Windows XP is pretty secure already after a decade of Security Updates. Money and laziness is bound to keep people on it years after MS stops supporting it.
about Australia is about another creepy government program to control the minds of it's citizens. Filtering out content that might corrupt old people? What the hell is going on down there? It's worse than the US during the Bush years...
I've never met one of these mythical windows fanboys. Can someone point out to me where they are? I mean the unpaid rabid fanboys like the ones apple (or linux) has. I use windows almost exclusively, not because i like it but because:
1. I am lazy 2. I make a living because i can make it work pretty well 3. I am lazy
I would make a longer list but.. eh, why bother? I just don't hear people ever saying how awesome windows is for anything (except games maybe). Windows jockeys just like using something that is standardized, supported by a large company and is easy to google answers for, and make a living at managing. Plus you can do almost everything without learning any messy command line stuff (although the stuff you do have to do with command line is just as cryptic if not moreso that any *nix flavor)
Windows fanboys are as rare as screwdriver fanboys, sure screwdrivers are useful but they are just a tool that works okay, why get excited about them? I've never understood the whole religious operating system wars.
Isn't it funny how 90% of Americans are "far left of center" according to Fox News Viewer? That crazy majority of rational people are just the "far far left"... I guess that could happen but for some reason I doubt it. Of course we'll all be sorry when the proof comes out that Iraq perpetrated 9-11 and that Obama is going to kill our grandmothers.
and I can tell you they are struggling to stay current with 1980's technology. Their tracking equipment looks like something out of a steam punk novel and doesn't really work worth a crap. The stuff they expect their field technician to work with would be send the average slashdotter into fits of uncontrollable laughter and/or tears. Here are some of my actual questions during training: "Are you joking? Is that really how you do it? What is the best method of duck tape application? Does every installation take 50 usb cables?" I just couldn't believe it. It's really that bad. Not to mention the fact that any one of their low level field technicians with any smarts could easily manipulate the television ratings for fun and profit.
It's not surprising they aren't going to track "them fancy computer thingies", since they haven't even figured out exactly what them thingies are used for.
They work great in Portland Oregon. I don't mind walking a little ways and I can move to another spot and keep my time. The only thing I don't like about them is that they don't take dollar bills, only coins and cards.
Yes. It does. Reverse tautology aside. The coded rules of the game are analogous to the rules of physics in real life. The social conventions are a layer on top of those rules created by the players. While I can't break the laws of physics I can certainly break the laws of man, and I'll pay the consequences if I do. If I determine that I can accept the consequences, (in this case being threatened by strangers on the internet)or I have enough money to hire good lawyers, then I am free to do so unless someone stops me.
I'm a huge fan of this administration but in this particular case I think the private sector could do a much better job protecting against threats than any Czar. Besides, I hate anyone who's title has a C followed by a Z in it, that's just not right. Drop the "c" or just say: "KaZaar!".
The problem with this approach is that it decreases the realism of the AI player. When you reduce the amount of computation, the AI will begin to make incredibly stupid mistakes -- mistakes that are so stupid, no human would ever make them.
The author has obviously never played chess with me.
Someone's money earns them the right to have fancy cars and mansions. For better or worse, it also lets them afford bail and expensive lawyers. Don't punish people for their success... or the success of their family (Hilton).
Except that bail isn't meant to be punishment, it's meant to be a deterrent from fleeing the court. $1000 might be enough to induce a high school dropout working at 7-11 to return to court, the same amount wouldn't work on Bill Gates. It's bail not a fine, you get it back unless you skip town.
Selfish prick eh? Believe me that cop will change his behavior much more quickly after a large lawsuit in which he is revealed to be an complete idiot than he would after arguing with and tazing a skinny nerd with a camera. I learned a long time ago that arguing with morons is pointless and painful. It's much better to call them out in a public forum where it can be publicly and systematically determined that they are wrong.
If you want to defend your rights by fighting with cops go ahead. See how far that gets you.
Aye, no argument from me. I am a gun toting liberal all the way. People in power need to remember that the citizenry is armed. I am little confused about the "restored" part of your comment tho. I can buy guns no problem where I live as long as I'm not insane or a felon. I haven't tried to buy a tazer tho..
I shouldn't have to get tased to stand up for my rights. Since cops are so taser happy these days I'd rather take the sneaky approach. There is no way I can physically stand up to guys with guns, batons, and tazers but most third graders can easily outsmart most cops. I'd rather take them on in a way where I can get what I want and then sue the crap out of them later. Better to let them think they have won and temporarily satisfy their macho self image only to prove to them how stupid they are later.
Now if we start hiring intelligent, trained police officers I might change my tune. But I don't see that happening anytime soon.
Of course I don't buy music from iTunes either. But I know people who do and they don't notice it either. I don't really care either way. I steal all of my media from bit torrent sites anyway and apple products are nifty so Imma keep buyin them. Whenever the powers that be come up with a new way to try to restrict bits some geek somewhere finds a way around it. The actions of corporations in this arena are meaningless.
Recently they announced that rainy areas of the country have a higher rate of autism than sunny areas. That is a correlation.
Now if it turns out that rain actually has nothing to do with causing autism and it turns out that it was caused by a certain kind of food consumed in rainy areas then it is not a causation. In that case the rain did not cause the autism. Hence no causation, but it retains the correlation.
Causation!=Correlation or in the more common form: Correlation!=Causation
Ask the Irish. They managed to figure out a way.
Fight the stupid laws not the stupid people paid to enforce them.

Oh noes! Can't run IE9!!!!1 What will I do?
Does anybody use any version of IE anymore?

The price went down didn't it? I'm just no longer paying for something I never used: 1 dvd rental a month.

Get used to living in the real world.

Only by caparison.

Nothing more to say really.

Your double negative doesn't not un-confuse me.

Aye, then I did misunderstand. That one is a bit more tricky.
