Heh, y'know, I had this discussion on another forum a while back, and I got the same reply.

Maybe I expect too much, but, what I read, the story/mood/etc that is created in my head never even comes close to what I see on film.

The movies are all so...glitzy, flashy...dumb. I never interpreted the stories that way.

If I was 15-25 seeing the movies for the first time I might think otherwise, but I dunno. Too many years of movie-making in my head, I know what I want to see, I just don't.

"...how many will be as good as Spiderman or X-Men..."

For real? X-Men? Spider Man? I heartily disagree. Those movies sucked...bad. Hardly the charcters, stories or imagery I kne(o)w and love(d).

As I have said about a lot of Sci-Fi, I cannot think of one good comic to movie translation, not one. And anyone in the know didn't even think for a second that Daredevil would be any good, I mean, one word..."Affleck". What a shame too, Miller's DD stories are some of the best 'comics' ever saw.

All the above mentioned have had great stories, >I am talking hey-day here Maybe I am just getting old, but I would rather not see any of this crap, than see these sorry ass flicks ruin what I, and others, know.

And they differ from MS how?

They seem to be buying all the smaller studios and then either cancelling or crippling the games in development. Did they or did they not just buy the company working on the RTCW expansion and cancel it among others?

    Support...please.

    This collaboration will either:

    A) Suck

    B) Go nowhere

    C) Backfire

Yea yea, they 'own' sports titles and have made a few decent driving games, but they also churn out a lot of buggy crap. BF1942 is not all that, C&C Gen is shallow as all hell. Etc etc.

    We'll see.

    Seems funny...

While it is nice that Wal-Mart is apparently embracing Open Source OS's and offering a nice alternative to Windows there is irony here.

Wal-Mart is famous for the "Big Box" approach. Where they build...small business loses out. This is not something I read, I have seen it in action in my area.

The pay is extremely low at Wal-Mart. Health benefits are expensive to all but a very few in key management positions. Sexual discrimination is common place. They are notoriously anti-union going as far as outlining how to *squash* unionizing in their managers manuals.

Wal-Mart selling alternative OS might be a "win" for Linux, but do not let that overshadow the fact that Wal Mart is big business and their number one concern is the bottom line. They are not doing this out of any consciousness or concern for the Open Source community or Linux.

The last time I grabbed the satellite, 'prolly in April or May '02, it was bundled with spyware, there was notification. A few times in '01 I grabbed versions and they were bundled with spyware which I do not recall being notified about. Only the first few versions that I RECALL did not have any bundle. I think I grabbed first one in '00? Mebbe late-mid '99?

I can't count how many times I said, when Napster and clones gained in popularity, that it would be the end of the *fun* (read: piracy) for everyone.

When Napster started to tank, I noticed an influx of clueless, off topic, shite flooding idiots on usenet. And the media attention, my god the media attention. I dunno, mebbe coincidence, but I just imagined the droves of clueless knuckleheads high on that "free stuff" vibe flocking to the newgroups looking to continue their plunder and impress their friends. I dunno, but the ng's look a lot different than they did a short year or two ago. Nothing like they did in 90's.

And *like* wow, all those "Napster" is dead/dying/gone/back stories...who really cares? Did anyone think even for a second that the subscription model would work? C'mon...

    "Sean, grab a seat"
