Jennie used the camera as a medium of self expression and speech, a means and method of recording her life for all to see on the internet. Jenniecam really was purely a social experiment.
Oh crap, your right the flash animation is what they were talking about. I didn't read the article carefully , well it was 4 in the morning and the end of a really long day and I had a few too many, kids don't drink and post. Sorry if I got everybody excited about a live version. I can't believe this flash animation is all we're going to get. Why won't the BBC properly revive Dr Who? is it so hard? As for the flash animation itself...I actually find the low quality of the flash is somewhat analagous to the low budget of the earlier episodes so it brings back memories.
I think the idea behind the flash version is merely to serve as a promotional piece to push the live version, similar to the flash based Matrix episodes. After all the BBC has spent a LOT of money on this they just want to attract an internet buzz that's all.
Whats the matter? Didn't you think that was funny? Well why not? I mean you've been modding up BSD is dead jokes for years so you must think old moldy jokes are funny right? Grow the F up. It's high time this BSD is dead crap stopped. FreeBSD is living proof time only ages fine code like fine wine. BSD is dead jokes is nothing more than cheap ass trolling, don't reward it.
So, instead of getting 8% of $0.00, the artist gets 0% of $0.00
It's your logic that's faulty. The very definition of the concept of "copyright" states that whoever holds the right to copy the product in question, has the EXCLUSIVE right to copy, if YOU don't hold the copyright on the product yet you make a copy of it anyway you are in violation of the copyright act. The very act of copying a song into an mp3 or ogg vorbis format and then sharing it on a p2p network is a furtherance of the violation of copyright. You may never intend to actually buy the product but that doesn't give you the right to violate copyright. What if I decided I didn't like the GPL, would I then have the right to violate the GPL? No I wouldn't, I should rightfully expect to get sued by the FSF. You simply can not break a law or a license or an agreement simply because you don't like it or the people or organizations that it supports. It's unethical.
The problem is that we are not dealing with tangible objects. Stealing a song in the form of an mp3 only harms an artist/label as much as the money a person would spend buying the song.
The definition of the word "tangible" is according to Merriam-Webster : 1. perceptible, especially by the sence of touch, palpable 2. substantially real : material 3. cabable of being appraised : syn appreciable, perceptable, sensible, discernable.
So according to the definition of the word tangible music is all of those things, I can appreciate it, discern it, percieve it, feel it, sense it and it's real, real to my sense of hearing and my mind.
Music and the resulting mp3's from it are very much a tangible thing.
First of all the screen of the Sony PCV-W10 is an LCD screen.you do NOT use windex to clean an LCD screen.Your supposed to use a soft cloth instead.
Secondly the keyboard only protects the lower half of the screen, not the top half. Meaning over time the top half of the screen will dull from the exposure to dust and air, while the lower half of the screen will remain clear.
In my opinion that's a serious design defect.
And Sony isn't exactly famous for it's level of after market product servicing.
When the keyboard is folded over, the unit looks like it was cobbled together out of spare sony vaio parts.particularly when viewed from the side.
Also, with the keyboard folded up like that, if you left the unit alone for a few days in disuse, wouldn't the top half of the screen get dusty leaving the lower half of the screen clean? That would really get annoying over time.
It's a really cool idea, very innovative I've never seen anything like it, and it has a little bit of Apple style "lust factor" attached to it and I'm sure Sony will sell a lot of them but I'd rather have a Sony Vaio laptop.Running Linux of course.
Maybe Matt can find work at the OpenBSD project? : )

A Sound Server For X

It sounds like ( pun intended ) that they have taken bandwidth into account. There are a number of references to bandwidth performance on the MAS site.
"MAS enables low-latency Internet conferencing and telephony. Automatic bandwidth measurements and MAS's dynamically-switchable CODECs insure that the conference quality scales from 56K modems to T1 lines. "
"MAS integrates with a compatible X11 server on your desktop. It processes graphic information locally, alleviating the need for network transmission of uncompressed graphical content. Graphic events are easily synchronized with audio events for professional-quality multimedia and accessibility-enabled applications. "
"MAS handles network-distributed media processing and intricate format configuration tasks. It continually measures system performance and adjusts its actions depending on the available system resources. The longer it runs, the better it knows your system."
It has happened on linux already...
Remember the lion worm?
http://news.com.com/2100-1001-254672.html
The lion worm seems to be a variant of the ramen worm that stuck Linux servers earlier, plus security experts believe that the same guy that wrote the Lion worm also wrote the slammer worm.A google search for "lion + slammer" reveals various reports that the creator of the lion worm had posted on message boards about the possibility of the slammer worm.
We finally have some piece and quiet around here from the last time someone posted a piece about engirsh. For a whole year it was nothing but all your base this, and make your time that.
Now it's going to be a whole year of "You should make fun" and "we are not oaks we are hobiks."
1. My Atari 2600 loads adventure in far less time than the flash version takes to download.
2. The Atari version won't suffer from the slashdot effect like this flash based version will two minutes from now.
Why Sun? because competition is a wonderful thing.

Sun To Sell Linux PCs

Stay relevant in the market place or fade away....Keep up with the current market trends or die, it's that simple.
This move may or may not do anything for Sun's fortunes, but it's sure to keep IBM/Redhat awake at nights. This is a race to see which company is the "offical" supplier of linux desktop/workstation pc's, and that means more choice for you, and more opportunities for Linux growth.
Jennie is NOT a cam girl!!!
Jennie used the camera as a medium of self expression and speech, a means and method of recording her life for all to see on the internet. Jenniecam really was purely a social experiment.
She will be greatly missed.
The most ultimate slashdotting in the whole world!
So by way of association does that also mean that Microsoft's acquisition of Great Plains Software marks the death of small business ???
looks like he's in dire need of a shave, I have a razor I could lend him.
Don't worry about that, I'm sure the RIAA have lobbyists standing by at the ready to amend that situation.

Oops. For some reason there a space between the last three letters in that link to the BBC story, be sure that "s tm" is ".stm" if you use it.
Shada has been filmed as an actual episode. And it will air soon ( but not soon enough for me )

Anybody got a quarter?
Yeah with figures from weasel accounting inc. I'm sure.
Of course they don't figure it might possible that the market may have peaked due to excessive pricing?
It wouldn't be the first time industry has killed the goose that laid the golden egg from overwork.
Mozilla?
Konqueror?
Dillo?
Opera?
I can't decide.
IE ? what's that? never heard of it.
