I had a very simular problem with GTE and was buying directly from the telco(and telco procedures ARG!!). I had a 1 year contract with them and was able to drop it becuase of their self addmitted failure to provide services. With 8 months of service i must have had at least 30 days down time. I live in Dallas where there is lots of competition for my money and they didnt seem to care. The employees at the company were in complete agreement that buying network services from a telco was an all together bad idea.
I now have a cable modem at home and havent had any down time. No contract and its beutiful. Take my advice stick with an ISP when you want anything over a wire. Telcos dont know how to be anything but a blood sucking inefficient monopoly.
Not to rant but, I think the sooner Ma Bell dies the better off we will all be. Telcos are the picture of a inefficient buisness model.
method by which you can get your patch's. (ie dont have to have a serial code to access there ftp server, just need a bug that needs fixed and your in).
The fore thought that goes into the lib's and apps that dont turn out 6 months latter to be bug ridden and poorly implimented.
If sawmill is the new default desktop then there is no reason other than politics not to include E 16. Mandrake, Storm2k, Slackware and a few others dont seem to be having any trouble with it. Raster left and they are being childish about it. When every other major disto is using the current version of E the only conclusion i could make is that it is political, and a pain in my ass because i like to use E16 and RH.
did raster piss you off that bad ?

that sounds like a really lame excuse for not includeing a current version of E!!, I have been using E for a long time and 16.x compiles and runs in my opinion better than 15.x. This seems purely political. I cant completely appreciate that you can include beta QT but not current E.
Weather or not i can buy a video card that has an open source driver is a major contributing factor to weather or not i buy it. Maybe it should be for all of us. Then and only then would companies actually begin to feel the pressure of the penguins.
my vodoo3 works great for Quake3 in linux, is directly supported right now by Xfree86 4.0 DRI and GLX. Everything i need.
You have to admit that Linux is still the impetus for all of this change... Sure my SPARCstation desktop will look much prettier when KDE2 is out but my Linux workstation is getting closer to being as stable as a SPARC running Solaris and 10x more functional (in ways).
I have a Voodo3 and i have the source sitting on my drive for 4.0, as a matter of fact if you check the DRI support 3dfx is one of the only ones because they are open sourced already.
I am sure that nVidia will follow, SGI owns them and SGI is giveing the farm away to linux in source form. why would the nVidia be any different. they gave half of the gl subsystem to xfree.org. them holding out on nVidia makes absolutly no sence.
I agree i would love this in PCI, this kicks ass even though it is ISA. But the big question where can i buy one ?
BTW no unix workstation that has a console port has been networkable. you dont want it to be. Networking introduces alot of security issues that the colsole manufacturer doesnt need to deel with.
Anyone know of a motherboard anywhere that supports two athlons, that was sposed to be a big technology benifit when they were introduces over pentium 3.
In Tyler we TRUST !!
I love Mandrake. cant seem to find a ftp server.
Anyone find a ISO mirror?
too bad PACbell is in california, i love the technology behind DSL.

If you have WinZip on your computer you do not need to double click the exe to open it. You can right click in windows and extract it!
I didn't double click any license agreement does this mean I am free to go ahead with my specifications?
mandrake made a break from redhat at 6.0, mandrake does not equal redhat any more.

french for magic hat.
Mandrake is more stable than redhat, and more feature rich.
Mandrake is more open than SUSE or TurboLinux (IE evaluation CD, thought it was GPL)
Mandrake is first to the market with many features and in my eyes seems the most stable at the early implimentation.
I am not going to rant but i have always liked redat but i love mandrake.

SGI has an interest in the GForce line doing well because it came from their framebuffer technologies.
didnt SGI take over nVidia about a year ago?? After some sort of lawsuit.
If this really took place like i believe it did, then SGI is as seperate from nVidia is as AOL is from netscape.
The one thing that really ring though to me is that M$ has a seriously skewed point of view thoughout.
funny there isnt the demand for FreeBSD that there is for RH.

here at AMD huh ?
How about here at intel we cant fight with technology so we will try FUD, and lawyers.

how do i view this in linux ?
Rember Burn GIF's Day anyone
