  1. This cannot be allowed to happen! on Concerning The Cancellation of Futurama · · Score: 1

Futurama is quite simply one of the most intelligent, witty, funny, and creative animated series in the history of TV. If Fox is so stupid as to cancel this gem, I will promptly boycot all Fox programming.

  2. Bandwidth isn't free you know! on Rogers Cable Plans Fees to Curb Bandwith Hogs · · Score: 1

It amazes me how many people are under the assumption that bandwidth is somehow free or even cheap -- it isn't!

Colocating your servers at a hosting facility, one expects to pay for bandwidth based on usage. Why should consumers be exempt from this?

  3. "Redefines market expectations"? on Palm OS 5.0 Preview · · Score: 0

Give me a break, AIM is crap. The only reason it's so popular is because of the marketing force from AOL.

I didn't know about Trillian until I saw this story but I am very pleased with it.. There are certain things about AIM that have driven me crazy (like the horror of dealing with screen names).

Ads never really bothered me, though... At least AIM has the decency to keep them small and no popups!

    Sci-Fi is coming true, yeah?

I don't see it changing anytime soon, either..

Terrorists want to kill us all. Planet Corporate wants to own all knowledge and charge us for it. Government wants to label everything that is not consistent with the propaganda being spouted on CNN as "Evil" and throw us all in jail.

Anyone have any paranoid predictions they'd like to share where this is all going?

No, kiddies, I don't think Linux will save you.

    bah!

Hmmm..perhaps you've missed the various articles on Microsoft's contracts with its OEM customers, the contracts that forbid installing multi-boot systems?

As a capitalist, I do not have a problem with this. Exclusives are nothing new in the funtastic world of licensing.

Or the way they meant consumers to have a 'jolting' experience if they wanted to select a different picture viewing software (...say, Kodak's...) over the MS-installed stuff?..

Nonsense. i've been using 3rd party graphics programs since 1995 with no problem, now even on XP. Photoshop, ACDSee .. these "assertions" sound like pure propaganda.

This fellow's attitude really turns my stomach, to be quite honest. Just another petty tyrant tryting to force his geeky world view onto everyone he possibly can.

I don't like that attitude. I find it very annoying and unprofessional. It's the kind of attitude you get from minimum wage pukes working at CompUSA and technical support dweebs.

At its core it was just an outlining program but this it did so well (wayyyy better than MS Word)!

sigh... MS really did take the life out of the software industry when they really came of age in the 90's..

  13. Re:DMA members aren't the real problem... on DMA to Control Spam by DMA Members · · Score: 1

This is why I believe that what we absolutely NEED (and this need will just continue to grow) is ENFORCED DIGITAL SIGNATURES of email!

Mail servers should eventually begin refusing any incoming mail that is not digitally signed using a certificate from a trusted authority.

This would force accountability on emails. It would keep spammers under control. It will also be a great weapon against the ever growing horde of email worms ala Melissa, Love Letter, et al.

Lets face it, folks -- the days of the completely free Internet are numbered. Either we need to do something to get things under control or the gubment certainly will.

I have been long of the opinion that a good weapon in the war against spam and email abuse would be requirements at some level that emails be digitally signed with a certificate coming from a trusted authority like Verisign.

I believe this is the only way we'll ever be able to get the control mechanisms into place that will start reeling in the ever increasing abuse of the Net... accountability.

Ultimately I would hope that most email servers will begin putting into place policies that reject unsigned mail...

    Anyone else agree with me?

Other than that this seems like a neat toy but has no other practical uses...

I wouldn't invest in this company anytime soon..
