If its 3d science ACIS is the standard these days. If its 3d art.3ds is pretty common, even though its not really universally compatible with all presentation formats.
I recall old universall format was.IGES. WOnder what will make this one so special.
After spending an hour in the wikepedia I have concluded that this is all just hype. Quantum Cryptography is still only theoretically encrypted. It has not been proven yet because quantum mechanics is not fully understood yet.
Furthermore, this is really just a Quantum Key exchange. So tack on whatever protocol you wish to use once you have the key. Quantum encryption is something that would require quantum computing first.
Also please note, the quantum transmission is not even "secure." Its just that if anyone but you reads it, you are secure in the knowledge that you will know about it.
At least this is what I have understood. Still hype. Notwithstanding, as science this is probably an advancement. Its just not what its being marketed as.
The hasty capitulation of Gore didn't help. I believe he thought he was being a gentleman, but IMHO he was being a quitter. And then to not run 4 years later...Makes me question what kind of president he would have been anyway.
I think you make the best point on the board today.
The opening quote of the article poster is ignorant. Movie rendering has been done in hardware forever. He seems to be mixing up doing rendering in hardware with rendering on the fly in a video card.
What we have here is a slight mix of the two, but by no means anything new on the market. Its only letting you use your quadro if you already have one for movie rendering acceleration. I certainly would not buy one for this purpose. I imagine its still incredibly more profitable to use a CPU than GPU. Also, note that render farms computers rarely have video cards. The video part would be wasted.
But for in-game recording by home users and non-studio $$$ having artist, this will likely be a welcome addition. (Especially for those who can turn a GeForce into a Quadro) Though I have to wonder, doesen't the Quadro cost quite a bit of money!?
Still think its nice technology. I wonder if PCI-Express is allowing them to get this data off the GPU and back into the hands of the CPU?
Uncompressed is the best form for storage. 1 damaged bit in a compressed file will destroy much more data than 1 damaged bit in an uncompressed file. Of course, mp3 and ogg are not only compressed, they are lossy.
If there will be compression, let it be on the hardware storage level and not the file level.
No actually he is claiming the extra wattage is comming from the magnets.
I find it hard to believe unless the magnets are degrading in some fashion. Furthermore, since this is going in a circle, I also find it hard to believe this force does not work both for and against the rotation of the motor.
Open Source or otherwise 'free' developers tend to create and improve software for their own benefit. They are not intimidated by the fact that others may benefit as well.
People enjoy the fact that they can go from 10 developers to 100s by making their software open. The GPL assists in making the development benefit all parties.
Their is an old saying, do not reinvent the wheel. Closes source software does this continuously, except where they steal from open source and try to hide it...
Doesent matter how much investment Apple has in India. Matters how much investment America has in India. Other companies won't look kindly on India letting this stand. They will complain to the US. India will get the message. And since there is so much money involved I expect them to capitulate.
This whole point seemed fairly obvious to me. Can't believe they would move there...
anandtech.com has been doing this. At first I though it was highlighting words like Celeron that would link to back articles or definitions. Then I realized it was NOT doing this, and quickly kept my house from hovering over these words.
Its stupid cause the popup has nothing to do with the article being read. How can one expect to shift his mental zones for some totally unrelated content.
This just seems passe. How can a signal be seen on a television clearly, but not on a VCR. Right.
I suspect they exascerbated a flaw. I find it hard to believe a 2004 or even 2000 VCR by any manufacturer would contain this provision unless government mandated. Hell they wont even stick to the region coding on the DVD players.
Once again, as one who followed scox stock for a long time, the SCO CFO is correct, and Eben Moglen is wrong.
This stock *never* had a reason to be high. So its lowness is clearly a function of its manipulators, err investors, laying low. Not a function of sudden wisdom.
I have never met anyone investing in SCOX that did not understand exactly what the nature of SCOX was. Have you?
What I have been saying ever since SCOX burned a hole in my pocket is that SCO is a very bad software company but a very good marketing company. Ask yourself what the major supporters of SCO (Microsoft, Sun) receive in return. It ain't software.
Its not like AT&T because they are not asking for themselves to be regulated. This is more like enron.
Once such a regulating body is establish, what will they do? They will be completely ignorant of the thing they need to regulate. Thus, they will turn to the industry for advice on what to do. These companies will be the ones with the inside ear, and can influence or even write the policies that get created.
The immorality is not in hiring the foreign worker, its in paying that worker an immoral wage.
AlI still don't believe they *had* to hire Indian workers or go broke. If you are at the point where the only savings left is cutting engineers, then you have the most efficient company in the history of the world. And I have a hard time believing that management which could design such efficient processes can only think of cutting engineers as a cost save.
Typically what happens is the quality managers design the process, then move on to other companies. The new managers want to make some change, since they think that's their value...Easiest one to talk about is the India change. Its probably the hardest one to implement.
I'd like to see a study on how many companies go broke trying to outsource their technical work to india.
Mergers have a very destructive effect upon the corporate culture. They cause immediate infighting and backstabbing on the management level. If you ever though management was worthless, you will find out their true value when they all completely stop doing their jobs and start with full time politics.
gateway might be a stock to watch on the downside.
Only if the ten thousand Oracle people suck. in which case they dont deserve a job. Capitalism is based on the idea that money does it better. No time to start waffling now.

At my last job I set next to the coffee pot. A pair of guys would come by every 15 minutes or so and get a cup of coffee. One day I said I would 'hang' with em. Every time they poured a cup, I poured a cup.
4 cups later I was shaking like a crack fiend. They were still going strong.
I suppose its all relative, the human body can adapt to many conditions.
My sister received a bong at the hospital last weekend. An asthma bong. Its a normal inhaler, but with a BONG attached to it because it, "delivers more medecine."

No, its when they start laying off the rest of the department, and expect you to work double time to make up the slack, that it gets messy.

There was a story on slashdot a while back about how many letters you need to see before you make your decision on what a word is.

If the laws stay as they are today, that is possible. But laws have a tendency to move towards support of the property holders.
I would have expected an EU fine of x Euros per day until compliance is achieved. You simply can not put years of work into a one time payment.
You forgot one, "Not guaranteed to work." Either that, or the government mandates they can not be sued for a failure to censor.
Its not like AT&T because they are not asking for themselves to be regulated. This is more like enron.

Its elementary.
The irony is it will make the strong, stronger, and the weak weaker. In other areas of society we shunn this, or at least claim to.
OSVBD? Was that preemptive? Its not going to work.
"OSVD is the acronym, don't try to play it off. Would have been an excellent story to run yesterday.

Probably this will be written in Russia soon with the rest of the B shelf software.
5.1 was the best version ever, by concesus.
This goes to show that programmers are more valuable than the programs they produce. And that the "India pipe dream" is ignorant.

Great, but will it work on my wife? Can I make her easy to persuade, and yet hard to persuade both at the same time :-/
