this because MS has tried, not very successfully, to enter the hardware area many times. Lately IBM has entered the software area without much problem. The pendulum is swinging back on microsoft.
IANAL but, its the federal government which you can not sue without permission. Its not quite easy, but the government does quite often extend this permission.
When is the last time you heard of an inmate suing for false imprisonment and getting a dime?

I ushered a wedding this weekend. People could sit wherever they wanted. So i started by offering people to sit anywhere, but they just looked like a deer in the headlights. Finally I just started telling them to "follow me" and to "sit there." They were much happier.
Most people are not dumb, they just don't want to be bothered. I happen to be one of them.
Those who do wan't to be bothered will speak up anyway.
Its like playing poker with no limit. Existing cable companies have already paid for their infrastructure so they can reduce rates to 0 margin. New companies would have to charge something to recoup infrastructure costs.
So the new companies would instantly force cable rates just low enough to kill off the new companies.
On the contraty. PCs seem to be dead set on doing things which consoles will always do better. Such as pretty graphics.
PC was always a casual gaming platform. One games simply because he already has the hardware there in the PC. But buying a $400 graphics card can not be considered casual. This gaming 'requirement' is going to put a significant damper on 3d gaming on PCs if consoles can grab multiplayer gaming correctly.
Much easier to carry an X-box to a LAN party than a PC.
Non-3d intensive games will still flourish on the PC.
I was just thinking last year how stupid these insurance companies were for always sending cancellation notice as opposed to a bill. (I live in Michigan.) So when I actually get a cancellation notice I don't know if its simply a bill, or an actual cancellation notice.
I have never received a bill from an insurance company, only cancellation notices, and I've been with at least 5 different ones. What more info is needed? we know they do this.
For those who didnt RTFA, Ropp was trying to get the list of people who they pulled this fast one on, from the companies password protected (DMCA anyone?) database.
More power to you Ropp. If the government mandates one must buy something, that thing should be heavily regulated by the government. racket.
Yea, I should have mentions that it was RedHat Linux 8 and 9 that was such a headache with multimedia. Im used to windows where I just run an exe and everything works. On linux I had to build the darn thing because no RPMs really existed, or were very hard to find.
Japan is a perfect example. They tend to keep a job for life in Japan. Here any job a CEO gets is just a stepping stone to becoming the president of the United States of America. So they sell out the company for quick profits to make their resume look good. let the company die on the next CEO..
I don't think the RIAA remotly scanning all the contents of people's harddrives (if they are, I want to know what horrible OS vulnerability is allowing THAT), just the materials they are making available for download.
Uhh yea! You didn't know? There is an organization out of either California or Washington that does this dirty work for the RIAA. So probably the RIAA claims ignorance on how the info is obtained, but certainly this organization is getting it one way or another. Not saying the info is legit, only that the organization has stated their business in the past.
Personally I'd like to know when the RIAA became capable of issuing subpoenas. I thought those were only issued by courts.
Passport is probably more secure that ssl. Its an excellent technology for Microsoft to use for all of its various services.
hotmail MSDN MSGaming Zone etc.
For an intra-corporate login system its excellent. But to be used across multiple websites, it just puts all your proverbial security eggs in one basket.
I think the best solution is simply the browsers remembering passwords on websites. If they were to make that pwd list exportable, that would really be great!
There was nothing more frustrating over the last year than trying to get either Xine or MPlayer working on my Linux box. That was an utter headache.
Linux has many well put together packages, Multimedia is not one of them.
Ultimately I gave up on those players and just play movies on my windows box with Media Player, Quicktime, and a host of installed codecs. I suppose the college kids need a few more years to work with MM on Linux before it matures.

Uhh, no. The Fed will be more than pleased to drive a stake through SCO. Most corporations like to flex their muscles. The Government is probably the worst about this.
It seems suicidal.
And stopping Microsoft's march is a net loss nationally. That does not mean its not the right thing to do.
I would simply do as every other animal on the face of this earth, and try again. This is definitely going too far, and I will not praise the doctor for carrying out such a grand experiment on this unfortunate family.
Its not difficult to me. Unless she could never have another child, its elementary.
Yes its sad to see your loved ones die, but life is not always better than death. Are they thinking of the child or themselves. I question.
I dont know about apple counding on ipod driving people to buy a computer. But this whole thing is much of an investment. Apple is more popular today than ever. Plus with the ipod there names will be known to all teenagers.
I think if anything this is an excellent time to invest in Apple.
Disclaimer: I have not reviewed their books. They could be cooking them, who knows.

RTFA, but that could be applied more to those who responded that you.
:-)
TFA implies it will always need assistance.
This engine works by taking in compressed air at supersonic speeds. It necessarily must be launched to supersonic speeds by some other means.
NASA's current design is, from TFA, launch craft from earth with Jet engines, mid-earth flight with scramjet, into outers-space with rockets.
So this is a more accurate test than one might imagine without ****

This is the point that people continue to miss.
Its Sun's implementation of Java that is not open, not Java itself. IBM has an implementation, and there are a host of others.
What is not open is what you must do in order to call your implementation "Java." I don't see a reason to open that.
C# is not open, but Mono may be.
Why? C# competes with C++, it does not directly compete with Java. At least not until it runs on Mac and Linux.

I can't believe this. Sun has resorted to this old pipe dream!?!
If Sun wants to know about 3d user interfaces, look in 3d games. They have 3d engines readily available but they still use 2d interfaces? KISS
Put the resources towards someting that can actually do the company some good. I don't know what that is, but it couldn't be this.
I wonder what Sun's shareholders are thinking right about now.

Utah? That is really surprising to learn with the mormons and all.

One major point of the hardware router is that its running a different operating system and is susceptible to different attacks.
