> If I'm downloading copies of song which I already own on CD, then I'm not infringing, am I?
That depends on your agreement with the copyright holder. Read the agreement and see if it lets you make more copies than the one you bought on the CD. (Fair use includes copying the CD, but doesn't include copying from other media that you don't own.)
Oh, you don't have an agreement with the copyright holder?
Basically, the shape of the universe determines what happens to "parallel" lines as they stretch across huge distances.
The universe is not infinitely large by definition. General relativity describes how the size and age of the universe are related and quite possibly finite. This relates to the "big bang" and the question of whether it will be followed by a "big crunch."
Inside and outside are terms that only have meaning when you divide the universe into parts. When talking about the universe, as you point out, there is no sense in speaking of that which is "outside."
I have hemophilia, and I am not reproducing. Still, people around me seem to feel that I'm contributing substantially through my career and in my community.
When I was young, I'm sure everyone thought I'd die young from such a terrible disease. Now I have a normal lifespan and a relatively normal lifespan.
I have to say that issues around what the "right" thing to do are very complex, and distorted by health care financing, organ shortages, religious values, etc.
I recognize that I survive based on the generosity and altruism of blood donors. On the other hand, the medicine that makes my blood clot normally comes from paid plasma donors, some of whom donate in spite of having HIV, and the manufacturer accepting these donations accepts this.
You also have to consider that the picture is always different when looked at from an individual standpoint, in contrast to looking at it from public policy. It's been said that the cure for hemophilia is to let the bleeders die before they breed more bleeders. I have to say that this logic would have been an injustice to me, since I'm not reproducing (yes, I'm sure about that).

> How do you all cope with the stress and responsability that seems to come hand-in-hand with an IT career?
By being over 40.
> Not necessarily. Many companies wait to sue until the company being sued generates a certain amount of revenue.
So how does that economic strategy overcome the legal doctrine of Laches?
It also explains why drummers keep creeping up the tempo.
There are no 100-year-old punch cards.
(At least, not the "IBM" Hollerith cards. Jaquard's loom is another matter.)
So, I'd say the jury is still out on the cards.
And have you ever smelled a rancid, 10-year-old punched tape? Yuck.

I've got to get that distro!

Is this the same airport that was trying to screen the masses with face recognition technology?
Florida is a haven for pseudo-tech marketeers. Face recognition, e-voting, rfid-luggage.
It's good to have a dumping ground, so we don't have to keep the techno-trash lying around the rest of the continent.

Now, write a book.
Somebody tell the USPO that they've issued patents on perpetual motion machines.
That ought to get them spinning in circles.
ENLARGE YOUR SHORT TERM MEMORY
If you're reading this, you know that men with small short term memory don't get ahead....

Cynic.
Yeah, so you can flip through a virtual library of CD's the same as you flip through a real one. Or stick notes on the back of a document.
Sounds like it enables all of the bad habits I have that lead to a CD library where I can't find my favorite CD's.
And the sticky notes that only turn up when it's too late to do what they were suppoed to remind me to do.
Yeah, and to improve our standard of living, we should move to France and clean people's houses.

So the Java interpreter is written in Java? Sweet. };-)
If the Bush administration had been tougher on Microsoft, maybe they would have solved these problems before Europe stomped on them.
When Microsoft is forced to behave everywhere _except_ the United States, then they will end up having to behave in the USA as well.
Getting an easy sentence from the US Anti-Trust conviction may not have been as favorable as it looked originally.
> This is like one of those electronic probation tether things for crooks
Not just for crooks.
Imagine having to wear one of these things as a condition of probation.
Or as a condition of employment.
Imagine having to wear it 24x7 to prove that you're not doing anything "bad," as in "bad in the eyes of someone who holds power over you."
Imagine being accused of being "bad" because you _won't_ wear such a device 24x7.
And you were worried about having to pee in a cup.
I was hoping to find a better explanation of the "window" button than "reserved for future use."
For example, a lucid reason why a remote control requires a button that has no function.
Even a marketing-related reason would be more satisfying than "coming soon: something we can't tell you about now."
> It will probably be a crime to disable the device.
Give me a break. The law probably will not pass.
This is a political ploy in an election year, so that politicians can get a worthless, but good-looking vote on their record.

Sorry, most people don't know the difference between a million and a billion. Showing them the two numerals 1,000,000 and 1,000,000,000 doesn't help.
BTW, they don't know the difference between a number and a numeral, either.
"Socialization is f***ing hard. Let's go f***ing shopping."
Well, since they're only using one camera, and switching the filters, that means we can never know the true color of Martians.
